That's... it? The game has 4 maps + tutorial. It's incredible short. If I hadn't AFKed and repeated a map, I would have beaten it in 3h or so.

It has a bunch of characters and heroes you can unlock, but nothing to throw them against unless you replay the little content that exists. The "campaign" is so ridiculously short it might as well be an extended demo.

The gameplay is fun, but missing a bunch of QOL features. Why can't I see the range of enemies? Why can't I see all hexes targeted by enemy effects? Why are melee units so underpowered that they might as well not exist apart from very select few. You have an item system you will probably never really use. It's like 50% to a full game.

At 75%+ discounts you might get your money worth, but even at 50% I feel ripped off.

It's a fun game and I enjoyed my time.

The game is not an IDLER / cozy tho. While you have no 'pressure', infinite resources and there are no enemies, you still have to constantly run around and do & collect things. So be aware that it's not possible to fully automate it, which is the biggest critique I have about the game. Otherwise, I've had to google some things, because they aren't really explained or it's unclear how to progress at some points. Some QOL features could really help, but it's totally playable as is and I can fully recommend it.

Any of the Soulsborne game before just feel better to actually play. Hard but fair, hard but fun.

The DLC is neither of those things. This is hard for the sake of being hard when most boss fights consist of the same "difficulty increasing" measurements like delayed attack, 5+ combos of varying numbers, jumping around the arena and having AoE attacks so you can never just strafe paired with otherwise tiny punish windows and gap closers makes for an incredible samey and tedious time. And they basically 2 shot you even at max Scoobydoo fragment levels on top. Instead of wanting to get better, you just want it to be over.

Go back to your roots. This ain't it.

Feels very unpolished and clunky, in some parts on purpose and in some by accident.

It is also very unoptimized with stutter and if you tab out more than a few minutes the game simply freezes and you have to ALT+F4 to freedom. Speaking of freedom, you have the freedom to safely skip this game or wait until a deep, deep discount.

Aborted after the second run, getting to the 3rd boss on the initial run.

* The grind is insane to unlock new characters. e.g. killing the first boss 10 times means 10 runs, and a run can easily take over an hour.
* VERY RNG dependent. From what you get, to what you draw, which is very emphasized by having 4 characters at once, meaning you sometimes don't draw anything for a character.
* You don't really have much influence over the course of a battle due to that and there are not really many interactions. Feels like each side is playing their game with minimal battle-to-battle tactics differences.
* Relics and in particular boss relics are just often very bad. You should become more powerful over the course of a run, but that doesn't really feel like it's the case here.
* Insane niche card synergies. Just to give an example: For a single character you need to get specific 3-4 cards, draw those cards during battle AND have the trigger happen on top. That's 3-4 potentially dead cards over the course of a run or hand, until you hit everything. So usually, you just end up skipping card rewards altogether.
* Targeting enemies can be very clunky, since their sprites overlap.


The game has potential, but it lacks balance, UI polish and needs to redo their entire card system by making less niche synergies

Evoland 1 is basically only a gimmicky and once it doesn't evolve anymore, it slightly overstays its very short (2-4h) welcome. It also has terrible hit boxes on the final boss, which left a bitter taste.

Evoland 2 is more akin to a real game with multiple time travel periods within a small world, which is a fun idea to explore. It's much better and fleshed out, but Evoland 2's downfall is its absolute insistence to include some bad and some even worse mini-games, which can't be skipped. You have Street Fighter-inspired Fighting section (which was easy and fun enough), some terrible timed jump-and-run sections, a Gradius-like shmup which goes on way too long and an infuriating auto-runner which ultimately made me quit the game, because I have better games to play than force myself through that terrible instant-death-pit section of a chore and having to repeat the entire stage just to memorize the layout.

Overall, it's not terrible and on a sale you easily get your money's worth, but since there is no mixed review and these sections just soured my experience, I have to give it a thumbs down.

I've played the game at release and now again. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a bit of flawed gem but it manages to deliver an overall enjoyable experience, evidently by the fact that I wanted to play it again.

The combat system offers a wide range of weapons and abilities. Some weapons are clearly superior to others, and certain weapon types feel underwhelming. However, the sheer variety of options helps mitigate this imbalance.

The gear and shard system is the clear standout feature of Bloodstained. The game boasts hundreds of skills that you can acquire from virtually every enemy in the game, making finding out what a new enemy posses super fun. However, the execution leaves a bit to be desired. Having to swap gear-slots or individual shards just to have access to a particular exploration skill feels needlessly finicky and the drop rate is abysmal. If you would only need a single shard it would be fine, but having to farm an enemy to get the maximum rank 9 of a skill with a 4% drop rate is a bit much. Not that you absolutely need to, since the game is easy enough.

The exploration is very linear and still sometimes confusing as to what you actually have to do now that you did X or can do Y. Sometimes you get tips from the NPCs but it doesn't seem to trigger consistently.

The biggest negative is the decision to lock harder difficulty levels behind New Game+ which always feels asinine in most games and actively diminishes the fun. Why bother gearing up, optimizing your build and shards when a can just face tank a boss and burst him down within seconds?

In the end, it has significant strengths but also notable weaknesses, but you can't do wrong on a sale.

Do better
This game is missing so many QOL and basic infos and functionalities, it feels like it's coming straight out of 2001. The game has potential to be very good, but they didn't finish it.

* Why are the talking animations so stiff, unnatural and robotic?
* Why do you NOT CLEARLY MARK the 1/2/3/4.., AP thresholds of your movement?
* Why can't you see how much ammo you currently have when you reload?
* Why can you shoot a target you (apparently) have no vision on?
* Why can't I get back to my squad view without having to reenter the barracks?
* Why is stun entirely useless on higher difficulties because they die before ever reaching stun thresholds?
* Why do you get gang swarmed randomly for ridiculous unbeatable difficulty spikes?
* Why does covering an area remove me from my own cover?
* Why can't you skip the ridiculously long intro for a map?
* Why are there seconds of nothing happening on enemy turns?
* Why are enemy effects soooo slow?
* Why is every single map just reinforcements after reinforcements? Creatively bankrupt.
* Why are there like 3 map goals overall?
* Why is there only a SINGLE auto-save slot?!
* Why even have that ♥♥♥♥♥♥ warp gauge? It's just tedious.
...

The game forces you to do uninformed choices, so it's basically RNG instead of strategy.

The game has no real identity and very little to offer. It's a sinlge map x5 in slight variations.

Town building? Shallow & clunky
Dungeon exploring? Clunky and weird
Tower Defense? Horrendous

The needlessly and endless hive attacks serve no purpose and are utterly unbalanced. If 10 traps, 14 fighters and 3 mechs can't fight off a single wave, then your game balance has some serious issues. And that is ONE side and you get attacked at two sides or more at the same time. Yeah, no thanks.

On the one hand you have a casual, leisurely town builder & dungeon explorer and on the other hand you have this awful mechanism and bombard the player with new unlocks at lightning speed. Choose what audience your game actually targets, because this ain't it.

Very fun and with the very cool Hades-God-Power system, that allows you to customize your attack, special attack, dash, "magic attack" and your passives.

It also has a customizable +/-% damage and HP option, so if you you can somewhat brute-force your way through it, if you really want to. Personally, I recommend setting it at -30% enemy health & +30% enemy damage to make it a bit quicker and faster-praced.

PS: Drill & spear normal attack suck, but the heavy-drill spam upgrades are super good.
