Finished my 1st playthrough so it's time to write a review.
For those who have never played Momodora, you might've heard of the game Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight.
This game is not that sequel, rather, this game is the sequel to Momodora III, with this, let me call this game Momodora 4.
But don't let this confuse you, Reverie Under the Moonlight is a distant prequel to Momodora 1, so technically it's Momodora 0.
Now that we got that out of the way let's start the review.

Read the Conclusion part of this review for tl;dr.

Gameplay
The gameplay is very similar to RUtM (Momodora 0), that game was the first game in the series that's considered souls-like, and Momodora 4 is no different, it's still very much a souls-like, even more so because they added stamina system, MP system, and autosaves.
Like in RUtM, you have two weapons, Maple Leaf and Bow, but they don't behave the same way, which makes sense, you can no longer charge your bow, and Momo will throw her Maple Leaf to use it as a boomerang-like projectile at the end of the combo.
Active Items are not a thing anymore, the only item you can use is the Healing Bell, which is not a consumable, instead, it just costs your MP to heal, but it's not broken since your MP doesn't regenerate over time, unless you have a sigil that can do just that.
Passive Items returns and is more expanded, in the form of Sigils, you can craft Sigils or you can find them throughout the map.
You can no longer warp from the bells, instead there's an NPC for teleportation, and it's not present in every bells, basically checkpoints and teleports are separate now.
Movement wise, you don't unlock double jump right away, and later on you can unlock sprint, which is something that wasn't present in RUtM, unfortunately there's no airdash in this game.

But the most important thing of it all, This game has Fishing!!
If you know anything about the developer, rdein, he plays FFXIV, and the fishing minigame is similar to that in FFXIV, but it's basically level 1 ffxiv fishing,
Tap to cast, tap when you see "!!", get the fish, very simple.

Oh, you can also pet the cats, you can even get an achievement for it!

Story
RUtM story was quite dark and tragic, but this one is brighter and more hopeful, that's all I can say, as the dev said the series has always been focused on action and minimal stories, so I'd say don't worry too much about the story, but if you do care, the dev have left you some notes in game that you can obtain at the start of the game which explains all the events that happened in previous Momodora games, so yeah, again, like the dev said, don't worry too much about "catching up"!

Music
It's very much an improvement from the previous installment, it might be related to how the story goes but this time the music has more "colors" to it.

Replayability
Now since I've only finished my first playthrough, I can't really say much about this, but after you beat the game you do unlock an alternate mode and an extra difficulty, and I think the alternate mode is different enough that it might be worth replaying, the game is short anyway, about 6-7 hours long.
Though I think the Sigils system is enough to make this game worth replaying, trying out different builds might be fun.

And after you beat the game, you can revisit the boss fights! I think this is an important feature for speedrunners who wants to practice and fight certain bosses, or for anyone who wants to fight certain bosses over and over again, since some of them are really fun.

Conclusion
Momodora: Moonlit Farewell, or as I'd like to call it Momodora 4, is just like Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight, but with Fishing, uh, I mean, it's a huge improvement over Momodora RUtM, with better looking graphics, more enemy varieties, more gameplay features, etc.

If you don't know anything about RUtM, it's a souls-like metroidvania game, and this game is no different.
And if you've never played a Momodora game before, I'd still absolutely recommend getting this, don't worry too much about the story, the game gives you notes at the beginning which explains everything that happened in previous Momodora games.

If you're a fan of Metroidvania games in general, try this game, this game might be short (6-7 hours), but it's packed with quality in every part of it.
Fluid gameplay, nice looking pixel graphics, and great soundtracks.

Early Access Review
Good Tactical FPS that I think is worth the price, only if you pick this on sale, you can definitely tell that the game isn't finished yet by the amount of bugs that you might run into, I always run into a bug whenever we play, albeit only minor ones, though sometimes you do run into a gamebreaking bug where the random obstacle placements trips you over, causing a softlock.

Other than that, well, all I can say is this is a proper CQB tactical FPS game, my only experience with tactical FPS is just Rainbow Six 3, so I'm quite impressed with the features this game has, like the random obstacle and objective placements that makes every run doesn't feel flat, the dynamic AI that is just as advertised, and other things that you can do in a real CQB situation, like utilizing breaker switch, tapping your allies' shoulder, shouting for compliance, etc.

