A fantastic 2D mecha game with a major league asterisk attached to it, which I will talk about later! You can tell a lot of work was done behind this game. The sound, music, the opening theme and overall art (albeit looking like a high-def flash game at times) is amazing, right down to the overall feel of moving your mecha throughout the game! Although the controls will take some getting used to, you'll have a blast when you get the hang of said controls, from hovering, firing and the good melee action depending on the mechs and/or upgrades you choose.

The storyline follows the prototypical shonen anime plot, except in this case it does a great job showcasing legitimate realities while being a part of one of the many PMCs in the game. There's just enough plot twists to make it interesting and it thankfully doesn't fall into the trap of the "PMCs aRe baAaaAAaAAaad!!" narrative (I'm sure that one satirical reviewer from The Escapist will approve of that! XD ). The difficulty curve is very reasonable, with easy mode giving you enough time to take in the scenery, but don't let that fool you! I admit, the last two stages were surprisingly challenging even on easy mode. I can imagine normal mode will be just as challenging with the similar difficulty curve, which is a great thing!

And this is where I address the one asterisk that may be a deal-breaker to some of you: Remember the mechas advertised in their amazing trailer? That's only available in multiplayer as well as the Simulation/survival gauntlet mode. You only have one mecha to pilot in single player campaign and when you unlock the Simulation mode you need to grind to unlock many of the mechas available in that mode. Not so much for multiplayer, but if you don't care for that mode...

Speaking of which, the multiplayer is pretty good and hectic in a very fun way! There's also a split screen version for those who want to play locally, up to 4 players. With a neat variety of mechas to choose from, there needs to be more game modes outside of free-for-all and team deathmatch (at least as of this post, free-for-all is only available as a quick match option.). And this is a nitpick of mine, but the camera needs to zoom out so we can see the battlefield better, and NO the sniper mech's snipe mode doesn't count!! DX

Overall, if you love mecha in 2D platforming form as well as a multiplayer option, this is a definite buy! If you're mainly a single player person, wait for a minor sale until the devs figure out how to add the advertised mechas into their own campaign chapters.
