I feel like the game has potential, but then again its been around for a while now. I have to say its like that girl you like and she finally says she'll go out with you and then you go on a date and holy crap she has issues. You still like her but you know that level of crazy is going to eventually destroy you. You make an attempt to see if it will get better but, no it gets worse and you realize that its as good as its going to get and you need to drop her.

Stellaris starts off simple. You have one construction ship, one science ship and one planet. You think, I can totally manage this but after about 3 hours in, you have 20 or 30 planets, space stations and neighbors that all want the same thing.. what you have. There is no real way to automate the management of your stuff, your planets need constant attention as do your space stations, ships and leaders. I spent most of my time upgrading things which you can't set to do automatically (if you can please let me know how). If I have to hear the hundreds of "Your ship has been upgraded" one more time I'm going to take an ice pick to my ears. God forbid they make a way for your space stations to just build ships.... nope In the middle of everything going on you have to click on your space stations and click build a ship, just 1 at a time no build queue. Then when you get to where things are going okay, boom some invincible enemy will just appear and wipe out your stuff you spent days building to the point where your drinking in the dark writing a bad review about the game. Don't even get me started about worm holes and gateways, these indestructable back doors into your territories that if you make the mistake of building, you can't un-build.

If it goes on sale, it might be worth trying it.. but eventually you will end up bitter like me.

I heard that some of the expansions address some of these issues, but for 10.00 it was worth the risk, but no way it was worth 39.99 for all the items that are missing but you would have to pay for as DLC.

Its as if somebody had a conversation with the all father Odin and asked "How would you describe 10th world?". I keep having to remind myself that this is an early access game and not the full product. I have played 484 hours, finished the game twice and I look ever day in hopes that there is news of some kind so I have a reason to play it once again. My fingers ache from pressing the shift and 'W' key and it was worth every single ounce of pain. I am sure I could repeat some of the items that need to be tweaked / fixed but I think its most likely been said. I would recommend this game to anybody. I haven't enjoyed a game like this since I played Ultima 3 on my PC jr. I drank deeply and still I thirst.

This game should not have been released yet. You have doors that don't close and do nothing to stop monsters from attacking your guys/buildings. You have dwarfs that will just run and attack at will, you can't stop them from attacking nor get them to go back. They jump off of cliffs to attack monsters and then can't get back up. You can't select all of your dwarfs at once so as your frantically trying to stop them they just do their thing. I died 2 times in the first 2 minutes of the game by getting attacked by a pack of rats. My dwarfs arn't smart enough to know that if you are level 1 and you attack the generator of the rats that you will die. Ultimately if you want to advanced in the skill tree you have to explore the cave, but if you explore the cave then you will almost always find some kind of monster generator that will kill you dead. I think my favorite way to die is to get ambushed by a pack of something and then have the UI tell me that if I don't revive my dwarf he will die, but it doesn't tell you how to revive your dwarf (no right click, no nothing).

I think it has potential, but after dying for stupid reasons so many times I'm done till its fully released.

Early Access Review
I think I bought the game for 3 bucks.  Can't beat that price.  I have played it for 38 hours (almost a full work week).  Initially I liked it, but it started to get so repetitive.  I like the combat system, but there is a lot of room for improvement for instance if you get a ship that has more than 5 weapon slots then it's hard to separate those since if you don't you run out of power and have to wait several seconds before you can shoot again or it will only shoot the weapons that it had power enough for.  Several UI improvements I would suggest would be:1. Sorting.  It would be nice to sort or search for items since after a while you have a laundry list of items stored in space stations.2. Suggestions on what components would be better for your ship or not.  If there was 5 it wouldn't be that hard but when you have a list of 40 different components its very hard to keep track of them.3. It seems that every space station wanted something, which is some what repetitive over time but having to click on each one of them because you have 600 of them and they all want different components takes to much time.  If it could show me what components I need and if a space station actually had them would be AMAZING.  4. The trading Codex is a great start, but only showing me the average, low and high doesn't help as much as telling which station had those prices.5. Trading, I figured this out in about 20 minutes.  Just find low prices on expensive goods which there is only 3 or 4 really and you can make a fortune.  If you think I'm going to buy iron because is 12.00 and on average it sells for 18.00 your crazy.  For 1, I can't hold enough of the iron to make it worth while in my ship (unless you have purchased a level 4 ship or higher and even then you can only hold so much), and for 2 making 6.00 on 100 iron will net me 600.00 if I can find a place that will pay that since its luck of the draw really.  I can buy 50 platinum and make 500.00 profit on each (that's 25K for our math challenged readers) in about 5 to 10 minutes which begs the question as to why I would do anything else?  6. Ships.  I like the ships, its fun to fly them but when you save up 300k to get the "Juggernaut" and its slower than my other ship it doesn't matter how many guns you have.  You'll be dead before you can turn and shoot.  Bigger better ships should be just that bigger and better.  It was a huge let down when I finally did get that big ship only to discover that it kind of blew compared to my smaller faster ship.  I mean once you get a cloaking device I could go anywhere and do anything without getting killed anymore.  Which is what brought me here to post since I couldn't think of a reason to continue playing it.7.  Purpose.  Other than just endlessly trading and killing pirates I have no real purpose.  Which is why I don't play it anymore.  It would be awesome if I could actually build space stations and become my own faction or develop my own empire.
For 3 bucks it was worth it. I look forward to them adding more.

Its very much hack and slash as promised. It is some what frustrating that if you pick the dagger to start out with your doing 2 damage if you hit and it seems like death from a thousand cuts vs. the guy with the sledge hammer who hits ever time just about and kills them. On I'm a nice guy its still very hard and I died a few times. I like the cave system, and I like the crafting and inventory paper doll system, very Ultima ish. Overall worth the 3.00 I paid for it and more.
