the world feels like MMO in a chrono trigger style, but single player. MMO game world is literally the story of this game, and i love other characters just running around the screen as if they're doing their own quests. super neat.
Played 3 hrs on first sitting. I love games that have quick and responsive movements/fighting mechanics, like hollow knight.

after 30+ hours review:
the puzzles are really fun and you really have to sit there and think a lot and trial and error is what you should be doing. the combat system is fluid and action feels good, but the underlying system of gears and upgrades dont quite match up to the satisfying fluid movements of the action. all the loot i get is crappy gear, and you need to collect so many different ingredients to buy and upgrade to another weapon or armor and after 30+ hours, i haven't been able to get more than 1 or 2 weapons from the shop. my money is just sitting there in my wallet unable to be spent because i dont have any ingredients because all these side quests are taking away my ingredients too. the puzzle element of crosscode is very clever and makes you feel like you're thinking outside the box, but i think the game tries too hard to be clever on the combat system as well and fails miserably.
if you played secret of mana, the action combat system is similar to that on the outside, but you will not be able to defeat simple monsters unless you turn down the damage handicap, and for some reason, the bosses are hilariously easy.
im about 25% into the game i heard, so i will continue to play but im going to lower my expectations for the combat side of the game, and just try to enjoy the world lore and exploration along with the puzzle side of the game.
