surprisingly balanced and non-p2w for a Russian published game and one of the most newbie friendly unit-progression matchmaking game (World of tanks, war thunder) I've played, some people think it's grindy but as someone who played war thunder and world of tanks it's not grindy at all. You can unlock T4 units in 2 weeks, and end game T5 units in a month.

unlike other unit-progression matchmaking games like WOT, lower tier units stays relevant all the way to endgame due to the leadership system.

Unlike other games that only let you take one unit into a match (WoT), or balance you via the highest tier unit (WT), in this game you build a "warband" with a maximum leadership limit to take into a match, with more powerful and higher tier unit costing more leadership. This acts as a powerful balancing factor, creating a balance between bringing few but individually power fulunits vs many weaker units.

Additionally, the most leadership efficient units are low or mid tier units that new players can unlock quickly, allowing skilled new players to equalize the playing field against veterans. For example, T2 ironcap arquebusiers can quickly gun down T5 heavy infantry.

The grind most people complain about is that to bring your units to their maximum potential and get them max leveled takes quite a while. Make no mistake, it might take you more than a month to get your first max leveled unit. However, it really isn't as bad as it sounds, the difference from a level 10 unit (which you can achieve in a few days), to a maxed unit isn't actually that great for most units, maybe an average of 5% overall effectiveness, some units has key abilities locked away at higher levels, but those are the exceptions rather than the rule. Additionally, experience income is actually pretty good, the long grind for your first max leveled unit mostly comes from the fact that exp is equally split across all the units in your warband. Once you have a max leveled unit, the grind becomes much easier as that unit stops hogging up exp.

That being said, while the game is fairly balanced for new players, there is a fairly steep learning curve. The biggest mistake new players make is treating this game as an action game and focusing on the hero combat with units as a back-drop. Make no mistake, this is a strategy game first and foremost. You can be an absolute god at the combat, but still suck if you can't command your units well. While if you ignore the hero combat and focus on commanding you'll still be a valuable member of your team.

Unfortunately, this game has it's cancers, just like World of Tanks has artillery, this game has longbow heroes.
No, longbow is not overpowered, a melee class will on average contribute more to the battle, However, longbow is a huge mistake from game design perspective, there is no positive interaction with longbow player, in fact there is no interaction at all. Against any other class, I can try to reposition, suppress with cc, or directly engage with, against all other class, there is SOMETHING that I could have done against. What should I do when my unit is pinged by random longbows from across the map? Nothing, not because I couldn't move my units out of sightline, but because the optimal decision 90% of the time is to just take the damage and continue have my units doing that it's doing, especially when they are engaged.

Longbow heroes are a worse cancer than spg in world of tanks, at least with spg there are practical counter plays like hugging cover, pushing when spg is reloading, and you know the spg spent 10 seconds aiming at that spot when you get hit. With longbow the optimal play is to just take the hit because whatever you're doing is more important than running for cover.

I'm looking forward the large nerf to longbows in season 4, not that they are overpowered mind you, but because they are a fun sucking cancer that shouldn't have made it to the game in the first place.

Seriously, what the ♥♥♥♥ were the devs smoking when they added an unlimited range perfect accuracy damage class to a game with units balanced around strict range and melee combat?
