I'd really like to enjoy this game, I just.. don't.
It has a bit of the mechanics from Anno and Settlers but not nearly as deep at all

The campaign is fullyfleshed out and can offer a pretty good challenge especially on boosted.
Where the game really shines is MP.
It's pretty hardcore and can be difficult to get in to but if you can find someone to play with it's quite rewarding and fun on a level Total War cannot come close to compete with.

I kept on waiting for the story to be engaging and interesting but it just never happened. With mediocre gameplay and puzzles that are fairly obvious and more tedious than exciting and challenge you, it feels like more than a chore to play the game than it should be.

I think the game is entertaining and worth playing.
The many reviews blaming the store and saying you have to buy XP boosts etc. are just wrong. It's not difficult at all to do some quests to reach the required level. It can even be surprisingly fast and I've occasionally thought it went too fast. I've reached level 42 and it looks like the end can be reached around level 50 but I am just guessing here.
The game is big, with a map of all of Greece and options and quests at every turn.
It doesn't feel as a traditional Assassin's game because the brotherhood is not formed. Instead, you are fighting as a mercenary but like the assasssins eventually will.

Enjoyable all the way through. The ending sucks though which is unfortunate but otherwise it's good.

I don't quite understand all the positive reviews.
As a WW1 game, it's only the time zone and the setting itself that's about WW1. Could be basically anywhere.
After 2 hours, I've followed a fairly mediocre story.
I've got a guy running around using a spoon to knock out people instead of a rifle, despite being free from the prison camp several chapters ago. Noone's got a rifle actually. Other guy has a bolt cutter as his main "weapon". Occasionally you get to shoot an artillery piece which is kinda fun. The girl does medical work with an uninspired and irrelevant mechanic that consists of pushing up/down and occasionally TWO buttons at the same time when there is a pulse coming across a marked line. Kind of like guitar hero. I think the game could have been without that mechanic and I wouldn't have missed it.
The puzzles, which I suppose are the games main focus are not really interesting and often tedious rather than requiring thought to figure out.
Maybe I'm just grumpy and all the positive reviews found something in there I have not after these two hours spent in there.

I just can't bring myself to like the mechanics of this game. Fleets being able to sail up and capture small settlements in 1 turn and near impossible to guard a large coastline that you'll inevitably have.
Endless hordes of Huns until you finally kill Attila 3 times, I think it is. So until you've overcome him amongst his 6-7 death stacks, they will keep spawning untouched by other defeats.
Then there's the fact the a horde can swoop in and destroy a province completely in 1 turn. That could at least have something that takes 2 turn so you have a chance to repell the destruction.
Overall, to me, the game feels like it's much more about overcoming punishing mechanics than it is about roleplaying a roman history, which I otherwise am very interested in.

If you had any likings for UGG, you will love this game.
If you are any kind of Civil War buff, you will appreciate this game for the historical accuracy put in to the game
If you like strategy games, this offers challenges and game mechanics that are refreshingly easy to manage and yet provide deep tactical options.
The numbers that can be deployed on the field in this game is mindblowing and you really get the sense of bringing an army to the field.
It comes highly recommended from me. Having seen it grow from the beta, I can only dream of what is yet to be in the game. Gettysburg, Fredericksberg, Cold Harbor, just to mention a few of the big hitters missing from the campaign yet and the historical battles.
