Just for some context, I have been playing battlefield since 2013 and own BF3, BF4, BF1 and BFV. This game isn't a battlefield game, I don't know what it is to be honest.

128 players was a massive mistake, it dampened down the destruction and fidelity of the maps due to the impact on performance. Not to mention that the map design is also flawed with little cover between flags and no overall flow of combat.

The specialist system is a far cry from the team play that we expect in battlefield games. The game has launched with fewer features than past titles e.g. only 22 weapons in the base game all-out warfare mode. Also, the lack of a scoreboard, server browser and persistent servers just further hinders the overall experience of a play session. Speaking of the weapons, I'm not a fan of the gunplay, it feels quite watered down and combined with the hit-reg issues, it is not enjoyable. The lore of the game doesn't fit with the gameplay, the world is supposed to be on the brink of disaster with natural disasters, but maps like Kaleidoscope have pristine clean streets and immaculate skyscrapers, and the end of round specialist voice lines are extremely out-of-touch with the setting of the lore.

Overall a very underwhelming and disappointing experience; portal might be the only saving grace of the game, but even still it is a 7/10 for that mode as I have more fun playing BF3 and BF1- the immersion I feel playing BF1 is miles ahead of the mundane atmosphere in BF2042. The fact that the game is already 34% discounted a month after release and is free to play for a limited time should tell you everything you need to know.
