The public matches are so-so, it really all depends on who is leading, as well as the map and theater you're playing in. The game is relatively biased in terms of the way maps are built, and tickets are distributed in favor of the CSA, which as a born and raised southerner is "cool" I guess, but it does take away from the competitive nature on some maps, where one side KNOWS they're likely to lose at match start. My suggestion if you're on the fence about purchasing this game is to buy it. The Devs will HOPEFULLY continue to bring massive updates to the game in the future, i.e Calvary, Horse Artillery, and new theaters and maps.
The thing I cannot stress enough is this, if you buy the game JOIN A REGIMENT even if you dont play regularly most regiments have a handful of guys that have been around for a long time and will help you with all of the intricacies of how everything works. SHAMELESS PLUG- Join the 8thCT for help with anything and to avoid racist/egotistical regiments who DO NOT care about you having fun and want to play god and boss you around. We bring 40 people on average to events, have separate infantry companies, a Cavalry company(for when it releases) as well as our own internal battery company. You could be as involved or dis-involved as you'd like. We want the game to grow first and foremost, and Egos seem to run rampant in this game.
