Fantastic - if you enjoyed Steamworld Dig 1, this is a must buy. If you havn't played Dig 1, go play that first :)

Things I particularly liked:
- Music - catchy, pleasant, sinister and ominous when needed, otherwise upbeat.
- Controls were tight, and this has some light platforming challenges. Played with a USB 360 controller.
- Pacing was perfect, upgrades come right as you get comfortable with the previous upgrades. By the time you beat the game, your mobility and mining options are vastly different then at the start.

An all around upbeat, pleasant game. Sometimes you've maybe had enough of your everyday dystopian / post-apoc / zombie murder fest, and after a long stressful day at work all the grimdark ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is just too much. Games like this with bright palettes, pleasant music, and relaxing challenges are an awesome change of pace. Kudos for Image and Form for releasing another solid title.

After how ever many years of development, the team on this decided they were ready for 1.0, and I wish I could say I agree.

I've tried to give this a shot, but unfortunately this isn't ready for primetime. Issues I experienced just trying to poke around and learn the game in sandbox mode.

- Building anything other then a plain stone wall is an exercise in frustration. If you want a ramp you need supports, and if you want supports you need pillars of some kind, but guess what - there is no way to build a tall pillar without access to the upper parts, which requires a way to get up there - in the end you need structures to support the structures you need to build your structures. Onerous to a fault.
- Poorly documented - simple mouse-over information doesn't exist, so you can't tell what is needed to build a thing, let alone what it does.
- Incredibly poor player feedback. You create a job and... nobody does it. Why? Who knows! The game won't tell you why people aren't doing a thing. It got dark and everyone stopped working. Ok I said, maybe they won't work in the dark, ill make light pylons. The game will let me place some, but nobody is building them. Apparently I need the right workshop first but I couldn't discover this without first building ALL THE WORKSHOPS and checking the context menu for each to see who had pylons. Issues like this smack of what happens when your only feedback during the dev process was the developers, and diehard fans - i.e. people who know the game already. For everyone else, good luck figuring things out.
- Meanwhile I had no iron, but a rock face next to me with plenty. So I ordered a tunnel. Nobody built the tunnel. I tried deleting that and making a new tunnel. All the bricktrons run off to dig my tunnel... and the first guy dug one voxel worth of tunnel, while the rest complained they couldn't reach the tunnel. And then they stopped trying. This occured with 3 seperate attempts at this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tunnel, never getting farther then 1 cube dug.
- Fine I said, ♥♥♥♥ the tunnel. Lets dig a quarry, how hard can that be? It's just a hole in the ground. So I ordered a quarry dug. Nobody worked on it. I assigned workers manually. They walked to the spot of the quarry and sat down doing nothing.

Honestly ♥♥♥♥ this game. It's an exercise in frustration, with bugs colliding with an awful UI that doesn't convey enough to the player, so you'll be left wondering if you can't do a thing because you are missing a resource, or you hit a bug, or because you don't understand the mechanics. It isn't going to make it clear which is the case. God help you if you want to try and alt-tab out to research it - you'll need to sift through 4+ years of beta information, always wondering how much if any of what you are reading is still applicable.

Stay away, or at least wait for a few more releases. I would request a refund, but I paid for this 4 years ago when I kickstarted it.

Edit - On reflection, I'm probably a little harsh with my wording above. "F this game" isn't the most insightful commentary. That said, I wrote the above while angry and frustrated as a direct result of the issues I experienced, so there is something to that.

I really wanted to like this game, as I am a fan of Failbetter's writing and work, however I just felt like this game wants you to be able to jump in and learn from it, to go on adventures, and fail, and learn and fail and learn... but the economy is such that everything needs cash, and cash is incredibly hard to come by unless you are reading a guide. And I don't want to follow a guide for this, I just want to get in organically and enjoy :/
I bounced off this unfortunately, despite wanting very much to enjoy it.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I don't know how they did it, but they did it... they brought Doom back. Fast, frenetic, pressing, urgent, violent, and angry. All the cover shooter "hide until your health regens then pop up and shoot unless they are hiding then wait" stuff you are sick of? This has none of it. You run, always and forever. If you stop moving, you die. You run and you run and you shoot and run and shoot and glory kill and juke and jump and shoot...
It's awesome. Buy this game.

A fantastic strategy game that subverts the standards of the genre in some very pleasant ways. Many have complained that the nature of the game (the entire game takes place over 300 years, during which your heroes that fight for you WILL die of old age, as the average lifespan in this game is about 60-70) is such that you can never get attached to the heroes.

But indeed what is so awesome is that instead of getting attached to the heroes, you get attached to their families. THIS family makes some badass alchemists, and THIS family I can rely on to make great tanks. After 150 years of marriage choices, perhaps a family who made awesome heroes dies out due to some poor choices. Maybe a family of miscreants with crappy traits becomes amazing heroes after some good choices 100 years ago.

Meanwhile as family members have success in combat, they might christen their weapon a relic that is powerful and levels up, and can be handed down from family member to family member. Essentially what this game does is abstract away the individual heroes, leaving you more concerned with bigger choices that ensure that when heroes are needed, you will have them in quantity.

Fantastic. They don't make single player experiences like this anymore. It's a shame this didn't sell well enough to warrant the sequel they wanted to make.

A very cool and decidedly unique strategy game from Spacechem's Zachtronics. Ignore the metacritic rating (seriously what is the point anymore of metacritic?) and give this a try if you are intrigued by the premise and mechanics. This game is definitely not for everyone, but if it seems interesting, you'll most likely enjoy it.

A pretty nice change of pace for the ole' tower defense genre. If you hear "tower defense" and just groan, this game likely is not for you. However, if you've enjoyed the genre in the past, and think you might have more left in you, but maybe are bored of the usual formula, give this a shot!

Gameplay is as follows:
- you build a ship, hex by hex, supplying turrets, missiles, shields, and power.
- your ship launches and travels a straight line path from A to B. Your job is to make it to B as intact as you can.
- on the way, you will be assaulted by all manner of ship and asteroid strikes, hoping your turrets and shields etc. can adequately defend you.
- Providing further depth and keeping with the theme, your job is also to transfer cargo of various kinds from A to B, getting more cash the more cargo you deliver intact. Each cargo takes up valuable hexes on your ship with various mechanical complications, like cargo that MUST be placed on the vulnerable exterior edge of the ship, or cargo that drains power from all adjacent hexes.

I was definitely very happy with this out-of-nowhere indie TD, at full-price no less.

Awesome and charming platformer. Digging mechanic is fun, the progression through underground worlds is cool, and the little plot is neat. Upgrade system is also very satisfying. I completely finished this game which is more then I can say for 75% or more of my collection.
