I'm just here to give this app a thumbs up.

I used to use photoshop to draw pixel art but now thanks to this, my life is so much better.

Just completed Stage 3 so I thought I should make a review about this game.

First of all, as a "Touhou" fangame, this game is pretty easy so far, so I'm expecting something like New Game+ where there will be more challenge.
And second of all, this game is pretty linear for a metroidvania game, although some metroidvania elements are still there, like backtracking, exploration, collecting items and stuff.

Although despite all those things, this game is so much fun thanks to the unique mechanic, there are multiple ways on how you approach the enemies, either you want to do the old-fashioned style by just dodging and attacking, or you want to stop the time and throw all those knives, or just skip them and go on with your journey.

Now let's talk about the artwork and design, those smooth pixel art animations, Nitori's mecha, the water animation and everything, those are something that I really appreciate.
And also how they create the similar atmosphere to Castlevania, which are another reason why I love this game especially since I'm a pixel art and Castlevania (or Igavania) fan myself.

And then move on to the Soundtracks or BGM, well, I mean this is Touhou, of course they're amazing, what else can I say.

So yeah, despite being less challenging (so far) and pretty linear and short metroidvania game, this game is really worth the price thanks to the fun and unique mechanic, amazing artwork and soundtrack.

Definitely get the game if you like metroidvania and/or Touhou in general.

Go ahead and scroll down to TL;DR if you don't want to read this story about myself.

When I found this game on steam about 2 years ago I was thinking about metroidvania Castlevania with Dark Souls type of gameplay, and I was like "oh that sounds like a lot of fun".

I really loved metroidvania Castlevania, especially SoTN and Sorrow series, challenging bosses and fun exploration, it's always fun to explore new areas, combined with the good musics makes Castlevania a very enjoyable game (Underground Garden from SoTN is my favorite btw). Also, finding cool weapons is my favorite part of the game.
And then several years later I found Dark Souls, which is a challenging action RPG as you already know. I am by no means an expert player. I'm just a casual. I'm bad at video games. I'd rather read a bunch of Visual Novels simultaneously than play a video game that could make me throw my controller (which I won't, by the way), but Dark Souls is an exception to that, I had a ton of fun playing that game even though I died a lot, because of one thing, exploration. Just like Castlevania, it's always fun to explore new areas, except Tomb of the Giants, I hate that place, and maybe Blighttown and it's reincarnation called The Gutter. Still though, finding cool weapons and armors are also my favorite part of Dark Souls, sometimes you need a lot of grinding to get a weapon/armor that you want, but when you finally got it you're gonna be so happy that you can't really express by words how happy you are. Until you realize that you don't have enough stats to equip it.

Okay now let's not talk about that anymore.

Few years later I found this game and saw the trailer, then I eventually pre-ordered the game and played it on release.
I'm still at 3 hours into the game so my opinion probably doesn't count but so far this game is really fun.
This game has good soundtracks (hey White Rabbit, if you're reading this, please release a DLC for the soundtracks), and good voice acting.
And as you can see in the trailer and the screenshots, this game has really nice pixel arts, and that's one of the reasons why I bought this game.
The combat is what you would expect, it is like Dark Souls. It can be fun and frustrating at the same time, and that's the point.
To be fair though, this game is more casual friendly than Dark Souls, but that doesn't mean that this game is easy. (I've only beaten 2 bosses pls don't hurt me)
There's no weapon durability, and obviously since this game is a platformer game, you don't die from falling (but I haven't fallen from a 100m height in this game yet so correct me if I'm wrong), and when you die you don't lose all your souls, instead, you'll lose one feather, which basically is an estus of this game, and you can retrieve them all by going back to the place where you died or pay 100 or more souls from a death statue or bonfire of this game, also, there's no weight system, so you can build your character however you want without worrying about being too heavy to roll.
This game also has a Level up system that's exactly like Dark Souls', and other Dark Souls-inspired stuff that I probably already mentioned, such as, estus flask (Plume), bonfire (Death Idol/Statue), the equipment system, and then the combat system, such as, block, roll, roll attack, parry, guard break.
And there are of course non Dark Souls-like element such as, an equipment called Aura, which basically gives you buffs when equipped but it disappears when you die. Not forget to mention that since this is a platformer game you can jump simply by pressing just one button, but not only that, this game has a jump attack, basically an attack when you're in mid-air. And then you have talent and skill system based on your class, so unlike in Dark Souls, each class have their own thing. Then you can find tomes which basically gives you boon when you fight certain bosses. Then you have a horse so you can travel around faster because there's no teleport system in this game as far as I know. Also at some point, when you die, you don't go back straight to the last checkpoint/Death statue, instead, the game will show you some scenes before you go back, it is a unique way of story telling to be honest.

