It seems to me that the developers have really turned it around since that first disastrous launch.

This game is merely satisfactory. This is probably the thousandth review with this pun in it :)

The concept and mechanics of the game are interesting, but it's ultimately marred by bad controls, buggy behavior, and a sense of grinding without any progress.

This game may have been original 7 years ago, but playing it now nothing is new. The graphics are reminiscent of Medieval Engineers or Space Engineers, and just like those games it will probably go straight from Alpha to "Finished".

Bug prevented me from completing the game. Bummer.

Great game for learning the basics of sailing.

Pretty good game. The folks that I've matched up with using the new auto-match feature have been surprisingly professional.

Good game, if short.

I love the works of H.P. Lovecraft, which makes this recommending against this game even harder. But if you're looking for a worthwhile adaptation of his work, look elsewhere. Some of the issues that irked me:

* Using madness/lack of sanity as a cover for sloppy writing. At one point early in the game I insulted a police officer to his face. The next scene had him chauffeuring me around like I was the police chief.
* Dated graphics. This game was released at the end of 2018, but the graphics are more in line with 2008 (For reference, Fallout 3 was released in 2008. Call of Cthulu and Fallout 3 look like and play like they could have used the same engine).
* Long load times between levels. I've got an SSD, but levels routinely took minutes to load.
* Short story line (I finished the game in 5 hours, half of my playtime is from just leaving the game running while doing something else).

Solid starship building mechanics. The path to unlock new technologies was just interesting enough to keep me going through what were otherwise repetitive shuttle away missions.
