Max Power!
He's the man,
Whose name you'd love to touch!
But you musn't touch.
His name sounds good in your ear,
But when you say it, you musn't fear
'Cause his name can be said by anyone!

Seven years since the announcement, three delays, and many promises later, it has finally arrived.
Amongst an insurmountable level of hype is a wave of disappointment, valid criticisms and terrible launch of the biggest title of the decade.
While ignoring the technical shortcomings, it ultimately fails to be an enjoyable gameplay experience in its current state.
The red flags were present during the lead up to release, but are now glaringly apparent.

Positives
(+) Graphics
When stable and set to High, the graphics look amazing for the current generation. It is not revolutionary, but establishes the universe very well.

(+) Sound Design
The soundtrack, weapon sounds and voice acting are top notch.

(+) Customisable Settings
Many aspects of accessibility were considered: Motion-sickness reduction, streaming/copyrighted material omission, text size, User Interface, Individual Graphics Settings,

Negatives
(-) Tedious Gameplay
Many other publishers are crucified for their lazy, uninspired, hand-holding, restrictive and insipid gameplay design, yet Cyberpunk is rampant with the same issues:
  • Extended sequences on rails
    - AI drives while the player shoots enemies/vehicles with unlimited ammo, but finite health
  • Bullet-sponge enemies
    - Low level enemies require 3 clips of ammo with headshots to kill, while the player is critical health after 2 shots.
  • Abysmal AI
    - Lack of reaction during stealth, buggy spawning, allies walk around like an idiot during combat with impunity, allies have no sense of direction and lag behind
  • Point-and-click sequences (Braindance and robot-direction)
    - This brings the action to a halt and forces the player to meticulously comb through a scene for 20 minutes looking for clues in the most unengaging way possible.
  • Reliant on scripted sequences with no gameplay
    - “Hold W to crawl forward” pays homage to the tediousness of Call of Duty gameplay
  • Long interactive, but unskippable cutscenes
  • Choices not mattering
(-) Awful pacing and story-telling devices
Montages, heavy exposition, meaningless dialogue, forced cutscenes and lack of control plagues the prologue. Games should be enjoyable from the beginning, not a chore before it “gets good” much like the Witcher 3.

(-) Technical Issues
This game is significantly unoptimised and almost unplayable without DLSS due to frequent frame drops even on lower settings.
Bugs, while not yet gamebreaking, ruin the immersion. For instance, a mini-boss was glitched inside an elevator, could not be engaged and was able to be killed with 3 bare-fisted punches.

(-) Empty Universe
The NPCs roam the streets like mind-less zombies who don’t react to the player or changes to the environment. Traffic will not move around the player, NPCs don’t react to violence, the same voice-lines are repeated.

(-) Awful Visual Design
It is unbelievable how so much flashing, screen shaking, blurry transitions and motion-sickness-inducing effects were left in the game. It is very visually fatiguing, distressing and immersion-breaking.
The animations are awful, especially the ragdoll physics.
