If you want something good, go play the original. If you have played everything Dying Light like a filthy zombie and desperately want more, this is like, the crack you get when your dealer wants to keep you coming back for more but knows you're already in too deep to complain about quality.

Edit:
As promised, I re-visited DL2. I still hate it, but I want to take a moment to say, support this developer. It is mostly a matter of taste. But it would be a lie for me to thumbs up this game. What I can truthfully say is that if they made a 3, I would buy it. If they made DLCs, I would buy them all. I would purchase all games from this franchise, because I believe DL2 is just a miss step from a developer that makes great games.

I don't mind a few miss steps on the way to the next cult classic. But this is not the cult classic I wanted. If you want to try some of their new(er) stuff, go play Hell Raid in the Original Dying Light. They did well on a Diablo/Doom/Dying Light hybrid in that DLC, and it feels good.

You should also check out, Dying Light: The Following, if you have not played Dying Light before. Part of why I have so much criticism for this is because of how phenomenal the original game still is after all this time. Even now, I still love that game.

This is a Metro game. The thumbs down is because it isn't MY style, not because it is inherently bad. If you like the games I like, and hate the games I hate, you will hate this game. The long, drawn out, un-skip-able dialogue of white men yelling is infuriating. I can hear ♥♥♥♥ like that by walking down the street. Dialogue skips are NECESSARY in this day and age. Especially if the cut scene is an in-engine cut scene that isn't particularly enjoyable.

Don;t get me wrong, I love a GOOD cut scene. Like the Diablo ones back in the day? They were fantastic for their era. Exceptional in their time. Datednow, but were fun then. Doom cut scenes? Love em. Especially Eternal. Epic.

So the thumbs down? I disliked it. Simple as that. I can't recommend it to anyone like me. If you are already a Metro fan, this is already a Metro game, so you already know how you feel about it. This is definitely a fitting Metro game, 100%. And that is why I dislike it. I was hoping for something new, some change. But sitting through cut scenes, and having someone yell over an audio challenge tuning that radio? That was more than I was willing to suffer through to get there.

Will I revisit for a review update? yes, eventually
Will I keep it? Definitely, I might want it some day.
Will I play it soon? No way. It's an instant shelf spot.

Revisit, still a great game with a lot going for it. Patience is required, so I tend to enjoy it more as a second game while playing something else. As a main game it is too slow paced.

A side scrolling clicker adventure. Enjoyable. Takes a long time. A game for patient players. But it pretty much plays it's self once you set it to it's task. D&D plot with low input controls.

I have played this before, and only recently came back to it. My hours at review are less than my actual time played. Most of the main story is the same, but the seasonal options are vast now. Restarted for enjoyment. I hadn't really played in years, so it's fun to come back to it.

Think Diablo but more elaborate in gameplay and less elaborate in cut scenes. It's quite fun to be honest. Great for when you need to pick up a long haul game that you chip away at every so often. IDEK when or where I got this, but I know I have played it before and I still enjoy it.

A lot of folks dislike the micro transactions that are available. I personally don't think much of them, because I am not absorbed in community events, PvP, or competition. I just play it for fun sometimes. If you're going to try and PvP, you'll want to bring your wallet. Otherwise you can play in a state of blissful ignorance and enjoy the game at your own pace.

I've been enjoying this one for it's niche. The sci-fi rewind thing. You'll eventually never need it. But when you're starting out it allows you to try your hand at the same scenario multiple times instead of having to restart the entire race just to make the same mistake over and over.

It's got some vocal loops meant to send subliminal messages of positive reinforcement, but they don't really annoy me. They can be turned off if you hate talking during racing. I think it's fun for world building and what not. A sterile racetrack just doesn't feel as alive.

I would recommend this game. I had it sitting untouched for a long time, but am really enjoying the racing games lately. I plugged in my broken PS4 controller via usb and it plays smoothly. I NEED controllers for racing games, having started on N64's Ditty Kong Racing and MarioKart 64. I've played racing games for a long time, and I like this one for it's learning curve and fast paced racing.

My favorite vehicles are the heavy ones. It's been that way since the 64 days. I like something with weight to throw, because being too light just feels flimsy. Momentum is important, not just speed. Games where the heavy vehicles follow a certain physics can be played a certain way. And in this one, most of the corners aren't too sharp for a heavyweight to drift around them a certain way that I find immensely satisfying regardless of viability.

As far as skill goes, I am not great at the game. I am ok at best. But I am still progressing regularly and winning campaign matches. Meaning people who are racing game fans will be 100% fine playing this game. Anyone who hasn't played much, this one helps you understand cornering and physics, which is essential to racing. Anyone who is a driver IRL will think this is unrealistic, even though it's a fun game. There is a lot of suspense of disbelief involved in playing it. Especially when it comes to durability and survive-ability and some of the wonky physics stuff that doesn't translate well. Pileups and catastrophic crashes are rare. Most
high speed collisions you just bounce off, which is not at all realistic.

All in all, for a racing game it's enjoyable, and I have played it a good 10 hours at time of review. I would recommend this to anyone who knows better than to mimic the driving shown here on open road. The ability to discern that racing on closed tracks is important when judging whether you should share this game with your children. Even more so knowing that collisions in real racing are dangerous and terrifying. If you haven't been in a total loss accident irl, be thankful and stay mindful behind the wheel.

