If you thought Don't Starve Together gets grindy, think again. I've been playing for about 9 hours and only now I managed to build myself a decent base, to protect against those occasional pesky invaders. I only have one monkey, but he gets the job done running most of the stuff around the base, while I'm out gathering resources.

It's a fun game if you like grindy, cartoonish base building survival games. Worth a play, but not worth buying on full price.

Having sunk a little over 250 hours into this game, I can say that it's quite worth it IF you're into games like Don't Starve Together, Green Project or other similar titles. I loved the theme of the game, the vast research tree and the many many items you get to build and use throughout your playtime.

One thing I must warn you about is the pace of the game. I've played mostly PvE and all I can say is that perhaps my last 50 hours of gameplay have been a slow and annoying grind for resources, items and events, in order to complete the game and get all of the available achievements.

So if you're looking for a fun, non-challenging survival game to chill with for a couple of hours at a time, go for it. You can always just focus on agriculture, fishing and cooking instead of going after boss events or other animals that are out there to nom nom you :3

Bought this for gf to play while I'm not around. She just finished it and said she wouldn't recommend it, "not even on sale!"... I guess buyer beware(!)

So after only 90 minutes of playing the story mode (single player), I can say that this game is A LOT OF FUN, but feels super grindy solo. This is a call-out to my friends, get the game so we can have fun collecting trash together! XD

TLDR: Get the game if you're nostalgic about the 2009 release of the Drawn series. Get it on sale if you've never played the original. You're welcome.

Sooo... I do recommend the game, although if I were to use a star rating, it would be something like 3 out of 5. If you've played the original game, this is going to be a nice nostalgic trip. Otherwise buyer beware.

The visuals are amazing, just as I remember from the original game, with some added content, as you'd expect from a remaster. It does look beautiful when played on a large display (I streamed it on a 4K flat TV).

HOWEVER, what I seem to have romanticized about the original game is the story. Revisiting the game, the story has so much potential in the beginning (just watch the trailer), but falls short quickly after. Seriously, the main plot could easily be turned into a Netflix mini-series for kids/teenagers. Anyway, I bought the game mostly for my girlfriend to play while I sit there useless and watch and all I can say is that 20-30 minutes into the game, she was already skipping through the dialogues just to advance and finish the game. Not a cool experience if you consider the $14 price tag. Currently I could've gotten Cyberpunk or FarCry 5 for the same money... Not to mention that even for a casual player like my gf, you burn through the main story + bonus chapter in 4 hours, including toilet and nom nom breaks.

The "Updated interface and improved hints system" are definitely referenced to the original game published back in 2009. They're the standard Big Fish Games studios UI and gameplay mechanics. If anything, the playtime is extended needlessly by THE LACK OF A F****G map. How do you not include a quick travel system in a HOG with several rooms?! Jesus Christ.

Perfect game to chill with after a long workday.

Came for the art style, stayed for the mechanics. Lovely little game for my collection of "Chill after work" games.

If you're a filthy casual who likes harvesting corpses for burger meat before bringing them back to life only to enslave them on your farm or in the mines, then this game is perfect for you. If you feel bad about chopping down trees for profit and would rather abuse zombie lumberjacks, then this game is for you, too. If you like talking to alcoholic disembodied skulls and marxist donkeys, this game is for you, too.

All in all, a fun, but slow and grindy game.