For future updates, I want the devs to add more guns (I think this one is a very common feedback) like the HK416, AR-15, or pistols like M1911, more sights for the marksman rifles, and more daytime maps, currently there are only 3 daytime maps, even making an alternative of current maps is fine too, I'd love to play maps like Breaking Meth and Paradise City on daytime in co-op/PvE, maybe that way we can have a sniper enemy in Paradise City, making the map more challenging, from what I know there's only one sniper enemy in the game which is the one in Embassy Raid, so I'd love to have more of those unique enemies in the future.

Looking at how the developers seems to care about the community, I hope they would support modding for this game, even better if they add a workshop support, so the community can make their own maps, customize their own guns and maybe even customize their officers' appearances, though of course modding should probably only limited to PvE, or dedicated servers if that's going to be a thing.

Overall, I recommend this game if you want to play this with friends, maybe not much if you're solo, although it is still playable since there are AI mates. You might already have guessed if you have read this far, but this review is only for the PvE, I do not play PvP at all, but from what i can tell from other reviews though, the PvP for this game might be dead, personally I wouldn't get this if I only wanted the PvP.

Speaking as a Fire Emblem fan who have played Advance Wars casually I think this game is pretty solid.
It seems that the negative reviews came from AW veterans who play this competitively.

From a casual perspective I think this game is fun, it's easy to introduce this to new players who have never even touched a tactical turn-based before.
Having no difference between COs except for their abilities has its up and downs, on one hand the game might be lacking in depth as opposed to AW but on the other hand it makes the game easier to grasp for newcomers and makes it more balanced.

I also like having to not worry about Supplies like Ammo and Fuel, obviously they don't need that here.

The rock-paper-scissors and the critical mechanic is fun, especially in co-op where you really have to communicate about unit placements.

The only thing I don't like about the game is the ranking system which apparently is only determined by turn counts, so since I like to play slow and steady I kind of stopped caring about them at some point, and I thought might as well bully the opponent once I got the upper hand by taking all their bases and cornering their commander.
So even if I didn't get S rank at least i had fun.

So the campaign was pretty fun except for the fog of war maps cuz i just hate fog of wars, and the last map, which i won't spoil, just screamed Fire Emblem and I really liked it.
If you're looking to play this for the multiplayer you can go for it, as I said it's easy to introduce this game to people who never played tactical turn-based before, so get your friends and have some fun in Wargroove.

I've also been having a blast playing the co-op for this, it was a great addition to the game, I hope in the next game they can allow more people for the co-op, possibly a 4 player co-op experience.

So overall, this is a fun game, but competitively it might not be as deep as Advance Wars, though the online is dead anyway so I don't think you should even worry about that.
I'd also recommend getting this game to play with your friends, it's a great party game especially if your friends are also fellow tactical turn based enthusiasts.

Early Access Review
I don't often write reviews for games that's on early access.
but this game is already good enough that I can recommend this game to other people.
And I haven't even gone through everything this game has to offer, that's how good this game is already.

Now I love amusement parks/theme parks in video games, idk what it is but seeing theme parks in (multiplayer) open world games really excites me, like in GTAV and Tower of Fantasy, I also pitched the idea of making a theme park together in my friend's minecraft server and we did end up making it, I also bought the entire set of theme park furnitures in Project Neural Cloud, so maybe i just love theme parks, or perhaps theme parks are some of the best ways to spend time with friends, or maybe i just love the "minigame" feel of theme parks in video games, just like how I love fishing minigames in JRPGs and other games so much.

And out of all the above, this game has everything, It's essentially a virtual theme park with minigames and especially, fishing!
And I also love decorating/customizing rooms in video games like in stardew valley, minecraft, some gacha games like GFL and deresute, etc. And apparently you can do that too in this game, although I still haven't gone through it yet, gotta earn more in-game money to buy the things I need.....

So let's just go to the pros and cons:

+ It's a virtual theme park, I know a lot of people loves theme parks
+ Plenty of minigames, even in this very early development you can already enjoy so many things, and they're adding more!
+ Fishing
+ You can customize your own house/rooms
+ Workshop support
+ And a lot more other things that most likely the store page or other people already mentioned.

