I won't lie, I'm recommending this on very. thin. ice.
I had a burst of nostalgia going back through AC1 that so far I have enjoyed all the way through the Altair/Ezio saga and admittedly each game has had some Uplay issue of some kind (my support ticket never fully got resolved but I've either just worked round it or had to find some crazier methods for a game I already bought)

Despite this each game once running felt worth it, even found myself completing the majority of side content I missed in earlier playthroughs and found the gameplay had aged well.
AC3 however just did not have the same hold over me and for a while I could not just put my finger as to why, the gameplay still felt good, the story was alright and even the world was arguably better than even the first two titles (Brotherhood and Revelations still miles ahead, AC1+2 were carried by originality and plot, fight me)

In hindsight however I realised AC3 only felt off to me not for anything in the game, but for it being the canary in the coal mine, still an AC game... but not quite and potentially the last.

Yes AC4 is great, but all it really shares with the rest of the franchise is the title, and the following titles in the franchise were either Ubisoft scrambling to recreate the feeling of the old titles with varying success (AC Unity getting the closest, even closer than AC3 in some regards)
Or just Ubisoft giving up completely and just slapping "Assassin's Creed" on a large open world RPG that's are only as vast as they are shallow.

So if you happen to have found yourself enjoying the original franchise either for the first time or also for the nostalgia, this game here, at least in my humble opinion, is the end of the road- and depending on your own views you'll either get a bit of the way through this one till you either give up wishing you could be Ezio one more time or speed through it to either be a pirate or an actual Assassin one more time in Unity.

Or you find this franchise not as emotionally conflicting as I did and will enjoy tree parkouring over -soon to be tomohawked- Red coats

A steady improvement over AC2, can feel a little grindy if your'e a completionist though.

Early Access Review
The exception to the rule for early access.
Graphics might look dated but give this game a few minutes and the polish on every detail to the mechanics really immerses you into it's style.

Runs like a dream and co-op is pretty seamless.
Tonnes to do solo or with friends and both will have that old Minecraft effect of questioning if that really was a whole day gaming or your watch broke.

Overall:
The game is truly spectacular technically speaking, a clear evolution on procedural generation from Minecraft, the sheer scale of the universe and planets is breathtaking on first sight, and the content updates have more than made up for it's rocky launch (a scenario many larger studios would and have failed at)

However the procedural generation is it's greatest weakness as well- there is a lot to do but most of it will start to feel less unique once you've tried all the variations of mission types and content updates, and once you've seen all the planet types you can quickly start to wonder on each new planet "this looks familiar"

The Base building and Freighter management however can easily keep you entertained through these times till the next update or expedition and playing with friends can easily make this a game you both won't sit down till well after you got your money's worth out of it.
So long as your friend doesn't die falling through the floor of your freighter, this has happened quite a few times in my own experience 😅

Easily still holds up to replaying even after all these years and considering BL3's extortionate pricing model, is easily the better 'Bang for Buck' game

Can you really be considered a GTA clone if you did it better than Rockstar?

Brings back all the goofy fun GTAIV somehow dropped off
