I often ask myself what a short 4X would looks like. I love games like Civilization, but I never fully completed a single game, because it takes so many hours to reach the end. How to streamline the mechanics of a 4X so it could be completed in only a few hours? Ozymandias proposes few answers to this question.

A game of Ozymandias takes less than an hour, it simplified lot of mechanics from 4Xs to keep it in that small scope:
- The entire map fits on a single screen.
- Your tiles automatically and always produce resources, no need to build structures or assign workers.
- The tech tree is a table that fits on a single screen where you can pay to improve your production of various resources: No new mechanics or many effects hard to keep track of.
- Instead of building lot of units that fight each others to conquer territory, you have very few army units, and they exert territory pressure on the borders of your empire instead. If your "military power" is stronger than your neighbor and they fail to match it within two turns, your army will automatically conquer their neighboring tiles.
- Victories don't wait for a "total extermination" or "maxxed tech tree" that drags the game for so long. Instead there's a list of objectives that rewards 1-2 points to fullfill (Have 40+ population, Have conquered 3 enemy cities, have a territory XX tiles large...), and the first player to 6-7 immediately wins. It leave you enough leeway to have different ways to win, but the objectives a reasonable enough that once a player has built enough advantage the game will quickly ends without dragging.

It's a really interesting take on a faster 4X, though it could be said it's closer to a boardgame or a regular strategy game. I find some of those mechanics very clever and wish they were in bigger 4X, like the army exerting territory pressure, or the multiple victories conditions that ends the game much earlier. Being so short, it loses on certain aspects, there's isn't really any exploration, no fog of war, no trade, no diplomacy mechanics, no eras, no buildings (beside cities), no tech tree with technologies that drastically changes the gameplay.

But in and all, it's a pretty enjoyable experience for smaller, shorter, and more contained 4X games.

I can finally partake into high level fighting games' mindgame without pouring dozens of hours into learning the controls.

Hands down the best mystery Visual Novel I got to play. Great characters and drama, amazing soundtrack, and most importantly, an incredibly tight plot and mystery.

It's hard to talk about why Umineko is so great without spoiling it, the aspects that makes the story and game truly unique only appear after the first Episode (this game is divided in four episodes) and are very hard to explain without spoilers.

A few disclaimers though:
- Unlike Visual Novels like Ace Attorney or Danganronpa, Umineko has virtually no gameplay. You click and read. That's it. Not even choices, no branching paths.
- It's really long, with both games (Question Arc + Answers Arc), the full story is about 140h long. It's still amazing but you have to like reading.
- The vanilla game looks like ♥♥♥♥, go get the free 07th mod, it's making an amazing job at upgrading the art, include voice acting, and increase QoL. A must-have.

And finally, the one advice to take with you before starting to play: Don't stop thinking. Keep trying to guess the answers to mysteries presented to you. Unlike many similar games, Umineko rarely gives you full answers, and will just add hints and leave it to you to figure out the rest.

The game is at its best when you try to come up with your own answers and keep up with the plot, and despite being almost like a book, having virtually no gameplay, it circle backs to being a game with how much it can gets you invested in trying to solve it.

It gave me so many of those many "Ahah!" moments where I figure out stuff right before the main character has the same idea. You guess something, the main character repeats it 2min later (feeling so validated by the matching answers!), get denied by a new clue, you think again, come up with something else, the protagonist has the same answer right then, get denied again, and so on. That's incredibly satisfying.

If you like Detective novels and don't mind a long read, go for it.

A refreshing platformer, a bit short yet an enjoyable experience.

The game is absolutely gorgeous looking, each level has unique and satisfying visuals, and it feels like any screenshot would make a great desktop wallpaper. The whole art direction is really well done, and the characters designs are well-inspired.

The character's movements feels great, and each level bring few new mechanical ideas to freshen up the platforming. The combat plays nice, it evolves less than the platforming but the new weapons at each level contributes to renew it.

It doesn't have a memorable plot, but features funny and witty dialogs.

Pumpkin Jack won't revolutionize 3D platformers, but it's a honest and enjoyable tribute to its inspirations, such as Medievil.

The proof that a good presentation can even save a game as dull as Sokoban. Polished graphics, enjoyable music, and most of all, cute waifus and funny short dialogues.

The game is a bit hard because you have to finish each level with limited moves, which are often equal to the most optimal solution.

It's short, but for a free game, it's perfectly fine. If you have an hour to spare, it's a good way to get an interesting experience.
