How to put this: of itsself the season pass seems valuable. And yet, when you look at the content in it, it doesn't really hold up to that.

Ready Or Not is (more or less) the spiritual successor to the SWAT series of games that were made by a company called Sierra On Line in the early to mid ‘90s. It’s a shooter that actually does something else. It rewards you for not taking a life, unlike other shooters.
As usual, you get a lot of toys to play with, just like in other shooters and, RON is no exception. The only exception might be, that you’re able to use both lethal and non lethal weapons while you ll play through a story in a city that looks somewhat like LA, but isn’t. And much like the real police you ‘ll deal with a lot of problems and see some things that most people will find a bit unsettling. And yes, that’s putting it mildly!
Currently, there are 2 versions of the game available. A rather expensive supporter edition that gives you early access to the released patches and some extra DLC in the form of the FBI HRT with some assorted equipment.
Despite the game being in early access there seems to have sprung up a rather vibrant mod community. This community has not only expanded some of the game’s possibilities, but made it possible to play a number of the old swat 4 maps as well. Which means you have some nice gameplay material to choose from. One thing about the gameplay though. It’s better with friends, comms and tactics, and that takes time. Luckily, RON looks like a game that ll be around for a good while.

Something popped up in regards to this game. A 2nd DLC is incoming. And again, this one is free for the owners of supporter edition. It makes me think they have some small development issues, but I don't think it's worrying.

*this review is based solely on my campaign experiences

Sniper Elite 5 is the 5th rendition of the game where you play Lieutenant Karl Fairburne, expert in ‘kyboshing’ Nazi doomsday weapon programs.

This time, Karl goes to France, where there’s yet another evil Nazi looking to end the war on the terms of the 3rd reich. Here’s where the game shines like a diamond. The levels themselves are simply stunning. There is a mission where you’re sneaking/ walking through a metal forgery. It not only looks like a factory, it feels like one. Same thing for the Chateau, along with the weapons ranges. It feels as if in that aspect the devs really did their homework.

But if the devs did something right, they also did something wrong. In some cases, it’s not terribly wrong, and in some cases it is. Take Charlie for example. She’s plausible as an SOE agent, but she would have attracted a lot of attention from both Gestapo and the SD. Same thing for the black resistance guy that can be seen in the opening cut scene of version 2. Believable to a certain point. But at what point does suspending your disbelief go too far?

My answer would be with both the combat and the stealth mechanics. Oh sure, it’s just as fun to shoot a Nazi in the balls in this version as it is in the others, but that’s where the comparison ends.
There is a big downside to combat in this version of the game. The enemy has a tendency to keep on coming therefore when you defeat a sizeable group of the enemy in one spot, you don’t really need to worry about enemy opposition on the rest of the map. The devs seemed to have used the mechanic of spawning some more soldiers on that same spot, forcing you to move, but it feels haphazard at best.
The stealth mechanics are in the same way. Oh sure, trying to disable an alarm is a challenge all in its self but, what if an alarm is on a part of the map you haven’t been to yet?

All in all, Sniper Elite 5 is a game that looks nice, but doesn’t quite play nice due to the problems with the two mechanics I just mentioned. There are other game modes available as well, but I didn’t get around to trying them just yet, so if any of you that read this review consider it incomplete, that’s fine. Finally, I would wait a bit for actually purchasing this game. See what happens patch wise and dlc wise. For it still needs work.

Deep deep DLC, with a lot of equipment of the vietnam war in it.

The Dlc comes with 2 game modes, the campaign and something called Mike Force. Mike force let's you cooperate with other players to clear the map, using the available equipment. The campaign itsself let's you run through a small number of historical missions that were carried out by members of MACV SOG, former members of which have advised in the making of the campaign.

I will directly admit to only having played one mission so far, but what i've experienced tells me this game goes deep in the immersion department. The jungle is deep, you ll hear voices and you will know the enemy is close by. But, you won't see him, and yet he knows you're there as you hear shots in the distance.

The downside is that there are only 6 missions in the MP campaign. But, what makes this unique is that SOG veterans contributed in such a fashion that it allowed the devs to really create the effect of 'being there'. It works. There are nowadays plenty of videos that show or at least reflect on it. But there is a gameplay depth to this campaign that is nearly unbelievable.

The DLC has been out for a bit more then a week. And yet, I can't wait to see what this development team has in store for the future.

Ah, the SGW series or, how to make and play fun games while still having a bugridden mess. I suppose that sums up the SGW series of games the best. The game is fun if you like messing around with sniper rifles and the open maps do look gorgeous, but, unfortunately that's where this all ends.

On the bad side I came across things like sound bugs, enemy spawns that showed up in a cleared area and did nothing (I tapped them in the head for good measure) And then there's the places on the map where you can get stuck in which case you need to restart. I won't even get into the AI as in some cases it had me considering uninstalling this game a bit earlier then I was looking to do.

Finally, I got this game during the last time it was on sale. Even in it's current condition it's not worth the full sale price.

Definetly a fun game. Better with friends as the AI at times is a little stupid. Some of the effects could probably be done a little better, but you're so busy as to hardly notice that.

I’ve actually changed my opinion on this game.

Oh, there is a positive, but that positive is just the fact that there is now a 2020 graphics xwing game. That’s quite literally the only positive I can think of.

And then there’s the negatives which outweigh the positives. With a 2 or 3 game modes that have a tendency to get repetitive quick and an unoriginal short campaign, there isn’t much substance to the game.

