Early Access Review
A robust, well-constructed, strategic card game that most closely resembles a stylish version of Magic: the Gathering, but with a layer of tactical play that sets it distinctly apart. Many different strategies and archetypes are viable with over 300 cards to craft and build decks with. I've built half a dozen different synergy-based combo decks already and I feel like ive barely scratched the surface of whats possible.

The tactical dimension to the game is a great additional layer on top of something like Magic or Hearthstone. Positioning units to guard, or block an opponent's critical attack feels great, as does trapping units on the enemy's back row in order to stifle their creature production. Ranged creatures and flyers really do feel like they hit different as the battlefield is large enough for them to have real impact. The tactical positioning of one's creatures creates interesting game play moments, such as whether to leave a ranged unit in the back row where its safely able to bombard the enemy front line, or to move it up in order to free up a slot to summon a new monster.

Plenty of other small things stood out to me about Artovya, such as the unique ability to start with a couple of free 'exchange' cards at the beginning of each match, which really smooth one's draws and allow each deck to always function well enough to put up a good fight. No losing to mana screw or mana flood here. The free energy card that the person playing 2nd in the match starts with is also a nice way to mitigate the advantage of winning the starting player die roll.

The 'situation' cards are another, more spicy touch that i also really enjoyed. they made the same matches with the exact same decks feel totally different every time we played, as their chaotic effect on the battlefield often swings the game wildly in one or another player's favor.

Overall a solid game with engaging play which feels surprisingly balanced considering how fledgling it still is. I recommend trying it, and I hope to play against some of you on the ranked ladder!
