6/10

I don't highly recommend this game, it is simply alright. A slight above average is a great score to give this. While adding some new fun features to the Watch Dogs-gameplay, this entry overstays its welcome quickly and ultimately boils down to a bland experience.

Set a few years after Watch Dogs 2, you now play as basically any and all the citizens of London. You are a member of Dedsec and you are on a quest to counter terrorism by comitting crimes of terrorism. By hacking, shooting and sometimes sneaking in 4rd-person you finish missions, mess around in the city and find collectibles that add almost nothing to the experience. The story is alright, with some interesting characters and plotlines. Since you play as whoever you want, you do not go through any concrete character-development, you simply change who you play as. This is fine, and can be fun if you want to explore it. As I bought the gold edition of the game, I played the entire thing as Wrench from Watch Dogs 2 as I think his equipment is vastly superior to all other characters. The missions quickly become stale, as you do the same thing over and over, just in different city-settings. You drive to the site, you sneak and hack your way to the objective and then you either deffend it while getting swarmed by goons or steal it and sneak out. Sometimes you are in a car-chase, sometimes you solve small hacker-puzzles. That is basically it, and for some that is fine. There is nothing wrong with this system, it just never expands to anything on top of this. When you have played Watch Dogs: Legion for two hours, you have experienced close to everything that the game has to offer.

The game is about 12 hours long, shorter if you do not do any side-quests. I did all the quests and also played the DLC, Bloodline. That was much better than the base-game, as it had a much more involved and thought-out story with characters we know and love and that could be fleshed out through the gameplay. I liked it, the DLC is probably a 7.5/10.

+ Fun sandbox-gameplay with easy controls and mechanics
+ A nice gimmick to be able to play and recruit anyone as a playable character
+ Great soundtrack
+- a fun DLC. Sadly locked behind a paywall.
- Gameplay gets old really fast
- Very meh story

All in all, Watch Dogs: Legion is a fine game. No need to play it, but I doubt anyone will outright hate it. It does what it sets out to do in a satisfying but never mind-blowing way. Very bland but okay enough to not suggest staying away from. Buy it on a sale if you must play it for some reason.