While this game is really good and fun, there's one thing that I don't like from this game which could ruin the most interesting part of metroidvania games for me, which is exploration, and that is, the "map". I heard that the developer were taking inspiration from Castlevania, but that's not the only reason, this is supposed to be a metroidvania game, and you know most, or perhaps, all of metroidvania games has a map feature, but this game, doesn't have a map feature.
I know that Dark Souls doesn't have a map feature, but this is a metroidvania game where the map feature is like the heart of the game, you want to complete the map, you want to explore the entire game, you want to see every corner of the map, and obviously, you don't want to get lost, you want to know exactly where you are. People who are bad with directions like me, knows that map is important in these type of games, so I hope the developer decides to add a map feature to this game sooner or later.
Nevertheless, this game is still really fun to play.

Now let's get to the most exciting part of this game, that's right, finding weapons, as I already said, finding weapons/armors are my favorite part of Castlevania and Dark Souls. So, unlike some other metroidvania games on Steam, this game actually offers a lot of weapons, there are 10 weapon types in this game. I'm not really a fan of Castlevania Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance, because you can only play with one type of weapon and one weapon only, the iconic whip Vampire Killer. It is fun to play with different types of weapon and not just use one type of weapon from the start till the end, playing with different weapon means playing with different style and that's what makes the game fun for me.
In Death's Gambit, you are going to have skills or abilities that you can only trigger if you're using the right weapon, for example, if you're an assassin, you can't trigger your skills unless you're using daggers as your weapon, but don't you worry, using skills is not that important, besides you can always equip two weapons, so perhaps you can equip your class' preferred weapon type as Weapon 1 and then equip any other weapon you like as Weapon 2. And that's what I really like about this game, build your character and play with your own style.

TL;DR I'll give this game an 8/10, because good soundtracks, good voice acting, nice pixel art, fun yet challenging combat, unique story telling, and weapon diversity, definitely worth the price. I'd give this game a 10/10 if they implemented a map feature though.

And that's it, thank you for reading this review. Also, since I'm not done with this game yet, my review might change in the future.

Good Soundtrack, definitely worth the price.
Unveil's English is kinda funny but it's still a good song to listen to.

came for the seiyuu, stayed for the good content.

So yeah, basically when I bought this game I didn't even know what kind of VN this is, all I knew that this is a mystery VN, has a female protagonist, the main character is voiced by Matsui Eriko (yes I'm a fan of her, in fact, I knew this game because of her), and the other main characters are voiced by some of the im@s Million Live's VAs and/or だれ?らじ personalities, I know it sounds stupid right. Didn't even know that this is a Battle Royale type of VN, and that's how I started to like this game more, because I also like Danganronpa and other similar works such as Mirai Nikki, 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors, etc.

Now let's head to the pros cons.

+ Good art, from character design to UI design, everything looks really good.
+ Good soundtracks. (also buy the DLC)
+ Nice voice acting, main characters are voiced by well-known VAs so it's expected, but the other characters are also well voiced, especially Mao, she's my favorite out of all side characters.
+ Multiple endings. (3 good endings and 4 bad endings)
+ Good story. (read the description and/or other reviews for more details, I guess)

- Some typos (this can be fixed, and not really a big deal).
- There is one bgm that isn't looped nicely, but it's not a big deal either.

Can't really say much about this game since there are other reviews that already explain what I wanted to say so be sure to check them out!
Thank you for reading this review.

