It's like dreaming.

I should be more specific.

It's like a dream where you're flying, in a beautiful, saturated, peaceful low-fi world. You can move effortlessly, fly at incredible speeds, reach out and touch the sky or plummet to earth at a reckless pace.

This is a game that shows what VR is capable of and the kind of experience, the more than life experience, the beyond simulation experience, that VR devs should strive for. Jet island doesn't try to convince you that you're in a real space, it succeeds in convincing you that you're in an impossible space and can do impossible things.

The controls make sense and give you a great toolbox for movement, with upgrades as you go. This will probably test your VR legs. The disclaimer about making sure your play space is clear is not a joke, you may lose track of which was is "Down".

It has a lot of the feel of Shadow of the Colossus, Myst, or even Dark Souls, where you're clearly an interloper, a very small intruder in a vast and ancient place.

If you want to see what VR has the potential to be once devs stop mashing out shovelware arcade shooters and trying to replicate pancake games you really owe it to yourself to get Jet island.