Controller setup was instant. No problems. It all worked plug and play, which is exactly what I was looking for.

Less bugs at this point. Has been running well.
Worth it.

Previous review:

Had trouble getting the menu buttons to react. Did some pixel hunting, then got sick of it and turned it off. This review is pending re-visit at a later date, because I didn't get much game time before it became unplayable. And I am sure it can be fixed later with some effort.

Current representation. Thumbs down. It's not a plug and play, which is what I expect when a corporation the size of Valve hosts content. (I know, I give them too much credit. But standards are standards even if Valve doesn't meet them. My Playstation plays it's games pretty well. My Nintendo plays it's games pretty well. No reason my Steam account should be any different.)

Overgrowth is a game that features 4 different main stories, and a large number of workshop stories and scenarios. It is all anthropomorphic furry characters, mainly rabbits. On my first day playing Overgrowth, I finished the main story(overgrowth), the prequel(Lugaru), as well as starting the third installment named Therium - 2 which takes place in a different world than the first two campaigns. I have not yet started the last section of the game, named Drika's Story.

What I've found from the story lines, is that they are distinctly different in style than each other. Starting on the second one is actually better off than the first, but doesn't matter THAT much. And doing the first two before playing any others is super helpful, because the others can be extensively difficult at times. Overgrowth, the main story line, was enjoyable. I didn't mind the writing and the story flowed well. It is akin to Watership Down, following it's mythology and morality closely. If you haven't read Watership Down, no need to fret. They add quotes to the loading screens so you can parallel the stories and understand their inspiration. Lugaru was equally matched to Overgrowth but a much shorter prequel.

Therium - 2 is just massive and different, but uses the same models and techniques. The story of Therium keeps you guessing more than the first two. The villain isn't as clear, and the morality of the story is more ambiguous. Never knowing who to trust, just knowing that you don't REALLY care as long as you make it through alive. It doesn't seem to matter what you do to who, or how, or why. You just do it. I'm sure the reveal will be worth the wait, but I'm tuckered out for today.

Mechanics of Overgrowth are easy to begin and challenging to master. The fighting becomes fluid and seamless as you play, but the platforming remains quite difficult throughout the main game. It proved to be more difficult to navigate the levels than fight the enemies. The platforming levels were so challenging that they took up the vast majority of my play-time. There were spots where I was stumped for a long time on which direction to jump next. It should be easier for literally anyone than it was for me, as long as you remember to look all ways before jumping, because sometimes the right way is not where you are looking. Fighting was easier by far. Although I am a cheap fighter, and exploit the jump+kick to great extent when dealing with enemies. It is much more efficient to take out enemies form behind using the stealth techniques. But jumping on their heads is so much fun I just can't contain my excitement. Bouncing around the map guard to guard infiltrating castles like a happy idiot completely at odds with the game's somewhat serious tone.Z

Motion sickness warning: This is a motion sickness game. It isn't always noticeable while playing, but can build up over time and hit you like a freight train when you finally stop playing. It isn't as bad as something like Dying Light, but is worse than something like MarioKart. That middle ground that might be alright for a lot of folks out there, but definitely got to me after a while.

Other than motion sickness and the platforming being infuriating at times, this game is just excellent. There are all sorts of mechanics to mess around with, and you can make weird things happen if you learn them well. Like my flying bunny technique when taking out guards.

I got it on Humble at some point, and recommend getting it on sale if you can. It's got plenty of content, as well as a large Steam Workshop with maps to enjoy once you finish the main game. And if you find it's too easy on reasonable settings, the harder settings get pretty crazy. And the community content contains some fun challenges as well. I am looking forward to playing this game more often.

Edit:
Therium 2 was an excellent storyline, and I love the choices. It was hard for me to find the ending I liked the most. I found it after completing every single other ending. I just so happened it was the last path I tried. Go figure.

Don't fret over what path you take first, you'll get to go back and take them all in time.

EDIT: And I hated Drika's Story upon first play through. Maybe it will grow on me in time, maybe not.

Edit: Fast paced. The battles are short, but extremely fast at the same time. You have to be ready to make choices and give orders at a speed I have never needed to in any RTS.

I already knew it was a fun one, having played it on PS4. My significant other introduced me to Mushroom Wars years ago, and I wasn't always the best at it. It was just too much for me when I first played it, but it was still super fun. I recently revisited the game with a fresh set of eyes and an open mind, and was able to beat it in about 4 hours.

For anyone who hasn't heard of the game. Mushroom wars is a real time strategy base defense game, where your objective is to overcome your enemy's bases. It is quite simple compared to it's genre, but it's also quite entertaining like the rest of it's genre. If you like real time strategy you'll like this one, especially if you were into all those old canyon defense flash games that used to be a thing.(RIP Flash, you had a good run)

I especially like the adorable art in it. But the music is easy on the ears as well. it all comes together to be one of the most inoffensive games I have ever played. It should give you about 3-10 hours of play time, but could take much longer if you try for the hardest setting.

I got this game on sale, and so should you. Keep an eye out for sales.