I’m not above adding in the launch troubles. Granted, with literally thousands of hardware combinations out there, the chances of something going wrong are usually quite substantial. I suppose Squadrons is no exception to that.
At launch I noticed a lot of error code reports in general. Next to that were the HOTAS issues. In this aspect I consider myself lucky the steam forums and the EA site for the game have fairly active forums where some forms of workable solutions quickly appeared. And that’s what left me wondering about this game in general. Should I be playing this?

Still, it’s 2020. There’s a starwars xwing game, but it could have been better...

Into the Flames caught my eye on a discord a fair bit of time ago. I joined the discord for that game and was pleasantly surprised when prior to the launch on Steam a (now outdated) demo was released. To be honest, the demo wasn't deep, but revealed a lot which hooked me in. What also helped was finding out that the lead (and only) developer is a career firefighter in the USA.

Then came the early acces release, with the big map. Quite quickly I realised this game will shine in multiplayer. Why? Well, imagine the feeling of driving up to the scene of a fire with a fire engine with a ladder truck in tow, knowing that you and some of your buddies will have to go 'into the flames'.

I would say choosing the Unreal engine for this game was a good choice. Because contrary to what you might think, the inside of a building that is on fire, is dark, really realy dark. And yes it also means the hose is your only way out..and if you're lucky you might see your buddies, working on another part of the fire...But I digress..

The game is currently in an early acces alpha phase, that means there's a lot off unfinished stuff and missing features and such things. So if you're not familiar with Early access titles, just put this on your wishlist and check back from time to time. Despite that the game plays relatively well.

Anyway, Into the Flames in it's current state is quite enjoyable. Wheter or not it ll grow into something more; only time will tell. And I do look forward to seeing what happens.

After having played a bit of Post ScriptumI believe I can say that this is definitely a relatively fun game. PS is also one of the relatively few games I that I know of that feature Operation Market Garden, the rather costly and failed attempt to get across the Rhine before Christmas.

True to the usual form for these games is the presence of the two factions, the British(in the form of the 1st Airborne Division and the Polish airborne Brigade) and the Germans. Both factions have the usual equipment and classes available to them, and all of the equipment seems to have been rendered as historically accurate as possible.

After this, I suppose things get a little generic. You pick a faction, you pick a squad and a class within said squad and the according load out, and you’re off to battle and capture and hold points. Fair warning though. Find yourself a group of people to play and fight with. You will not accomplish much on your own.

There is also something that’s bothering me about this game and, it’s not the getting killed in combat, but it is related to it.
My trouble is with the visual system.

In one aspect, the visual system of this game is fantastic. I don’t of any games that can convince you that you’re going to have an ‘oh crap’ moment when you’re on your merry way to rejoin your squad after getting killed and you spot the silhouette of an enemy scout car off in the distance.
The other aspect, and this is where the game doesn’t shine at all, is that the same visual is rather limiting in combat. This came to the point that I was actually wondering from what direction I was taking fire. I suppose that you can put the fact that sometimes the enemy can snipe at spawns as well in the same category. I believe this will be addressed though.

Finally, would I recommend this game?
Yes I would. Although there are plenty of other WW2 games out there, in a certain way undefinable way manages to combine one of the darker periods of human history with some good (but not excellent) gameplay.

Several things at once running through my mind now that I've spend the last 2 days on the newest addition to the shooter genre.

Is it bigger? Is it better? Is it more of the same, like Sniper Elite 3?

Let's start with wheter or its a bigger game or not. In one very different aspect from SE3 this 4th edition is definetly bigger and, the one place where it shows this, is the map size. Granted the maps are not Arma 3 size huge, but then everybody that plays this would be looking at different game altogether or so I feel. Anyway, in what is a change for the better, the newest game in the series features larger maps, which in turn allows for somewhat varied more gameplay. But in turn, does that make the game better?

An improvement in comparison to SE3 is the fact that you re no longer stuck to a single route to your target. You can make your own way to each mission objective. Another useful improvement that wasn't present in SE3, is the use of subsonic ammo in your sniper rifle. Although limited in ammo (and with good reason) this new feature is hilarious fun. Just imagine sneaking into an enemy base, getting to a vantage point, selecting your target and waiting for just the right moment to squeeze off that shot that leaves the rest of the area confused about wheter you're in the neighbourhood or not. It also adds a little extra challenge to the aiming process, but then, what's a game without a challenge?

Also something that I find noteworthy is the detail in the maps. If I were to look at Sniper Elite 3 again, the at times rather bland mountaineous desert like area and basic looking military camps, has now been replaced by somewhat wartorn and occupied coastal fishing villages, harbours and naturally, larger and better protected military installations while trying to...well you have to play that to find out.

At least one hold over from SE 3 made into this game. The X-ray cam. So Yes, if you pull off a rather special shot, you will see a lung deflate or a testy explode or any other bodily organ be submitted to rather deadly dose of lead poisoning. And that's just in the singleplayer. The other hold over is yet another attempt at killing a certain someone who carries a moustache.

The game comes with the usual coop mode, a competitive mode, and something new (to me) called survival mode. In this game mode, you and 3 others have to hold off waves and waves of enemy attempting to take your command post. At times quite harrowing, but definetly just as fun as cooping through the 8 missions that are in the default game.

In the end Sniper Elite 4 is definetly a bigger game then the previous edition. It has a few more bits and bobs that make it a bit more interesting, and more open spaced then the previous incarnation of the game, making it a bit less pathed and predictable.
In turn this makes for an interesting ride.

Should the price worry you, wait for a sale. By the time the summer sale comes around there should be some more DLC available.
