Arma 3 is something else. It's difficult to explain unless you've played similar games, but if you've ever played an RTS (Company of Heroes springs to mind immediately) it's as if you're playing as one of the units. There is something for most players, as long as you have the patience to look: Altis Life is more roleplay-oriented (but most of the public servers have questionable roleplay at best), and there are many organisations to join that have varying levels of seriousness for people looking for a more mil-sim experience. The best way I've heard it described is simply: Arma is like any other shooter, but it's for people who enjoy the banter and the stratagem between the battles, as well as during them.

Very good game if you enjoyed The Stanley Parable

It was a really good game until all of the textures crashed. Don't buy this game it is a waste of money