- Some of the minigames are quite jank, especially the Karting one, most of the times you'd be fighting the camera when going into sharp corners, unless you drift properly, which a lot of beginners would struggle with.
- as far as I know you can't make a private lobby in the minigames, I know this is kind of going against the point of the game but I feel like it would be nice to have that option, not only for personal use but also for community tournaments that might happen in the future.
- Some Audio feels.. Incomplete, there's no loud sound that the roller coaster produce, which kind of defeat the immersion, and some of the stages in the Karting Minigame shares the same BGM, though these are qutie minor issues that I personally have.
- Performance could be improved, though the fact that some low end PCs can run the game at this stage is pretty amazing.

Some features I'd like to see/be added:
  • More Fishes and Fishing spots please!!!!
  • Fishing competition minigame with different maps/spots
  • Workshop support on golf courses and maaaaaaaaaaaybe Karting courses.
  • More amusement rides
  • Wota/Penlight emotes
  • (Equippable) Penlight Items

That's all I got for now, I'll update my review if necessary.

Quick Review
To put this game simply, this is a JRPG with metroidvania and souls-like element, and edgy story.
this game was developed by the God Eater team, so just like God Eater was to Monster Hunter, this game has stronger emphasis on the story compared to Dark Souls.

Difficulty wise, as a lot of people say, this game is easier than Dark Souls, but that doesn't mean this game is a sleeper, this game can prove to be challenging, but fair, so don't expect to run and slash and win.
for people who hates reading and talking, you can skip the cutscenes, but if you do want to care about the story later on, you can revisit those cutscenes in the game.

I'd say just give this game a try, probably grab this on sale if you're unsure if you'd like this game or not.

Long Review
Gameplay
First thing first, I'd like to explain my initial statements in my quick review further.
A Soulslike JRPG
As I mentioned earlier this game was developed by the God Eater team, so I think instead of appealing only to Dark Souls fans, this game was more likely catered towards God Eater fans, or both.
Which explains why this game is more forgiving than Dark Souls.

For a starter, just like in God Eater, you can have an NPC partner in this game, which wasn't a main focus in Dark Souls, yeah you could have an NPC partner in Dark Souls as well, but they're not someone who you can bring with you for the entirety of the game, your partner can also interact with you in this game, so they're not just there and follows you around, but they don't talk too much either, it's just the right amount of talking.

Secondly, it's the leveling system, instead of individually increasing your stats, in this game you only have to manually increase your level. This leveling system is much more easier to understand for JRPG fans where the game usually automatically increases the level and stats for you by experience points.

Another point is the skill system, or the Gift system is what it's called in this game, skills like buff or just offensive skills in general are very useful in this game that it's almost mandatory to learn about them, but if you like the game to be much more challenging you can ignore these skills.

Last but not least is how this game handles the story, so instead of looking for lores in flavor text of the items or equipments that you got, or just by looking around the environment like in Dark Souls, the story is spoonfed to you in this game, it is of course not a bad thing, but I understand if Souls fans hates this type of storytelling, which is why I describe this game as a JRPG because it follows that same formula of storytelling.

As a Metroidvania
People might not realize that Dark Souls is a metroidvania because it only borrows few elements of the genre, but it is, and it's the truth.
But this game is much more obvious that it's a metroidvania, all the stages are interconnected, there are branching paths in each dungeon/stages, there is a map (which in my opinion is a required feature for a metroidvania), there are branching routes (albeit only for the first three dungeons, afterwards it's pretty much linear), and there are backtracking.
There are even border areas, something that Castlevania usually has, short area that separates two dungeons/stages.

Other than the level design, this game also has multiple endings, but unlike in other metroidvanias which if you somehow got the bad ending, you can reload your save, do the things required to get another ending and fight the boss again or something, and you get another ending.
In this game, once you see one ending, you can't fight the last boss again to get another ending, in fact, the pieces that matters for the ending starts when the game starts being linear, not going to spoil anything here, but it means that unless you go all the way back to that point, you won't be able to get another ending, which isn't really possible, so to get another ending you have to replay the whole game.
But luckily, unlike Dark Souls, you can start a New Game+ without increasing the difficulty, meaning you can restart the game while being overpowered, this is very useful for people who only cares about the story.

Another thing that I like about this game is, the variety of the weapons and blood veil (the armor), to me it's always nice to have weapon options in a metroidvania that it's almost important.
And more importantly the weapons for each types aren't just upgrades, it depends on your build, they all do different things and motions, and yes, I'm not lying when I said motions, each weapon behaves differently, so for example if you're more into offense build you might rather take the sword that's faster than the one that's stronger but much slower.

