This is the most innovative and interesting shooter I have played since Titanfall 2.

To all the negative reviews saying movement was changed from beta.. It wasn't.. The devs are confused because they thought you could tell the difference between the beta FOV default and the release default.. But, y'aight.

Edit: Passed 100 hours. I definitely say this game is more than worth it on sale.

TL;DR:
Gameplay feels like a much easier to understand version of Warframe (if you've played that, it'll make sense), which is a good thing, the story is actually worthwhile and I would have still paid full price for this game despite the fact that I bought it at 60% off. It isn't perfect, but it's definitely fun. I experienced 1 self-fixable bug in 25 hours. Solid 8/10 game IMO.

Review:
I'll start by saying I did not follow the games development before release nor did I research the alleged "promises" and details of the game that were described by the developer. I watched the original trailer for the game when it dropped, waited for release, avoided the game due to heavily mixed reviews and decided to pull the trigger on a sale.

That being said, I don't understand why this game gets a bad wrap, but it's apparently due to my ignorance to what the game was "supposed to be". I have had a ton of fun, experienced 1 bug in 25 hours (edit: 3 or 4 bugs in 100 hours) and the game runs great. The heroes actually all feel quite different and have a plethora of well animated and diverse abilities that scratch a very satisfying "damn, wish I could do that >insert move< from that movie in a video game." itch. The game feels like fan service; cheesy but funny voice lines, surprisingly good story, movie references, and throwback hero outfits/calling cards, etc. The combat is challenging and has enough variety to keep you on your toes, especially when learning the ins and outs of your heroes role.

I will say though that the maximum difficulty felt completely unbalanced, not like Dark Souls where you say "ah, now this is a challenge", but more like "this isn't remotely fun and these enemies don't even make sense" i.e. you're hulk and you've punched a BASIC enemy about 20 times to kill it, and there are 20 of them. It rivaled the bullet sponge-ness of The Division, on heroic difficulty.

The gear system requires about an IQ of 5 to comprehend how it works. There is also enough legitimate story content to last a good 30 hours I'd say, perhaps even 40 depending on your own pace. By "legitimate" I mean it is unique scripted content that has a "purpose", whereas in the endgame you reach procedural missions where the only goal is to max your hero and face different challenges. Oh, and "saving the world". The plot armor of the enemy faction that is applied after completing the main story is a bit laughable, but it's a superhero game, right? It's always going to have moments of extreme absurdity.

Overall, I recommend the game. Completely worth it on sale. The skin system for characters is disappointing only in that it is very limited in how much you can get without spending real money, but in all fairness most AAA games are like this nowadays. It isn't enough to turn me off to the good gameplay and above average storyline.

Edit after 100 hours, on my opinion of the premium currency system because I felt it was necessary to describe in detail:

The "challenge card" system is extremely refreshing of an idea as opposed to a traditional "battle pass", as each character has their own that earns you resources and various cosmetics/emotes. However, the original 6 heroes have free challenge cards, and the fastest you could fully max a challenge card for 1 hero is several weeks, not due to grind but due to time constraints on the challenges being daily and weekly; meaning: in a given week, no matter how much I play Iron Man for example, I can only earn 64 points, the max for the card being 200. This feels kind of stupid because it means someone who only enjoys playing 1 or 2 heroes is capped on progression towards their card. That being said, these cards also act as the only method of earning premium credits without paying real money. Each hero can earn 1300 premium credits on their challenge card.. for reference, ONE legendary hero skin is 1400. Meaning your hard work after grinding the challenge card of all 6 base heroes (assuming you played all 6 enough every week to complete all their challenges, for a whole month straight) will only net you enough to buy a few legendary skins (or several lower tiered skins), and maybe a couple takedowns (which are my favorite cosmetic, and unfortunately go for 600 a piece). And after those challenge cards are complete, you have no way to earn more credits. You will now be stuck buying any new cosmetics with real money. And because there is no seasonal battle pass like in CoD for example, where you can buy a battle pass, earn the cosmetics for various characters during that season, earn your premium credits back and carry it onto the next battle pass, you are left only with maxing the challenge card of the new heroes to come out, meaning you do "earn" your credits back, but you also ONLY earned cosmetics for that hero.

I don't review games often, but I'll try to be very short because my feelings about this game are immense. I don't have nearly the hours that many long term players do, but this game finally got off my wishlist when it was on sale and I'm extremely glad that albeit late, I gave it a try. This game has so many levels of detail that it is staggering. The galaxy is stunning in every single aspect both in terms of size, density and accuracy to our own galaxy. The graphics are still incredible by my standards and I am extremely excited to see that the future of this game is bright with the Odyssey expansion announced. If you like exploration, decisions that are the small changes actually affecting the world around you, thrilling space combat, or just space in general, I really do recommend you play this game. It has many many routes and possibilities you can take that I believe just about any style of gamer will find enjoyable.
