If you like context-based learning (and/or working against oppressive power structures to promote cooperation among peoples), then this game is for you.

Everything you expect from Amanita Design:

an immersive, whimsical, beautifully hand-drawn world;
a rich, fantastical score; and
clever puzzles that emerge organically from the game world.

Like Machinarium or Samorost, there's no spoken dialogue, yet there are still intriguing characterizations and touching moments. Unlike these other games, Creaks is more linear in format, which actually gives strength to the puzzle elements as you're able to learn their mechanics incrementally. I find some of the controls a little clunky, but there's little (if any) of the game that relies on speed or precise timing, so it's easy to forgive.

At 6–8 hours to complete, it's fairly small, but rich and compact! Immerse yourself in the world and enjoy at your own pace. <3

Forget Darth Revan, the story of No Man's Sky is the best redemption story in gaming.

I adore this game. Teenage Nostalgia Sci-Fi Horror for adults, complete with surprising emotional depth and phenomenal voice acting. Not to mention deep character interactions, consequences for your actions, story-driven *everything*, and a gorgeous synthy soundtrack.

Takes 4-5 hours to complete, but there's really good replay value for (again) story-driven reasons. Subsequent playthroughs are actually creepier and add interesting gameplay and plot elements.

Less of a "game" and more of a journey through character and emotion, a partaking in the unfolding of story and memory, told through flawlessly acted (and written) vocal lines and a stark yet strangely familiar landscape. The allegorical story is deeply moving (I, a grown man, weep tears of raw emotion and catharsis at the game's conclusion), and the accompanying music is equally so: very consciously Ralph Vaughan Williams-esque, a perfectly pastoral, haunting soundscape to complement the barren, windswept island on which the story unfolds.

Don't buy this if you expect it to be interactive, like Myst; there are no puzzles to solve per se. But if you want an experience, a deeply enriching experience that poses deep questions about life and love and loss, that opens your eyes just a little more with its sheer poignancy, then Dear Esther is for you.

Life changing, beautiful, heartrending, a masterpiece decades behind its time.

Delightful, whimsical, chock-full of ingenious puzzles. And a splendid soundtrack.
