-50g of Hexamine (compressed fuel tablets found in sporting goods stores)
-550mls of Concentrated nitric acid
-Distilled water

**Equipment:**
-500ml beaker
-Glass stirring rod
-Funnel and filter paper
-Ice bath container
-Centigrade
-Thermometer
-Blue litmus paper
**Procedure:**
1: Place beaker in ice bath container and carefully pour 550 mls of nitric acid into the beaker.
2: Grind 50g hexamine tablets into fine powder and when the nitric acid has cooled down to below 20 degrees centrigrade carefully add the hexamine powder. The temp will rise. Stir accordingly.
3: Drop the temperature below zero by adding salt or place in a new ice bath or by adding ammonium nitrate. Continue stirring for 20 minutes while keeping temperature below zero. [IMPORTANT]
