As a classic Mega Man fan, this is a fantastic translation from the tried and true 8-bit to the modern high-definition version! The awesome head-banging music, the sharp crisp graphics and anything that makes the classic Mega Man series great is done near-perfectly in this version. Although Megaman/Rockman himself has changed compared to his superior 8-bit self, it’s just enough differentiation without looking like the awkwardly large Mega Man 7 sprite. Meanwhile, the story itself also looks like one of the best coming from the Mega Man games (Not spoiling it here, but it’s really well thought out!).

The overall difficulty maintains what makes the Mega Man/Rockman series a great game: Although it will appear really challenging on the 1st few playthroughs, after that combined with memorizing the patterns it becomes a really fun romp in the park! It may take a while to get through the levels, even on Casual mode, but the overall experience is really satisfying after you complete it! If you’re new to the series and/or you’re not yet ready for the big challenge there’s Newcomer mode. It makes things a lot easier (The infamous insta-KO spikes simply giving you damage instead, for example.) so newcomers can get used to the game’s systems and mechanics, while the pros can have a chance to decompress and have a good time! Speaking of which, like Mega Man 9 you can collect screws (the in-game currency) to buy whatever items and upgrades that will make things easier for you to traverse the levels.

There is also a collection of challenges for those who want to look beyond the main game, replays and leaderboards included, and achievement hunters will have a nice time overall.

So far, the only major problem I see in this game is a huge jump in difficulty between the Newcomer and Casual difficulty. Otherwise, this is a great Mega Man installment to look into, along with 9, 5, 2 and, IMO, 1!
