ChromaGun is a charming experience. The pacing isn't perfect, but it explores its concept as much as one could hope and doesn't overstay its welcome too much. Some of the music is genuinely beautiful. It's an overall enjoyable experience that I can luckily recommend.

Half-Life: MMod is a much-appreciated change of pace for longtime Half-Life fans. The updated weapons are immensely satisfying, the graphical enhancements are largely tasteful, and the new particle effects are outstanding. Although the new enemy placements leave much desired, they go a long way in making the experience fresh. Half-Life: MMod's inclusion of the Half-Life: Uplink demo and the USS Darkstar mod makes both more accessible to a broader audience. Although nothing could ever replace the original game, there are doubtlessly many who prefer this more modern approach to the gameplay.

Signalis is my new go-to example for video games as a form of art. The story is as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking, the gameplay is excellent, and the game's aesthetic is beautiful and unique, and the music is simply fantastic. The game leaves me wanting more; I cannot recommend it enough.

Iron Lung is an absolute masterclass in horror. The atmosphere is some of the best I've ever seen; even after learning how the game works, it still feels like you're stuck in that submarine. The game applies tension one layer at a time, slowly building throughout the experience, and the gameplay perfectly complements this. I'm so glad that Iron Lung has gotten the recognition it deserves; it leaves me wanting more and doesn't overstay its welcome.

Codename: Gordon is a charming Flash game despite its age being quite apparent. True to Valve fashion, it uses all of its mechanics effectively in its brief length, resulting in an airtight experience. The art direction is quite good overall, and the gameplay is solid. It's a shame that its delisting has significantly limited the accessibility of this hidden gem; I cannot recommend it enough for those curious.

Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall 2 has love bursting at every seam. The movement is fluid and quickly becomes second nature, the campaign is endlessly charming, the level design is pristine, and its plot is compelling. Its peaks are sublime and plentiful, and the worst it has to offer is still perfectly competent. Although the multiplayer is no longer supported, the free Northstar client is easy to install and resolved every issue I had. I cannot recommend this experience enough.

The Halfquake Trilogy successfully satisfied my masochistic requisites. All three experiences in this collection are exceptionally well-made and provide a robust sense of atmosphere. Every entry is charming and creative, always finding a new and unique method of unleashing pure, unbridled sadism upon the player. It's become my absolute favourite Half-Life mod, and I cannot recommend the experience enough for those who aren't afraid of quicksaves.

I went in expecting catharsis and came out empty-handed. Although Headcrab Frenzy is a perfectly competent mod with pleasant graphics, the grind is the only remote substance the gameplay has. I'm sure it's a lot more fun if played with friends, but once you've played the first few levels, you've seen all the mod offers. Unfortunately, although charming, this mod is not one I can recommend, especially if you're a perfectionist who can't help but to achievement hunt.

Although I tend to stray away from incomplete products, Half-Life: Absolute Zero ceased development some time ago, technically qualifying as a final version. What we have now is all we'll ever have, which is a shame, as this was one of the most promising Half-Life mods I've ever seen. Rather than reproducing the Half-Life Alpha exactly, this mod takes inspiration from it, adding a unique flair to everything and making the experience memorable. Despite the issues expected from an unfinished project, I enjoyed the mod and was left wanting more.

Although it's neat to see some cut features and sequences reincorporated into the game, it's an objectively worse way to play Half-Life. Valve removed many of these features for good reasons; the significant changes interrupt the game's pacing or just flat-out aren't fun. I'd be significantly more forgiving if this mod only reimplemented some small animations missing from the final product with an optional configuration menu for the more extreme changes. However, unfortunately, I cannot recommend Half-Life: Restored at this time. I can see the potential glimmering from within, but significant changes must occur for it to shine.
