Early Access Review
bought this right before the news broke. this game should be de-listed from Steam and Valve should reconsider Private Division's and Take-Two's eligibility for the Early Access program. unbelievably mismanaged and eventually totally killed for "not meeting expected financial benchmarks". the entire dev team (whom were allegedly mostly newer, more inexperienced devs) was laid off so the CEO could give himself a raise.

do not buy under any circumstances! you will NOT get your money's worth. go play KSP 1 or check out KSA instead. there's no competency to be found here, nor will there be any future updates.

the best game i have played in months. that is not an exaggeration. when i'm not playing helldivers, i can't help but think about playing helldivers. launch issues aside, this is how games should be made.

...anyway, are you REALLY just gonna sit there while child eviscerations are at an all-time high across the galaxy? or are you going to suit up and do something about it like a true patriot?

Great space and economic simulator that allows you to grow at your own pace. Interesting lore, pretty sectors, and decent mission variety. It's a 4X game in a space sim's clothing. At this point it feels like a polished sequel to X3 with some nice features (like walking in ships and stations) from X: Rebirth.

Overall, the game feels like a good mix between Elite: Dangerous and EVE Online. They're reworking Ventures soon (with 6.00, I believe?) to give the game some light multiplayer elements (you will not be able to directly play with friends, only see their ships they send into your universe) and it seems like Egosoft is still planning on spending a lot of time further improving X4.

one of the only modern games that gives me the same nostalgic feelings as playing something like old school runescape or ultima online. i've encountered some spells and rituals that i can find absolutely nothing about online, so i'm sure this game still has some secrets that haven't been spoiled by the internet yet

unbelievably entertaining. other reviewers said the other factions played very differently, but i didn't expect nearly this much variety in terms of both content and playstyles. it also has some of the best large-scale necromancy gameplay i have ever seen. it may look intimidating, but the core gameplay loop that (nearly) all classes share is actually quite easy to learn. from there, the game keeps opening up in unpredictable and really fun ways. take it slow and purposefully get yourself killed a few times so you can see how combat and the enemies work. mages are usually very strong in CoE and dominions, so try not to underestimate enemy spellcasters

the fantasy setting is also really cool, consisting of mythologies and magic systems from around the world and a huge roster of units, each with their own flavor text and lore. i haven't tried multiplayer out yet, but it seems like it could be really fun, especially if other planes get involved. turns also appear to be asynchronous btw

The new UI and graphics make the game infinitely easier to understand. Still insanely complex, but that complexity is now presented in a much nicer and user-friendly way. Absolutely worth it at full price, but Classic is still available for free on their website and should be getting simultaneous updates alongside the premium version.

the stuff that happens on earth alone already makes for a pretty good grand strategy game, but the space content feels like an entirely separate game. having aliens and six other human factions colonize the system alongside you makes for really fun and interesting gameplay

it's a bit early in development right now, but what's here is promising. i can't wait for the expanse mods
