At the moment, this is my favourite strategy game. There are a lot of factions and lords to choose from (each with unique gameplay), with many varied units, battlefields and a massive world map. It rarely gets dull, and every turn gives you a new challenge to overcome. DLCs are plentiful and fair, with many free ones coming out regularly. Highly recommended if you liked previous total war games even if you're unsure about the fantasy aspect (It will grow on you).

The game is really well done, I highly recommend it for anyone that likes strategy games and also wants to get a glimpse of what the Syrian conflict was really like and about (hint: NOT a revolution). The graphics are amazing and the terrain, buildings and textures are really accurate for the most part. The game play can get pretty challenging at times especially when you have to control 5-10 different units with terrorists attacking you from different directions. Losing soldiers is inevitable and you are sometimes forced to restart if you mess up too badly. The narrative is also really in depth and accurate to the real life events that happened in the Syrian conflict even if they are rushed/shortened to keep the video game moving.

Rome 2 is an excellent strategy game that is very optimised (which allows it to run fine on low-mid range PCs without much loss of graphical fidelity). The graphics and unit models especially looks stunning and the combat is very fluid and realistic. Units are varied and balanced against each other and unit roles tend to be intuitive. Playing the grand campaign in co-op is very fun and rewarding (patience is required however). The vanilla game offers countless hours of gameplay and on top of that there are quite a few reasonably priced DLC's to choose from as well as thousands of mods.

That said, the AI can be dumb and predictable at times (especially in naval battles) and some QoL improvements still need implementing. Trade not being possible if your capital is not linked to your port by a land border is one such case. For example, playing as Sparta means you'll need to take over Athenai before you can ever trade with anyone other than Athens. As you can imagine, this gets complicated in a co-op campaign if you and your partner are playing as Sparta and Athens.

In conclusion, I give this game a perfect 5/7.
