An awesome storyline companied with fluid hand-to-hand combat in an entirely new culture, Chinese mixed with British markets in Hong Kong in an open world environment. Gunplay is standard cover-to-cover with hand-to-hand combat the primary means of combat.

Although the storyline is amazing, the combat is actually extremely easy. In reality, all you have to do is parry every time an enemy attacks you, and you will not take damage. You can even get a little aggresive by punching a few times, and instantly parry an attack while you are mid-swing. Driving combat is the same way because time slows when you are aiming at an enemy, and all you have to do is shoot the wheels of the enemy vehicle to instantly destroy it.

Some cons about the game include the driving camera and drifting. If you find yourself backing up in a vehicle you will find your camera moving in front of you so that you can see behind you. Although it may be useful in some games, the way United Front implemented the driving camera makes the camera jerk all over your screen. The camera will only move when you press W or S, so if you let go of the S key to drive backwards to let the camera settle, it will actually settle facing forward as if you were driving forwards.

Drifting is another problem area that United Front did not implement correctly. At times you will find yourself at high speeds, trying to drift around a corner or burnout 180 to turn around. For some reason, I find myself stopped sideways instead of continuing my drift. At that point, I have to let go of all controls and then drift or turn another 90 degrees to do a full 180. At high speeds, they just stop your drift half-way, almost like you're actually turning the opposite direction than you're pressing.

On the DLC front, both DLCs were simple and can be completed in under an hour. Both follow a very similar path, having to chase someone down, go to three locations before moving on, go to another location to uncover the leader's location, and then defeat the leader. The only difference is that Year of the Snake is mostly gun play while Nightmare in North Point is mostly hand-to-hand.

Regardless of the few cons of the game and the easy combat, the game was very fun to play and I really enjoyed seeing Hong Kong in video game form as that is where I was born. I would suggest this game to anyone who enjoys an open world environment such as Grand Theft Auto or Saints Row and who wants a quick single-player game.

A gem of a game and a good review.
