If game won't run after install try this:

1) Go to Steam game library drive and open steamapps\common\IL 2 Sturmovik 1946\conf.ini with text editor.
2) Edit to:
width=1920 (or what matches your display)
height=1080 (or what matches your display)
FullScreen=1 (or 0)
Intro=0
3) Save and close conf.ini

This should allow starting the game from the main menu.
