This DLC almost doubles the content of the game.
The new level, music, curse mechanic, weapons and characters are phenomenal.

While it seems that X4: Timelines is a controversial DLC for many, it offers a much welcomed break from the sandbox by offering a couple of handcrafted missions, ranging from a minute to about fifteen minutes each.
The mission variety very well reflects sandbox activities and range from racing, fighter-style dogfights, carier based large scale operations, simple mining operations, spacesuit handling and even an Assasins Creed like assasination, in space.
Playing those missions reflect some history of previous games, a welcome surprise for veterans of the franchises and something to explore for newbies.
Completing the missions unlocks additional content in your sandbox.

It is important to know that while some missions are quite difficult and hard to achieve the highest ratings, it is by no means neccessary for those sandbox unlocks, where its only requirement is to just play through those missions and achieve the lowest star rating, just a little bit above failing a mission. Therefore, even if you don't want to stress yourself, you won't miss something in the end.

Albeit a little slow and hard in the beginning (the first 6-10h), it is an overall nice game with cute graphics, decent story, enjoyable combat and funny (pokemon-like) combat pets.

It is a real great complex space 4k game. You can be literally everything you want, play like you want and have fun in any variation possible.

Don't be afraid of all the DLC. Either try out a one month subscription or buy only the 2-3 most suggested DLC and you are fine already. Often there are sales.
You can expect it is a successful game when even after 8 years, it is still in the Steam charts and there is an active development taking place (also in the form of DLC, but this allows everyone to enjoy new content regularly).

If you enjoy any similar games of the genre (in my case, the X-series, Endless Space 2, Civilization series, even Anno), have a look.

The game starts a bit slow but after understanding the basic mechanism it is alot fun.

Other then that, nothing bad to say.
The game mechanics work well, the UI is good, alot of replayability, matching visual arts, decent music.

I was one of the early players.
It is just not worth it, not for the game and its mechanics themselves but for the following aspects:
- On release it was a buggy mess with totally unfinished mechanics (like critical ressources not even spawning, half tech tree missing). While some of the things initially missing were patched into the game later stages, it is still lackluster.
- It contains FOMO (Fear of missing Out) content you won't be able to claim nowadays. Why? This isn't a MMORPG where this stuff is more common.

Therefore the game mainly failed not because of its ideas (it could be great), but its rushed release (and not fixing parts of it years later) and bad marketing ideas (e.g. FOMO stuff).

Thanks for developing my favourite board game of all time.
It is hard to find friends who want to invest a couple of hours into a boardgame, therefore I'm glad that this exists.
I read negative reviews some years ago and abstained, however I bought it in early 2024 and it is worth every penny.

I just hope all the rest of Terraforming Mars (unique cards, other expansions) gets their DLC too. Looking forward for a great journey.

It is a great game in many ways:
- Decent story
- Good visuals, voice actors and music
- Complex combat.
- Difficulty settings for everyones tastes

But most important, it gives you nearly unlimited freedom how you want to play the game

- You can play solo or as a party with up to four characters, each with their own story
- Tons of different approach to story, combat and gameplay

And last but not least, also playable with friends.

There is only one small downside: The first area after the tutorial could be a bit overwhelming and complex and some things aren't explained well (but will unfold as you progress).

While it was a little bit too easy compared to the other DLC, it was double or even triple the fun.
For this low price, you really can't do anything wrong.

Expect a combination of a Minecraft sandbox world combined with earlier X-series titles (X2, X3) and some Loot shooter equipment management.

Especially noteworthy is the ship designer, where you can design and build your own ships. And when you don't want to spend time or aren' creative, you can easily use the workshop to download tons of designs by other people.

Another plus is the possibility of any kind of multiplayer (PvE/PvP/Co-Op as either direct connection or even dedicated server) which most games of similar genre don't offer.

However the more you delve deeper into the game, the more you became frustrated about the lack of QoL or even basic and mundane features missing. There are flaws in some of the more important gameplay tasks (such as inventory management is a hassle). While you can modify core gameplay functions yourself, it was a disappointment to see some vanilla gamecode and the understanding behind some of the resulting issues.