This game hits almost everything perfectly for me as a metroidvania, except for the stamina system. I like to casually speedrun a metroidvania sometimes but I don't speedrun games that has stamina system because it's a system that slows you down and a lot of times it makes speedrunning not fun, atleast for me.
Luckily in this game though, there's a technique which I like to call, Bayonet Backdash Cancelling, which is a traversal technique that doesn't cost stamina, and much like Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow's speedrunning technique, the Backdash Cancel, is something that's easy to do but hard to master, you can make yourself faster by doing this, but only if you do it correctly and precisely.

Story/Lore
I'm not going to talk much about the story here, but let me just say that it's a lot less cliche than I thought, this game definitely has its own thing, a lot of ideas that doesn't exist in other media.

Music
Okay, have you heard of Go Shiina? the GOAT? okay well, you better remember that name now, cuz he only makes bangers, and that includes the musics in this game.
But really, I love the music design in this game, especially the battle music, depending on how many the enemies are and how much in a pinch you are, the intensity of the music will change.
When there's only one enemy, the music is pretty quiet, and when you're surrounded, or if the enemy is really strong, or if you don't have a lot of health left, the music is going to be very intense.

Art
You really gotta appreaciate how much work has put into making this, some people might not notice and it's understandable, because everything just graphically feels natural, you won't really hear from someone playing this game who said things like, this game feels empty or the environment looks bad or stuff like that, from start to end, all the dungeon/stages were very well designed, especially the Cathedral, the motifs/patterns on the floor, the building design, it made the dungeon less stressful to explore. I just love all the design choices in this game.
Besides the environment, the character creation is also well made, it's much more detailed compared to God Eater's character creator, you can make (almost) any kind of hairstyle in this, making your favorite anime character wouldn't be as impossible as you might think.

Outro
Before I close this review I want to point out some things that I think are interesting, but beware minor spoilers.

Dark Souls II
I like to think that this game took inspiration from Dark Souls II, which is my favorite Souls game (don't @ me) so far, and I'd like to mention some of the similarities.
There's one dungeon in this game in which you're required to gradually falls down into a huge hole in order to enter it, just like that sewer in Majula.
Then the Cathedral, some people might say it's Anor Londo, but to me it's more like Anor Londo mashed with Tower of Flame from Dark Souls II.
Finally, the ending, I'm not going to explain further but if you know, you know.

Back to outro
nevermind, apparently I'm reaching the text limit, so just go grab the game.

Quick Review
Very cool old game, both singleplayer and Co-Op are fun, I haven't tried PvP yet, but it exists.
Online still works thanks to the community, just make sure you follow this guide, this game also 100% works on Windows 11.

(though don't ask me about setting up your own server because I can't get that working myself either, so I'd just play using Virtual LAN if I want to play privately with friends.)

I would also recommend getting the Supply Drops mod for more sights and so that you can attach both sight and a suppressor simultaneously, you can also have more guns too!

Long Review
contrary to most reviews here (I assume), I've never played this game before, nor that I'm an FPS fan to begin with, so I've got no feeling of nostalgia towards this game whatsoever, and therefore I can assure you that my review is not biased.

Introduction

so few months ago, before I got into this game, I picked up Insurgency because of mods and co-op mode after having it on my library for so long, and actually had fun with it, although it started off very tough as a non FPS player.

I used to like fast paced FPS games more, like CoD, Paladins, Titanfall 2, and more recently Shatterline, especially in Titanfall where you can make yourself feel cool, although I've always been bad at PvP, and I've enjoyed FPS games less because of that, since most of them are mainly PvP games, except for Shatterline i guess.

But after playing Insurgency (co-op) I realized that I might've enjoyed a more slow paced FPS, less action but more thinking, so I looked into other Tactical FPS, apparently today, in current generation, there are three pillars of Tactical FPS, Zero Hour, Ground Branch and Ready or Not, but unfortunately it's hard to convince everyone in my group of friends to buy a game that cost more than 5 dollars and takes more than 20GB of space.

And so I looked into the older games and I stumble upon this.
Apparently this and SWAT 4 were the go-to for Tactical FPS, and this game is very cheap when it's on sale, and more importantly, the online still works thanks to the community, so it was a no-brainer for me to pick this game up.

Prior to this, the only Rainbow Six game I played was Vegas 2, and I enjoyed that game, having played R63 now, I can say that this game is better than Vegas 2.

