4/5 game. Some aspects I really liked, others were a big let down. I liked how they allow base building in an open world mmo. But the final dungeons are just not fun imo, really hard to beat and that is on standard difficulty.

The game itself is fine, not bad for a worker placement game. The UI is just terrible, and still needs work making it clear what you are confirming, and not having to click the small confirm button in the corner of the screen for every action. If you want the player to confirm something, make it obvious and have it part of the window they just used! I want to recommend the game, but I also want the devs to make the UI vastly more player friendly.

Early Access Review
22 hours in and I feel like I have "finished" the current stage of the game. Looking forward for what they add.

What to expect from this game:
Building stuff, to unlock better stuff, to build said better stuff, to unlock even better stuff. It's a simple gameplay loop, but impossible to break.
Watching the planet evolve and terraform. From a barren wasteland to the first rain, to the first lakes, to grass growing.
Astroids not destroying anything, but delivering more resources. Not sure if this will change, I kinda hope there is an element of having to repair your base if it gets direct hits, but not necessarily loosing resources from doing so.
Exploring. The accessible parts have a few crashed ships, and one amusing surprise I found very late into the game.

What not to expect:
Currently, any real challenge. The only thing that is going to kill you is forgetting to drink/eat/breathe. I never found myself lacking for these resources, and only died once as I got lost in an area and couldn't get back/ build a hut in time.
Complex logistics. Currently energy is global, with zero requirement to connect generators to machines.
Sensible terraforming. Assume you are terraforming from a base level, and the temperature doesn't start at 0K, in a complete vacuum.

Things may change before final release, but hopefully always for the best.

Had played ages ago, had fun, got to the end and thought it worth while. Then they did an update and improved it... so playing through again and liking the new touches which were added. It's not going to take you months to unlock all the chooks, build all the stuff and have a nice little chook farm, but the journey will be enjoyable.

I still want to like this game, and for a completionist, it took me around 100 hours to "beat" the game, that is win a run on max epilogue level. And while there was some fun had, I have no desire to continue playing. There are "only" 15 difficulty increases in the game, unlike 20 for Slay the Spire and 25 for Monster Train. You also only need to beat a difficulty with any pair of heroes to unlock it. As there is no log book of wins, there is nothing telling me what pairs won at what difficulty, although the last few runs I just used the same pair because they felt like a strong combo.

As such, I feel very little desire to continue playing. The devs have fixed most of the early bugs, but there are some which could still be fixed I think, plus wording on certain cards made clearer.

If you loved StS and want to try something similar, this is not terrible, but I feel this lacks the replayability StS and MT have. It also feels easier, a lot easier, than either game.

Early Access Review
First, let me say over-all I did enjoy my time playing this early access version of the game.
Next, let me be clear, this game is very much in EARLY access. If you don't like EA at the best of times, you'll likely hate this game as it currently stands.

It's an open world, do what you want type game. It has base building, automation, fighting, exploration to an extent. I'll keep saying this, but it's still early days and there is not much depth yet, but the ideas are there and you can get a good feel where it is heading.

The current big issue I feel is it is very much in the early part of early access, and I expect so much of what is in the game currently to change. I do wonder why they have released the game to open EA, given this.

They have two distinct automation systems. One where you stick things to crafting tables and chests to create adhoc chains. And another with automated factories using conveyor belts to move items between construction units. The first is rather fiddly to set up but is modular and can cover any kind of production line, while the later looks and feels bulky, and doesn't cover things like cooking yet. I hope they find a sensible middle ground.

They have weapon progression, but armour progression has a huge hole in the middle. You have the usual Copper > Iron > Steel > Titanium > Platinum ores, which can be used to make better swords and picks. But armour goes from Leather > Iron > Platinum, with Platinum also requiring dropped items from dungeon bosses. I have just over 50 hours in game, and not made the Platinum armour yet.

It's a similar thing with Age progression. in this game, what level of tech you have access to is based on your Age progression. This is increased by donating items to a Pillar of Civilisation. It starts with fairly basic stuff you can mine or fish, but then has a massive spike in requiring what I assume are items from the new Hell map, which seems to require the platinum armour set to explore.

However the Engrish is wonderful. Not all items have Engrish translations yet, and it's something they are working on, but when they are it's easy to note they need to hire an actual translator... or not, as the item descriptions can be wonderfully hilarious.

It you enjoy trying out games still in development, this could be fun. If you prefer playing a finish product, give this game a year or three, so they actually build a fully realised game.

Note when this review was made, as the game has hopefully changed.

I'm recommending it mainly as I think this game has potential. However there is a lot of polish before this game is a must-play.

The ship building is nice. Working out a design which balances safety and accessability is important. You'll be spending a lot of time there. My main issue is lack of lighting, as you'll be crawling through the ducts a lot, and yet no one thought of putting more lighting down there. Even just something like a head torch would improve things.

The main issue I have is the constant cleaning up of the ship you have to do. Go on an away mission? Expect to sweep the ship of all the new growth. Teleporting in resources? You'll eventually have more cleaning up to do. And for some unknown reason, the AI clones are happy to ignore them unless they have a specific perk from leveling up... seriously guys, some alien growth is covering half the teleport station and you're acting like this is perfectly normal!!

The tutorial also missed explaining Sites, which are bonus tech/ weapons/ upgrades you'll want to find while on the mission yourself. You have to look around the area for some of them, but I didn't realise what it meant until I went close enough to an obilisk that it started the process.

Play this game if you like survival/ building games and don't mind giving feedback. But I doubt I'll play any more having 'completed' one run of the game unless there are serious updates.

Perfect puzzles to do during lock down. Nice variety of rules, combining sandwiches, thermometers, and chess rules with non-consequetive rules for new challenges. Would recommend playing the others first to get used to those rule sets, but hey, more sudoku is never bad, right?

Only had one play through but damn is this game depressing. You are constantly trying to keep people's sickness, injury, hunger and depression down, while also trying to manage their energy. If you let one get too high, it can start to spiral out of control as they now have depression, starvation, and are bleeding, just pushing them closer and closer to death.

You need resources to build stuff, but sending someone gathering causes them depression. I had already lost 2 new comers to that, and quit before one of the original family succumbed. Knowing what buildings to prioritise is a big part of the early game.

Time to play again, while managing my own mental health.
