Finished RM got 95% of the achievements. That's all but 1. I plan a 2nd playthrough on whatever VR HS I might get in the future. This is how VR should be used.

This game was definitely my kind of experience. Reminds me of slow moving sci-fi like Silent Runnings, etc. The settings were drop dead gorgeous. I took my time throughout so I wouldn't miss anything. Everything others said annoyed them (like the guy periodically communicating with you via radio) I really liked. It felt like something from Carpenter's first film Dark Star. The voice acting was fine and really added to it for me personally. I hope the sequel has the same.

Others have mentioned the puzzles being a tad simple. A few challenged my puzzler a little bit. But I just have to make sure to looked at everything. For anyone who might get stuck... just stick it out and keep trying. Nothing better than completing a game like this without getting a hint.

I hope the sequel increases the fright factor. The atmosphere here kept me constantly engaged. But I think it's a slight let down in the end.

Like a really great film, this was well worth what I paid for it. I tried it on the Quest 3 through Meta using Quest+. Loved it. But then I bought it and played it through steamvr and it was quite a bit better looking. This is a game to be explored fully.

I plan to take on the sequel soon. But next I'm going to Genotype.

I come from the school of Dungeon Master on Amiga. That particular game stayed on my shelf for about a year before I could afford the RAM upgrade board for my old A500. I looked at the box almost daily, with it's screenshots from the Atari ST. How dare they not use an Amiga screenshot! lol

The one thing that captivated me about the screenshots was the closed doors. What's behind there? And the items scattered on the dungeon floors. What other treasures could there be in those dungeons? Damn I loved that. And when I finally got to play it it was all that and so much more. Pretty much my favorite Amiga game.

I'm only about 3.5 hours in but there's a lot to like about HotMT. Everything from the dungeon itself to the pissed off residences inside all look very nice. The sounds are pretty good however the music is superb.

Although a few things throw spiders in the leather helmet and get stuck in your hair as you scream for you mama and... (sorry, went too far). There is so much wasted opportunity (laziness?) to create atmosphere with these kinds of games. DM, Grimrock 1 and 2, Eye of the Beholder, and a few others nail this. Here, that magic is just missing something in most places. Hard to pin it down totally.

One thing, there are just too damn many wall shelves. Put some stuff on the floor like those screenshots on the Dungeon Master box! Make the place look lived in. Have blackened spots on the walls where the fireballs hit after you trigger a trap! The trigger buttons for secret areas are either the same old thing or something I don't even know how I triggered it in the first place. Triggers should still operate even if you have used them even if you just hear a sound.

Other things, like that penalty for fleeing. You automatically take a hit even if the thing you are fighting is not facing you. I feel cheated. I got used to it and just don't think about it too much. But I do wish I could turn that off somehow, maybe on a slightly easier difficulty level,

I still have a ways to go on this one to warrant a full on review but I just wanted to put some thoughts down. At this early stage, this is a pretty good game with flaws. There are others that are FAR better than this one and deserve to be played before it.

First rate storytelling. Like Gone Home this is a prime example of how to do this, just grabbed me and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. There was sadness, tension, paranoia, lots of mystery that unfolds at an excellent pace. This could be adapted into a movie. One thing I wish I could add would be more animals. I saw a 1 deer, a raccoon, a turtle, birds up in the sky. mainly falling leaves and animal sounds. (the ducks seemed more like duck calls, heh heh) but that was it. This is a forest! Makes me want to play others in my steam library like this one. I am playing through again with the excellent commentary cassettes. Please do another! (different story/setting though)

Funny I should stumble on this game Max, since not long ago I had posted in a forum thread discussing games like Another World (Out of this World) and Heart of Darkness. Everybody was wishing HoD would come to steam. After playing this demo (and thank you whoever for putting a demo of this up and making it only $2.99 during the steam sale this year!!) I had to have it.

Just over an hour play at this moment (I know, not enough for a proper review) I felt compelled to review it in hopes others will see it in time to play the demo and see how good it is. The cartoonish visuals are excellent and feel familar to any fan of kid's animation. Don't let that stop you though. It starts casual but started to get tougher at about the 1 hour mark for me, in world 2. My favorite thing might be the sound and specifically the voice work. First rate! Max is very vocal the whole way through and it adds enormously to the whole experience, along with the music.

It's been years for me and HoD, so it's hard to properly compare the 2 games without going on an exhaustive hunt for the game disc. But that game immediately came to mind while watching the opening cutscene. Pretty sure it would have even if I hadn't been discussing that old game.

Only slightly over an hour in and this is great fun in short doses. Highly impressed. But even at $2.99 play the demo first to see if the difficultly level is right for you. It does start pretty easy.

Yes, played about 6 minutes. But I needed 6 minutes worth of positive things said to me in quick succession. I'm "incredible" and "amazing"! I feel very nice now and was able to uninstall feeling satisfied.

Can I import that big nuke from FO3's Megatown and put a crator in this kind of gaming business model? F2P sucks because you don't get enough to fully enjoy without paying out of the ear.

Other than that, this game looks pretty good still, but like a wooded area you grew up in... it don't quite look the same only a short time later.. . ;)

Before it dies, let me play this whole game for one price and forget all this monthly garbage. I don't buy into that.

Thumbs DOWN for now.

Took me about 3 hours. Loved all the eeriness and detail of the house. Pretty good storytelling. There's also a feeling of anxiety that goes along with sorting through someone elses stuff, well for me anyway. I'd find that uncomfortable to do for real. Oddly, even in this game I got the same feeling.

Please make another one with a completely different story. Would love it to go "all the way" and be much much more dark. It could really scare the hell out of you if done right and this was soooo on the right track.

Holy Toleeedo this is wonderful! Beautifully remastered, fun as hell to play and watch. Plays nearly perfect on my PC. I LOVE IT! Thank you Digital Leisure!

With that said, this isn't everyone's bag of bones & nostalgia. But for me it's nostalgia overload. I used to just watch people play it in the arcade and only a few time paid my quarter (only to lose before the first few scenes). The game was aluring, but ominus/intimidating to my younger self. If the guide icons were available at the time I probablty would have played it to completion eventually, using a LOT of quarters. As an adult, I won't use the guide icons but I will play the "Home" version since I think each scene should be conquered to get to the next. It's much funner that way when quarters aren't required.

This is the version to get if you ask me. I've owned several, Amiga and PC floppy, and PC CD. Today, I also picked up DL2 and Space Ace. Can't wait to play those too. Wondeful! Wonderful!!!!
