This is a lovely little puzzle/time management game. It works well both as a mouse/click game, and on my touchscreen tablet (you can turn the cursor off for this as well). It's a fairly easy game, with short levels that can be easily completed with a bit of common sense and a spare 5-10 minutes. All in all a good time waster game, in the best kind of way!

I have been a fan of Harvest Moon since I first got my DS. Those games have helped me pass many a winter, and far too many hours have been spent on them I'm sure. Stardew Valley is very much a love letter to that series of games. It follows a similar format, but expands upon it in ways that makes it truly unique.

I shall admit that I've found playing it whilst referencing one of the wikis to be most helpful, but not essential. It's really up to you what you want to spend your time achieving. Mastering fishing your thing? Plenty of options there. All you want to do is dig in the dirt and plant crops? Sure why not. I've never been one to go out of my way to try and woo the locals, but I could if I wanted to! It's a game I can see me spending easily triple the time I have in, mastering everything and still finding I have much to learn.

My only real gripe about the game was the time it took for me to get to grips with the fishing mechanic. It doesn't work at all well for me using a touchpad, but using the keyboard or a real mouse is no problem once you've learned the mechanic! Other than that, as others have said, I suppose the nature of the genre is it can be a bit repetitive.

Overall, this game is beautifully crafted, with a lovely soundtrack and a depth I truly hadn't expected. For fans of this genre, I would definitely recommend the game. For those unsure if it's for them I would definitely recommend a look - you might be pleasantly surprised!
