I would recommend this game rather than not however there are some issues I have with it: mainly that while there are many ways to reach endings, the only choices that matter are at the end and aren't locked behind doing anything specific before that point. The Princess feels about you the same way no matter what you do so I wouldn't say it's my favourite pick for a dating sim, although you can decide what happens to her.

Some spoilery stuff of how I wish it would have worked:
During the course of the game you collect 5 versions/personalities of the Princess. These don't matter for the story or the ending at all and are nice separate stories. Would be nice if different combinations of these (not every single possibility but some at least) would change how Princess acts towards you, at least during the leave ending (eg. getting The Razor, Fury and Beast makes her a crazy psycho and would probably be a bad-ish ending).

The different variations of the path you walk to reach the ending are the main highlight and I love the overall theme and topic of the game dealing with mortality, responsiblity, acceptance etc.. The amount of art corresponding to each option whether small like dialogue or big like some choices is also very nice. Voice acting is also mostly solid with 1 mic peak I noticed for The Razor dialogue.

I bought this game the day it came out not knowing anything about it nor have I played the 1st game, I just saw "Western" and "Turn-based Strategy" tags and said "why not?". The price is low and both game time and enjoyment I got out of it are well worth it.

I see a lot of people complaining about difficulty and I got to admit even normal difficulty made me reload battles even few times per battle. I wouldn't call it unfair as YOU, the player, can do some sick ♥♥♥♥ to enemies if set up correctly. Out of 6 playable characters all seem well designed and offer unique playestyles and advantages. My favourite one is full crit % Laughing Deer whom I got up to 92% crit chance and could have went higher if I added some stuff to his build. I saw a review calling this game a puzzle game requiring specific moves in order to win battle, but rng combined with build variety I gotta disagree.

Characters are cool. Not much to add... Adding an old grizzly undead cowboy in a longcoat with a hat is all I need from this game.

There's one technical issue that is very annoying due to the high difficulty of the game and that is loading times. They simply take too long and even tho my pc isn't state of the art I didn't have issues in other recent games.

Speaking of difficulty, I would like there to be higher customization in that regard. For example I like how hit chance % works on highest difficulty but I don't like limited turns to finish battle. Selection of modifiers would be very nice in that regard

Playthrough of this game will most likely take around 80-100 hours first time without looking at guides. It is really grindy and can be frustrating with how RNG-based it is.

With that said this is one of the best games I have ever played. Permadeath mechanic increases tention and stakes better than any modern game. This game isn't easy but it's fairly forgiving. You are free to experiment with many class compositions (excluding some areas where retreat will cost at least 1 party member's life).
As you crawl through the dungeons your party members will start accumulating positive or negative quirks. These can influence their satistics or interactions with items passed throughout exploration. Players can either lock certain quirks they find usefull or get rid of unwanted ones, however this will take considerable amount of money that also has to be spent on upgrades to skills and equipment as well as reducing stress meter.
Stress is DD's way of breaking up the turn-based combat and add some flavor to it. It builds up by being attacked by certain attacks, interracting with certain objects, going hungry and many other ways. It adds another layer to resource management and strategy.

I can't praise the visual design enough. Artstyle suits this game's tone perfectly, which is further reinforced by wonderful narrator and overall sound design of each area.

This game most certainly isn't for everyone, however with the upcoming sequel it's definitely worth checking out.
