Early Access Review
I have played a lot of hours in this game, not exactly all are played as I have left the game running idle for many hours or forgot to close it. I wish Steam tracked "active" hours versus just sitting there paused, but anyway that is a rant for another time.

Here are some of my pros and cons to the game as it currently stands from a long time player:

Pros
Highly Customizable Goals/Objectives
You can make this game be anything you want. If you want to be a survival versus zombies you can do that, if you want it to be survival versus other players you can do that! If you want to RP as a survivor in the PZ world you can do that. The options are endless!!
Realistic Thought/Activities
You can drive vehicles in the game, and while driving you can't craft. Jumping through broken windows can injure you. These are things you should know/expect to happen when performing them and it is a lot of fun to see this implemented.
Mod Support
Countless mods to add whatever you want in the game that doesn't come wrapped with the vanilla product. If you want to fight zombies with a large spoon, guess what, there is a mod for it. There has never been a time that someone has asked "Is this in the game?" and my response, "There is a mod for it" has failed.
Learning Curve Is Steep - Base Game
This game has a massive learning curve, and I thrive on that so it is a personal pro for me, but not everyone wants to do that. But again, it is highly customizable so I find this as just an added feature from the base game having such a learning curve.
Great Price
Very affordable for what it offers and I would challenge any other company to make the same type of game and charge the same amount. I have been a gamer for over 30 years, and I haven't seen it. However, if someone knows one I would love to learn about it.

Cons:
End-Game Is Very Limited
While I mentioned it as a plus that you can have some highly customizable goals/objectives, once those are accomplished the game doesn't offer much. You have to accept that basically there is no end-game/roll credit scenario, the ending is up to you and sometimes the race to complete your goals might not take very long. This is a problem of all survival games in one sense or another, but it is a problem of the genre versus this game in particular I feel.
Critical Bugs/RNG
Some people will experience bugs that will end their game and it isn't their fault. I have seen screenshots and experienced issues where my character just up and died while walking down a set of stairs before. This has happened on MP a lot, some of my friends die from desync issues. This is something the dev team is aware of and working on in regards to MP, but these are problems you could encounter. RNG can also stack against you, you might be looking for supplies and hop into an alarmed building after being injured. You might find a cool weapon right off the bad or not find one for many days making you struggle tremendously. RNG is a major factor in encountering the bugs as well.
Update Roll-Outs
The game is developed by a small team, and so they are slow at making updates. Not everyone has the money to throw around like some big AAA companies, TIS is very much an Indie Company and so they don't have crazy resources so expect slow delays. Some people are impatient, and I can be at times but it is a fact of life you will encounter.

These are my thoughts from a long time player, I love playing this game and I enjoy hearing others having fun with it as well. It is a game that can be really great to play because of the elements and things you can do in it. However, expect some issues that may or may not end your game too early that is not your fault.

So, I don't normally write reviews, but this game motivated me to write one because of the awesomeness.

I am one of the old schoolers who enjoyed the Original Doom, Doom 2, and the various forms of Doom95. Doom 3 was a let down in my opinion as it went from fighting lots of monsters to more of a mano-to-mano fight with demons, which was fun but not as fun as fighting hordes of demons like I did in the days of old. This reboot brought back the mania of fighting against hordes of demons and they are much deadlier adding a greater challenge. This game is definitely one of the more fun and challenging first person shooters that I have played in quite some time. Let me go over the points on why you should get this game:

#1. Killings lots of enemies, nothing more satisfying than fighting a bunch of enemies and coming out on top.
#2. Smart AI and challenging fights in terms of managing your resources. I also like how they kept the AI attack your friend for the enemies intact because it is one of the few games that had enemies attack their own fellow enemies, which can lead to some hilarious one-sided fights.
#3. It is beautiful, the game just looks amazing and the sound is dead on. Incredible feel and look to the game.
#4. Weapon choices, armor choices, upgrade choices, there are so many choices and so many cool aspects to improve upon that it really adds a level of strategy/fun to the game that I thoroughly enjoyed and I am sure there are all kinds of fun builds you can make.
#5. Secrets and Easter Eggs, I really go out to find secrets because of the cool stuff they provide in terms of both valuable resources and some cool nostalgia that takes me back into the classic game. These kinds of things are growing to be expected as the gaming audience matures and when done right makes everything awesome.
#6. Some backstory on the Doom Guy is explained, which I don't want to get into any spoilers, but it is cool to learn something about the Marine that saved the human race a crap ton of times.
#7. The foreshadowing of danger in this game is so obvious. Maybe this is just my opinion, but when I walk into an area that is filled with resources such as health, armor, and weapons right next to a Demon Shrine I just can't help but say to myself, "So... these 3 power ups, armor, weapons, and health means I am not going to like destroying this Demon Shrine." For a moment I have to think and prepare myself for the onslaught that I know will be coming and the developers know that I have to be thinking that which makes it so fun to me.
#8. The bestiary for this game has some really interesting stuff and while some pay homage to the classic, it is also refreshing to see a few new additions that add an interesting dynamic to the fights.
#9. Humor. Throughout the game the Doomguy will do some pretty silly and hilarious stuff to get access to places and gets to see some of the havoc some poor souls suffered at the hands of the demons.
#10. Glory Kills, the addition of this mechanic has made killing enemies, especially annoying ones very satisfying and I like to see the different end results I can get.

Ok, so there are positives. Let's look at some of the things that I felt were off-putting when playing the game:

#1. Rune Trials: when you get to a certain point in the game you will have these Rune Trials that upon completion give you a Rune that provide some minor boost to your character. I felt these challenges were way too hard for the small benefit they provide. I only have 1 Rune that I am interested in and that is the very first one you receive, which lets you absorb items dropped by enemies at a much further distance. Which, I am not sure how far the distance really is since I am typically up in the grill of my enemies.
#2. Glory Kills feel almost required to survive in the game. I marked this as a positive because I enjoy the mechanic, but I also dislike that I have to rely on this to survive in the game. The more damage you suffer from an enemy the more health you get back when killing that enemy using a Glory Kill, this lets you recoup some of your health so you can keep going, but I rather not have to keep spamming for this just to survive. Maybe it is my skill level, but I feel desperate to get that Glory Kill just to keep my health up from some random enemy that I know is breathing down my neck ready to blast me with some ultra attack.
#3. Checkpoint Saving; I hate this mechanic and all games that use it. The classic Doom and Doom 3 games let you save whenever, which was awesome.
#4. No Co-op Campaign: The main reason I played and fell in love with the classic Dooms was the fact I could team up with my buddy and fight demons from hell in blazing glory using the starting pistol and dying over and over. That would have been a nice addition to this game and though they allow some Co-Op in SnapMaps it is just not the same.
#5. Story & Game Length: I personally do not care for the story from what I have experienced so far as it feels like it is a rehash of Doom 3, but maybe things will get more interesting as I get further into the game. I also feel that I am nearly done with the game and I have not played very long in all honesty, which saddens me because the olden days of Doom I could play for hours without getting anywhere near the end of the game. I remember playing from 8 p.m. on a Friday into 8 a.m. on a Saturday morning barely able to see the screen in front of me.

This game offers so much fun and replayability I have to recommend it to anyone that is looking to have fun. It also grows exponentially more fun the more people you have playing since this adds another element of surprise and strategy to the game that makes it interesting. The combinations of spells can make for some cool effects and amazing strategies as well. I have played a lot of this game and the content just keeps coming.
