I can't recommend this game. It advertises as a teamwork heavy tactical FPS, but just ends up being a standard subpar shooter. Without the unique features this game has, picture Battlefield with less money spend on graphics, particle effects and sound.

The squad aspect ends up being a proximity voice chat, and the squad leader acting as a forward spawn. That's it. Oh and reduced suppression when you are close to the rest of your squad. The squad leader can also use a wonky, cumbersome order feature that will put a hard to spot marker on your map. There isn't even a "every member is an important piece", cause the squad slots are not tied to the classes at all.

Speaking of classes: There are quiet a bit of them, and in addition to the standard 'sniper, assault, machine gun' core, there are other ones with abilities like spotting traps. However, the game decided to implement the oh so popular "roles with team wide limits" model. So in practice you'll probably be stuck playing the very fun base grunt class. Later in the game you unlock a commander that can call off map support, and radioman, that carries a radio for the commander. If you make it that far.

The combat itself is pretty boring. You run up to the objective, squint your eyes to try to find the enemy, shoot. The damage walks a tipsy line between wanting to kill on hit and taking multiple hits to kill. You'll have to figure how different weapons shoot and damage yourself, cause ain't that documented nowhere. Unless you've got a sniper/battle rifle, or are very close, you are mostly shooting for suppression

I hope you like running to the objective from spawn, cause that will happen a lot. And since it's such a big part of the game, the designers have decided to punish you for running from the spawn by making your weapon shake significantly more after sprinting.

But wait, what about the unique Vietnamese setting? That must make it a bit interesting at least, right. Well, were you expecting thrilling guerrilla warfare? Hiding in the forest, using tunnels to sneak up on the enemy, planting traps? Tough luck then. This game ain't have that.

Tunnels? The Vietnamese squad leader can place a forward spawn that takes the appearance of a tunnel exit, and your squad can use it to spawn until the enemy finds and destroys it. Well, that sounds like you could get creative with it, right? You sure can, but I hope you like getting spawn camped, cause that's what will happen if you put it anywhere more ambitious than right behind your defense line.

Traps? You get some of that! One of that to be precise. You get one trap. Have fun!

Oh, but you know what part of the Vietnam War is definitely there? Instantly dying in a napalm strike with no warning and no counterplay.

First, let me say that I got this game not only because I was looking forward to a proper WW1 game and trench gameplay, but also because I LOVED the other game in the other game in the series, Tanhenberg, and I really recommend that one. Ok, let's get to the review proper:

Were you ever at a fair shooting range and thought: "This is fun, but it would be better if I was also being shot at, and every time I got hit, I had to put the gun down, run twenty yards back, do five push-ups, and run back"? Well then this game is for you!

Seriously, this game is like the Duck Hunt, but the ducks are also shooting at you. It's a constant cycle of running to the trench, poking your head out, hoping you'll see someone, and shooting them. Then you get shot. There is no counterplay to that. You can't really poke your head out better or worse. It's mostly about who shoots more people before they get shot down. The attack phase is a little more interesting, because you also get to run forward.

The game is an endless cycle of running forward to the enemy trench, then shooting from that trench at your enemy as they run towards you, then rinse and repeat as they take the same trench back.

Is this historically accurate? I'll tell you what, it got one thing about WW1 western front right: The feeling of futility and the absurdity of the entire affair. You run forward only to get killed by a random mortar shell. You crawl to the enemy trench and clear it out. Get some supplies (no not really, but wouldn't it be fun if that was part of the game?), then abandon it as the enemy launches a counter attack. I hope the few yards we've gained were worth the hundred lives we lost. You win nothing. The game ends in a draw.

Anyways, if you are looking for a good WW1 game, I really recommend Tannenberg. It's very clear the designers learned from Verdun, and made crucial changes when creating Tannenberg, and I'm not only talking about the map and objective design. They've also made changes to squads, roles, and weapons. The entire game is much cleaner and the gameplay is much more fun.

Graphics are awfull, like I don't say this often, but in a game with zero gameplay you'd think that if not the scenery, then at least the trains would look presentable, since that's the only reason anoyone plays this game.

I'm not gonna talk about the marketplace much, but, really why is the base game not free, if you're gonna charge the same amount for every track?

Here's a message to the devs: if you are implementing a feature, it would be nice to first implement the feature itself, and then start putting hints around directing people to a feature that doesn't exist
