I have sunk more hours into playing Dungeon Fighter Online than I have into any other game in my entire life. The sheer variety of classes, playstyles, equipment, bosses, and enviroments this game has to offer all mesh together to create the best gaming experience I've ever had.

That being said, it is by no means a perfect game. So, potential player who is reading this review, I hope I can help you decide whether to play this game with a short list of pros and cons.

Pros

  • Variety of classes. In my own opinion, this is the game's strongest point. Within this game, there are 13 (soon to be 14) unique classes that branch off into nearly 50 unique subclasses. Each of these classes offers their own unique skills that form their own unique toolset. Whether you want to be a bad-ass master of the sword or a terrfying shadowy assassin is up to you.
  • The game, both here and over in Korea, have been consistantly making updates towards making the game better. Sure they may make a bad change here and there, but with the vast majority of patches, they've made tedious grinds easier and weak classes better. If there's something that annoys you about the game, there's a good chance Neople's looking to fix it
  • The community really stands out among most MMO playerbases as being both friendly and helpful, especially to most new players coming into the game. So long as you don't act obnoxious, most players will be happy to tell you what you want to know. That is, so long as they're not being racist or weird (more on that later).
  • High skillcap. If you're looking for an MMO that can reward player skill, look no further. While admittedly you can get through most of the leveling process by player like a potato, most serious players consider reaching the level cap as only the beginning of the game. From split second timing, knowledge of multiple boss gimmicks, to knowing your character and what they can do inside and out, player knowledge is rewarded here.

Cons

  • Grind. Grind grind grind grind grind grind grind. I mentioned that recent patches reduced tedious grind and right now let me emphasize the word tedious. Right now, the grind that most level-capped characters need to go through involves running the same 3-6 dungeons twice every day for upwards of two months. The grind that most serious players go for to get their endgame-of-endgame gears can reach the point of over a year. And the worst part? It's RNG grind. Meaning that instead of a steady progression towards what you want, it's mostly based of sacrificing your firstborn child to RNGesus and hoping he makes the monsters drop what you want. There's a reason that this is the most common criticism levied at DFO. While later patches make this grind much, much more bearable, those patches are still about 6-10 mos off for us.
  • Graphics. While I've never been a graphics connoisseur myself, I have to admit DFO's graphics look a little...old school for most modern gamers. If you're used to cuttting-edge, computer-breaking, realistic-water-texure, skin-that-looks-like-it's-covered-in-lube graphics, you're not going to find DFO very intensive.
  • The community (sometimes). While 90% of the time the community is helpful, the other 10% of the time it's plain weird or just racist (think /pol/). A tip from a veteran: if you're Chinese, I suggest not mentioning it or pretending you're Korean. While the details as to why are too long to post here, just think back to RO's problem with Brazilians, make it more about money, and you'll get the general idea.

So, in summary. If you are looking for a fast-paced, fun action-MMO with a lot of depth, DFO is right up your alley. And hey, if you are only on the fence of trying it out, why not give it a spin? It's free, and unlike a lot of the genre, it doesn't lose anything for it.
