The biggest issue with this game is that the platforming is relatively simple and easy enough (some challenging spots) but where the main difficulty lies is not having a clear sense of how to get from A to B.

You will solve the first few "levels" and be very close to the end only to hit that famous "I've looked everywhere but can't find how to progress" barrier. As the game has no hints on how to progress, I'd recommend this game for people that don't get frustrated easily. Fans of the genre should get Celeste instead because it is more thicc hehe~

EDIT: It says that you need a controller to play the game, however I played the entire game with a keyboard and mouse. It's honestly fine!

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons

TL;DR One of those gorgeous games that feels like you're "playing a movie". Gorgeous visuals, music, sound and animations all combine with an engaging storyline to deliver an experience that won't be forgotten any time soon!

Things you should know before purchasing
  • Local co-op and single player only.

  • Game is actually completely playable with a keyboard. I controlled both brothers with my keyboard and didn't have any issues at all. Using a controller will make the game's controls feel much more intuitive however.

  • Single player is A LOT harder than co-op. Be prepared to get your left and right hands very confused :p Still very playable though, if you have no friends or your brother is a jerk (like mine) :'(

  • The puzzles are pretty basic. This game is very much storyline driven, so for the avid puzzle-solving gamers out there, don't get your hopes up on that front.

  • The game's settings are as minimal as it gets. You get an option to change the game's brightness (gamma), the game's music volume and sound volume. That's all.

  • There's no option to spoon your little brother (or curl up into your big brother's arms) beside the campfire at night... :')

  • Very little replayability value, but given how good the storyline is, the price of the game and most importantly the type of game that Brothers is; this can be easily forgiven.
What you can expect from the game

Completing the main storyline
~4 hours but I took a bit longer.

Completeing all Achievements
an extra ~4-6 hours if you start a new file and explore every nook and cranny.

Trying to force the two brothers to cuddle up to each other in front of a ♥♥♥♥♥ giant
~7 minutes.

Overall

This game is an absolute delight to play. I would however not recommend buying this game for the full price unless you're the type of person who cries non stop at the end of an emotional anime/TV series. This tale of two sons brothers will definitely stick with you for a long time, however it is hard to justify paying $15 US for a game that offers about 6 hours of gameplay.

Get this game on sale and you'll have a wonderful new gem added to your library.

Peace!

Valkyria Chronicles

TL;DR If you like turn based strategy games with a loose "anime" twist then you'll definitely get your money's worth!

Things you should know before purchasing
  • The tank movement takes some time getting used to. Fuel can be drained VERY fast if you don't know what you're doing, leading to some frustration early on in the game.

  • The levelling up system is a bit dry. You earn XP after each completed battle and choose one of 5 classes to allocate your gained XP to. That's pretty much it.

  • Some maps favour certain classes/strategies far more than alternate playstyles.

  • Late game: Scouts and Engineers become a bit too OP :p

  • Outside of the main battles + skirmishes, there isn't that much to do. This is offset by a fairly lengthy storyline however.

  • Driving over enemies with the tank does no damage to them? Wut? (This wouldn't even be OP if it were implemented so I have no idea why they didn't implement this.)
What you can expect from the game

Completing the main storyline
A fun ~30 hours of gameplay + cinematics that doesn't feel like a grind.

Completeing all skirmishes
About ~15 hours of gameplay.

Adding on the DLC
Another ~10-20 hours that is also very fun and fills some gaps of the main story line.

Maxing all classes/weapons
An extra ~10 hours of grinding that's not so fun but ahh well.

Getting all achievements
At least ~20 more hours of game time.

Overall

I bought the game at full price and was very happy with my purchase. If you like anime or are an occasional watcher of anime or if you like turn based strategy games then this is a must have title.

Peace!