Now that I finished Hikari's Route, I decided to write a review here.
Current Route: none, I've done it all~

First of all, A Sky Full of Stars is kinda similar with If My Heart Had Wings in so many ways, so if you liked IMHHW, surely you will enjoy this game too, so I really recommend you to buy this game.
Second of all, be sure to check out my IMHHW review as well if you're interested since the games are similar: My IMHHW Review

+ Translation Improvement, MoeNovel did a really nice job on improving their translation, it's not perfect of course, there are still some parts that aren't translated really well but it's not bad.
+ Beautiful art and relaxing musics as always. There are more animated scenes as well. I would love to buy the soundtracks too by the way, MoeNovel please release them just like what you did with IMHHW.
+ Long playtime, I was at 34.2 hrs of playtime when I first wrote this review.
+ Stargazing.

- I noticed some typos and there are some conversation that little bit off, I guess, I'll show you each one of them.

Screenshot 1[s25.postimg.org]
^ "Hirkari" huh...

Screenshot 2[s25.postimg.org]
^ The actual translation should be:
Hikari: "Hey, Sorami. Don't you think it's weird for us to call by our surname?"
Hikari: "Can I call you Akito?"
Akito: "That's fine by me."
Hikari: "Then, call me Hikari too, okay?"
Akito: "wha-"
Hikari: "Well, it's only fair, right? Houkiboshi is such a long name anyway."

or something like that, how was it, it's really different isn't it? If you played the japanese version or if you heard the conversation and you know the meaning you should notice this too.

Also, don't expect too much from MoeNovel, especially for R-18 Patch, the story is still great without it, I mean it's good if they'd offer R-18 patch but if they don't then let them be. I'm pretty sure there is fan R-18 Patch out there, I think.
Basically what I want to say is don't blame MoeNovel, keep the positive reviews coming, I'm sure they'll do better next time.

Now, review for each routes..
those numbers are the order how I finished the game.

1. Hikari - Most Memorable Route
I think this is the best route, the most memorable one, conflict between friendship was an interesting part, there was also a conflict when they almost lost hope of doing something big, the ending was also satisfying. Compared to IMHHW's best route, Kotori's route, though, I think Hikari's route wasn't as good.

2. Saya - Most Straight Route
This route is kind of route that you expect the ending would be, you'll understand once you finish the common route at least, everything went smoother than in Hikari's route, there was still little conflict but I don't think it was that much of a problem, for me it was kind of boring but some people may still like it, the ending was still pretty good though in my opinion, Also, Saya is cute.

3. Orihime - Most Romantic Route
This route had less conflict than the other two, maybe almost no conflict at all, but that doesn't mean the route is completely boring, it was kind of exciting, love between ordinary boy and lady-like girl, sounds cliche but it was truly romantic in my opinion, the ending was quite bland though, some people might not like it, but it was still good in it's own way.

4. Korona - Shortest Route
This was the shortest route out of all, I think, it felt like I put more hours in each other routes than this one, overall it was interesting, it was all pretty much about the protagonist that supports the heroine towards her goal together, the ending was also quite bland and probably makes you say "that's it?", that was my opinion though, some people might still like it.

For now this game still needs improvisation, and the dev seems active updating the game as well, so let's see how far this game can improve.
At first the game was a bit laggy for me (even the game opening was a bit choppy) but now I get a better fps, idk why, they didn't seem to improve the performance according to the update log though, but honestly I don't really care as long as the game become better.
Not like most of the reviewers here, I don't play Senran Kagura, so of course I won't compare this game with Senran Kagura or any other game in this review.

+ Good Beat 'em Up gameplay for you who likes the genre.
+ PC friendly controls.
+ Good Performance (scroll down and see the spoiler for more detail).
+ Dressing feature to customize your characters.

- No option to adjust default camera distance, the default camera distance is too close for me so I have to adjust it everytime the game begins.
- neither survival or challenge mode will give you exp, most likely you can only obtain exp from story mode.
- Changing Extar means nothing except their stats and relationship with the Liberator, I was expecting each Extar will turn into specific weapon (for example if you choose Ranka as an Extar, then the Liberator will use a sword as the weapon), if you watched the anime (VD -Mermaid-) you must be aware of this as well, but actually that was not the case, weapons are bound to their respective Liberator, so if you choose Rinka for example, she will just use katana/sword as her weapon, no matter what.

