Lets compare:

A certain game cost me approximately $50 USD and received over $550m in crowdfunding; still can not give me a playable game in an Aurora.

On the otherhand, we have this little gem, cost me half of what Star Citizen did, and we actually have a PLAYABLE game. Exponentially more features as well. AND ITS MADE BY ONE F***ING GUY?!

10/10 Would cuck Star Citizen again.

Seriously, CIG should give this man a job.

This game is not for the faint of heart. As someone who has played the Vanilla, Apocolypse and Utopia DLC versions, I've experienced a wide array of changes throughout the course of the game. If you are a veteran of games such as Sid Meier's Civilization, Galactic Civilazation 3 and Starcraft 2, then I do believe you will find much enjoyment in this game. Stellaris is one of those 4x gems that really goes unnoticed for how great it is. Most of the people complaining about the post 2.0 changes are really just whiney little schoolgirls who should have stuck playing Starcraft 2 or Civilization.

My personal experience in the 2.0 changes are very positive, and personally, I like the changes better than how they used to be. Gameplay now is no longer the rush to split your combat fleet at the start of the game and scout as much as possible, as fast as possible. The game now feels much more deliberate in absolutely everything you do, from picking your Civics, Traditions and you Research goals. Fledgling empires should now instead be focused on building up as much minerals, energy and science as possible in the early game and focus on defending their empire against the hostile alien/pirate fleets.

The entire game has been overhauled where you no longer spread your border influence automatically. Instead, now a much heavier emphasis has been placed on your construction vessels where you must build a starbase on each individual star to expand your borders, which still has an influence and mineral cost. Exploration is now done exclusively through the use of Science vessels or fleet ships with enough sensor power to see the next star. (you are unable to send any of your other fleet ships to stars that have not first been explored). Random pirate and marauder factions have been added in (With DLC). The FTL system has been completely revamped where Hyperlane is now the default FTL method with Gateways, Wormholes and Jump drives being available through research options in the mid-late game.

Finally the diplomacy system. Many people wail and moan about how broken it is, but from my experience it's pretty straightforward. If you click [F2 key] on your empire's flag icon in the top left corner (ingame) a window pops up with all of the other factions in the game, where you can see how friendly/hostile they are towards you, and if you mouse over the +/- number you will see a breakdown of all of the diplomatic modifiers and how they stack up as a result of your Civic perks.

There are only two (one) things that really put a downer on this game for me, and that's the absolutely infuriating interface. First is the absence of a hotkey map and the ability to rebind ANY of your keys. You have to do this by editing the library files with Notepad++. Secondly, if you are a higher level APM player then you like to play at a higher speed, yeah? Well the game throws so many notifications and spam for absolutely every event that happens, and instead of stacking them on one icon with a number to indicate the likeness of events that have occurred, you have an icon for every individual event that happened. Ever. This greatly reduces the time that you have to spend upgrading your planetary tiles, producing ships, microing fleets, etc.

Summary:

PROS

++ Absolutely wonderful storylines, if you take the time to read them.
++ Random events, Random universe, everything is random, except your faction and civics
+ Improved expansion system
+ Easy to learn if you are a veteran RTS player, VERY difficult to master
+ Overall, slower paced game that forces empires to focus on building themselves before taking the fight to the enemy compared to vanilla
+ Most recently the introduction of 'Ensign' rank which is basically the equivalent to Beginner level. The game feels much easier to overcome AI than in Vanilla.

CONS

-- Absolutely atrocious UI and absence of hotkey mapping
- Very taxing on PC System resources; this game shows your PC for the potato it really is especially on the larger maps
- Random pirate/marauder spawns will leave you in a frothing rage, foaming at the bit after you've thrown your keyboard across the room.
- Notification spam will tune you out to important events that actually need attention; for example, me not noticing the Prethoryn Scourge until the second wave with my fleets on the opposite side of the galaxy. FML
- You will feel like you've been bent over on a cheap date without being fed dinner first for your first 50 hours or so, or until learn by watching twitch streams and YouTube content.

~~TL:DR I absolutely love this game; got it on sale and can't get enough, 400 hours played at the time of writing this. Not to say that it hasn't made me Alt + F4 in fits of rage at times. 8.5/10.