THE Review

This game is very fun both co-op AND singleplayer, which is something I did not expect at all since devs don't make games like that anymore, the usual combination is either PvP and Co-op or PvP and Singleplayer, and even then Rainbow Six 3 still have more singleplayer content than most of the FPS games with that combination, by not only having main campaign mode, but also custom campaign modes where you can also play on multiplayer-only maps, and now I believe there are modded/custom maps as well.

Where a lot of games nowadays only supports up to 4 players co-op, this game actually supports up to 8 players which is nice if you've got more than 3 people to play with.

there are couple of things in this game that I didn't think possible back in the day, or rather, I didn't think devs already came up with the idea back in the day, such as the ability to remove parts of the HUD, the door mechanic, planning table, and how the enemy AIs behaves differently.

In comparison to Insurgency where the AI always rushes in, the AI in this game sometimes holds their position, sometimes they walk around, and when they hear gunshots, they either run away or look for where the shots came from, sometime they also surrender, drop their gun and raise their hands, then you can also apprehend them.
When they spots you they either raise their gun, run away or throw grenade at you.
Just the amount of AI's behaviors alone in this game made me appreciate this game a lot, especially for an old game.

The Ally AIs are not sleeper either, most of the time they have good aim, but sometime they suck too, maybe because they're panicked, it's also nice how you can control the AI, unlike like I said in Insurgency, the AI always rushes in, so sometimes they would just be far away in the frontlines and it would be difficult to differentiate between allies or enemies, fortunately that doesn't happen in this game because you're completely in control of the AIs, even the groups that you don't lead thanks to the planning table.

And as I mentioned in my quick review you can install the Supply Drops mod, it works for both singleplayer and multiplayer, it allows you to have more sights and attach both sight and suppressor at the same time, which is something that isn't possible in the vanilla game, coming from Insurgency this is just the perfect mod, because then I can also disable my crosshair to really feel the realism or the tactical aspect of the game.

Thanks to the community, the online is still pretty much alive even though the official servers are already dead, you can also (allegedly) easily make your own server/lobby just from in-game but i have not succesfully done that, when I tried it my friends couldn't even find my server so there must've been some mistake.
But fortunately this game has LAN feature, something that usually isn't supported nowadays, so alternatively we can play through Virtual LAN, and we don't even experience lag, sometime it does but it's nowhere near unplayable.

Overall I think you should definitely pick this game up if you're looking for a co-op FPS game that isn't a horde shooter, and it's only 2 bucks on sale.

This game is very fun with friends.
one of the few competitive-style shooter that actually has co-op/PvE mode and supports more than 4 players.

plus it has workshop support, so you can have more maps, maybe swap some of the guns with other gun models or even change the player models.
Not to mention Day of Infamy was initially a mod that was made for this game, so yes you can also essentially play Day of Infamy in this game, so you get 2 games in 1 purchase, alternatively you can also buy the New World Collection bundle.

gameplay wise, as you may have known already, this game is pretty realistic.
from the gun physics, how there's no HUD that shows how much ammo you have left, no auto reload, and maybe many more.
so if you're a casual FPS player like me, or maybe even someone who's coming from something like CoD or CS, you might need to get used to how this game work, which might not take a while depending on how much you know about tactical shooters.
You might struggle at first to even stay alive in this game but once you understand the gameplay, this game is hella fun.

I've mentioned the Co-Op or PvE mode, but how about the PvP mode? honestly, I have no idea since i've never tried it, but reading from other reviews, apparently the community for this game is pretty toxic so I wouldn't really recommend getting this game for that, unless of course you just want to play with friends.

And if you're somehow concerned if you can play this game solo or not, you can have bot allies in this game, although I still wouldn't recommend this game if you do intend to play this only solo unless you're a hardcore tactical shooter fan or you have strong mental. And especially if you're just a casual gamer you might want to think twice about getting this game, if you really want to try then maybe just grab this on sale,
It's because the enemy bots don't mess around in this game, even if you play with 1 or 2 other players the co-op mode is still very challenging.

The only drawback this game has is just how complicated it is to setup a private lobby or session, since there's no main server where you can just make a private lobby, not sure if it's just an old game thing or source games thing or what, but you either need to setup your own dedicated server or if you want to make things much simpler you can play using Virtual LAN, I'd recommend using Radmin VPN since it's very easy to setup and you don't need to make an account for it.

Overall, I would recommend this game 100% if you're looking for a map-based Co-Op shooter game that isn't a horde shooter or about being a SWAT unit.