+/- not all people like this kind of graphic, I'm not talking about anime-ish styles, but that soft-shaded style that I'm talking about, since some people prefer cel-shaded style.
+/- boobs everywhere, I don't hate boobs but it just feels unnatural to see every characters has big boobs.

for now that's all I wanted to say, this review can change anytime, thanks for reading my review.

Don't get me wrong, I'm also a fan of both franchise (and honestly I just bought Berseria because of this DLC).
I love this DLC so much, but somehow I can't recommend this DLC unless you're a big fan of Idolm@ster franchise.
And I warn you, this review is mostly just a comparation between Berseria's Idolm@ster DLC and Zestiria's Idolm@ster DLC.
So let's get down to the pros cons shall we~(dance)?

pros:
- Unique costume design for each characters (this is a plus compared to Zestiria's since the Zestiria's based on ONE FOR ALL costume, and of course they're all looks the same.)
- Honestly Velvet really looks like Rin with this costume DLC, it really suits her.
- Attachment that make more sense compared to Zestiria's (again.)

cons:
- The Battle BGM for all characters are same (it's Onegay Cendrillion, also since Zestiria's have different BGMs for each characters, I think this is a minus for Berseria's, you know each characters that featured in this DLC have their own solo, so why don't use those as BGMs instead?)
- The Victory Fanfare doesn't change (yeah, only the Battle BGM that changed, Victory Fanfare still stays the same, and yes as you may guess, Zestiria's changed the victory fanfare as well, you know bandainamco, maybe you can change the victory fanfare with other song like Star!! or something, you have so many good songs from im@s cg.)
- In game, they stated that Velvet's costume is Rin's New Generation Style, NO it's not, it's Triad Primus style, maybe they made a typo or something, idk.
- this is more expensive than Zestiria's btw.

So yeah, I think that's it, despite all these cons, I will still HIGHLY RECOMMEND this DLC for you guys who really love idolm@ster franchise for supporting Bandai Namco.
Maybe this is the first Thumb down review for this DLC, I'm really sorry, you can rate this review not helpful if you want, but I guess you should read the whole thing first before you rate (but if you already came this far I guess you already read the whole thing aren't you?).
Thank you.

Berseria First Impression (compared to Zestiria)
So first of all I'm going to say I love Zestiria and I've spent so many hours on that game (maybe not as many as you think), I think it was one of the greatest Tales of games, and I finally bought Berseria which is a distant prequel to Zestiria.
There are some terms in Berseria that maybe similar or familiar to you if you played Zestiria, this is quite interesting because it's like the same concept but told in a different way, so you can also feel how those two games connect to each other.
In Zestiria you'll have a generic hero main character, yeah you know right? Like in all those classic JRPGs, but in Berseria you'll have the opposite, yup, an anti-hero main character who want to kill a hero character, so that's the most interesting part in my opinion.

Now let's talk about the pros cons shall we?

pros:
+ Better performance than Zestiria. (MUCH BETTER).
+ Combat is lot more fun than Zestiria because you can do a lot of attack combinations like in a fighting game.
+ You can also move the camera during combat now.
+ Have deeper and more emotional story than Zestiria.
+ Longer playtime.

cons:
- costume BGM only changes the combat BGM, victory fanfare is always default. (cmiiw, I don't know about other costumes but this did happen in idolm@ster DLC costume)

I think that's it for now, this review might change in the future because I haven't finish this game yet.
I've finished the game yeay, the ending was good, I like it, but for me that ending was rather dull compared to Zestiria's, maybe because I was expecting a bad ending just like many people said about this game, but no, it's not a bad ending, it was a good ending, trust me, and honestly Zestiria's ending was more sad than this game's ending, not gonna spoil anything though, but that's how I felt.

overall, this game have a deep and emotional story, and better control on the battle system, also the game soundtrack that always fit with the situation and control your emotion, this game is absolute masterpiece.

Also a tip from me if you haven't play Zestiria yet, don't play this game first, or you won't find the awesomeness of Zestiria and you'll just become a person who always say Berseria is much better than Zestiria, hell no, both games are good in their own way.
Why penguin called bird if they can't fly?
Because each birds have their own purpose and they are good in their own way.
