The short review would be: Recommended to those who enjoyed Cultist Simulator, but not to those who aren't interested in fumbling around while trying to figure out how to play the game.

Because like Cultist Simulator, this game is an obtuse puzzle with many hidden mechanics, mechanics that can be discovered through exploration and experimentation. But unlike Cultist Simulator, Book of Hours does not require a constant loop of basic chores to avoid dying of hunger or being arrested by the secret police.

But what Book of Hours offers is a more methodical experience that lets you go at a slow and steady pace. Some tasks are bottlenecks like cataloguing/studying books (and other items), opening up rooms of Hush House or talking to people, where you can only have one of each in progress at a time. And most tasks take personal effort (opening rooms is an exception), which means you have to allocate an Elements of the Soul card to that from your limited pool, so you're limited in how many things you can do each day.

But those limits were also present in Cultist Simulator and can offer both good and bad gameplay.

The good happens when those limits add to the game in the decision making process: "Do I spend my card and action doing this task, or do I wait for this other task to complete and see if I can do something better then?"

The bad bits are when there's nothing you can do other than wait for another task to complete because you lack the resources to do anything else right now.

But at the core, this is another game about figuring out how to play the game and then figuring out what went wrong.

Extremely poorly written story mode that portrays fans as complete morons. On top of that all online functionality has been removed.

Avoid this and any other 2K games like the plague.

These devs really do not understand how to balance a boss.

The core gameplay is fun enough, but the game seems to be fairly unoptimized especially compared to previous entries in the series. If the Platinum edition was in the €20 range I might be inclined to tell people to try it out, but the current price is way more than you should ever consider paying for it.

The core gameplay is great, the bosses are obnoxious and unfun.

I'm certain this game is for someone, but I am not part of that group nor can I think of anyone I'd recommend it to.

While the basic part of the controls such as movement and button responsiveness works well, the platforming is bland and the combat feels very uninspired even if there is an attempt at putting some depth into it. And a big part of that is the combo system which is not well done compared to the competition (even if you only look at budget titles). The only interesting enemies are the bosses and mini-bosses, the rest are forgettable annoyances at best.

Then there's the weapons and artifacts. There's a ton of weapons and you can dual wield! Sounds awesome, right? Until you realize that weapons are merely stat boosts and don't provide new movesets. Same with the artifacts, pure stat boosts that at most also provide a minor buff like bonus xp or money.

But what truly makes me not want to complete the game is the story, characters and voice acting. There are interesting ideas there, but the execution is just poor. I can play through a mediocre game if the story is compelling and a bad game if the story is told well and the characters are interesting. But a subpar game with a badly told story? Not a chance.

Forged Battalon is a fun RTS game with a decent amount of interesting concepts and I was holding out hope that the devs would at least give it the final bits of balancing and polish it needed. Unfortunately they seemingly dropped the game completely around launch (and essentially halted all actual development a month or two before leaving Early Access).

This has left the game with an unfinished feeling, a bland and unevenly balanced campaing, the tech tree hinting at higher tech levels, and the balance between weapons and unit modules being nearly non-existant. As an example Rockets and Improved Armor (two Tier 1 techs) are the overall best performers, even when compared to the Tier 4 techs.

I would love to be able to have recommend this, but not with the devs abandoning ship and the game being in the state it is.

I don't have much nostalgia for the Dragon Ball series, but this game is fun.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition Deluxe feels like what the game should have been at launch. In February 2016.

Given that they want 70€ for it in January 2018 makes me unable to recommend this title.
