I recommend the game but having played it over the years id say the community feel has been lost slightly. Back in the day killing on sight was frowned upon and people were encouraged to use their mic's etc before opening fire.

Fast forward to now and id say only 20% of interactions include talking whereas 80% of players will just shoot you without engaging their push to talk at all. This can be very frustrating as in my mind there is many games on the market available if you just wish to run and gun. DayZ has lost its soul a bit and that blame falls solely on the community.

If you like survival then i say buy the game, but be prepared for the lack of mic use and being killed on site. Its a shame because back in the day the game was incredible.

*UPDATE*
This game currently is not what is once was. There is a split between 2 shards charlie and able, more wardens play charlie, more collies play able. Collies tend to dominate now.
This can be attributed to quite a few warden regiments getting tired of the imbalance of the game (Favour currently seems to swing the collies way). The collies have won the last 3 wars and tend to control most of the map within the first week or so. Wardens have become disillusioned with playing in a war they know they are destined to lose which is hard to blame them for (This game takes a lot of man hours).
The game currently has a population issue and in its current state i simply cant recommend it unless you want a one sided war for the forseeable future. I hope the game survives and flourishes back to a time when wars were close fought and if it does i will update my review but until then only buy if you are happy to play after this description. If you do then join warden. They need the numbers. Hoping siege camp can stem the flow of leavers

In a party with 2 friends. We get paired with 2 randoms. Half way through a comp match one of them randoms has an abnormal VAC etc etc so match is cancelled. So me and both my friends get 24 hour competitive cooldown. Even though the guy isn't in our party......

So just to summarise someone we don't know, who isn't in our party and are paired with totally at random is deemed to be cheating. So everyone in the team receives a 24 hour competitive cooldown.....

An absolutely shocking game feature. This game is actual aids and whoever decided that punishing innocent players with 24 hour cooldowns due to the behaviour of randoms needs to be fired and or burned at the stake. I would say don't waste your money but its free so i will say dont waste time downloading it.

I cant in good conscience recommend this game in its current state. I've been a part of the game for 3/4 years.

In the beginning it seemed reasonably simple. A game that was never going to win any awards graphically and wasn't particularly well optimised but had a good solid regiment based community of people who came together to play a game to engage in Musketry, Role playing, Tomfoolery and just generally have a good time.

Fast forward to today and it is a game where AGS seem to feel like releasing new DLC content is more important than addressing core issues which at this point are VAST. The issues currently that i have experienced are:

- Implementation of graphical updates (needlessly) that have major impacts on peoples in game FPS and general game stability.

- Regular crashes.

- Shocking load times

- A lack of urgency from the devs towards fixing core issues

- Shameless release of money grab DLC's despite the games current unstable state.

- The historic flop of the WW1 frontlines add on (Dead within a few weeks)

- Devs employment of people in useless positions such as "map designer" rather than maybe bringing someone in to help deal with optimisation issues.

- Rollout of UI updates when there was nothing wrong with it before.

Essentially every update over the last year at least has been a step in the wrong direction with some fixes rolled out months and months later and some not rolled out at all meaning the issues remain.

After 4 years or so in the game i uninstalled 2 weeks ago and have moved to war of rights. The early years were fun whilst they lasted but any game that eventually only serves to annoy you with its terrible optimisation and a dev team with selective hearing should we left well behind.

If you want my advice. Dont give these guys any more money. Buy war of rights and keep a firm grip on your sanity. Because if you buy this game it will be lost fairly quickly

Annoys me that a game full of hackers like CSGo is so popular and this game goes unnoticed. Brilliant realistic alternative to CS. Well worth the price. Basically just get it

The game does a great job of raising the tension and giving you that feeling that you are never safe. Its less of a jump scare game and more of a thriller which gives constant undertones of unease. Cant recommend it enough. Didnt think it would have much replay vaue but ever mission is different. Get it

This game can be satisfying but the lack of level matchmaking can make it frustrating for new players. The learning curve is steep and in multiplayer you are instantly thrown in with people who have been playing since day dot and know every trick, every block, and every finish there is. The dev's really need to add some form of process that allows the newer players to play together and keep the sweats out. Like i say i recommend this game but it certainly needs some balancing. just having casual and competitive is not enough as many high level players use the casual servers for easy kills which ruins the experience for many new players. The only reason i recommend right now is because im patient. If you dont have patience or find yourself being angered by lack of balance then this game isnt for you.
