In good conscience I can't recommend this.

1. It feels like a Y7 DLC instead of a full game. Lots of reused content and assets.

2. Lacks that charming goofiness Y7 had. Has its moments but isn't as good as its predecessor.

3. STILL has a boring dungeon design.

4. Japanese/RGG levels of grinding for its minigames, which are less interesting this time around.

5. Dondoko island / Manaagement minigame isn't fun.

The experience may be rewarding for long time RGG fans, but as someone who has only played Y:0 and Y7, and only watched others play the other installments I strongly do not recommend.

Maybe get the ultimate version on 70-80% sales. Get Metaphor: ReFantazio instead if you're craving a JRPG fix.

Good game if you enjoyed the Persona series. Solid JRPG.

Most of the negative reviews touch more on graphical fidelity and optimization issues. Try out the demo first if you're on the fence about the game. Demo's a 1:1 mirror to the base game (prologue + free roam for 3 in-game days + a few side quests) in terms of optimization so its a great way to gauge out your expectations on the game.

There is no romance or so I've heard, but my guy do you really need a virtual relationship to fulfill your romantic fantasies?

*Postgame update : My personal GOTY, easily in my personal top 5 modern JRPG. IMHO needs work in the level design department, an issue I encountered even in P5R and P3R. Feels like a slog to go though them in all 3 games.

Didn't enjoy this one that much. Not quite at a Chained Echoes, somewhat below Sea of Stars (which I didn't particularly enjoy).

The other negative reviews gives more in-depth constructive criticism so I'll leave it to them.

This had potential. Final Fantasy WAS a good franchise, but the franchise felt lackluster beyond 11. 13 was decent overall (4/10), 15 could've been good (bugs, issues with the PC port, rushed story, wonky combat, etc. Really wanted to love 15 but eh, i'll give it a 5/10). TLDR, get it when it's over 50% off. Don't make devs think its ok to dish out this quality of games, it'll become a norm. Hope 7 remake would live up to its hype.

Editing my original review a few hundred hours later, this game's overwhelming at first, but in due time when u land them epic 360 hedshot wallbangs MLG replays it gets you hooked like a blowjob.

Then again, it makes me wanna puke and die during my bad days.

Has good potential, but a word of advice, ik quickplay is more fast paced, but for the bounty hunts, its a camping simulator. Wouldn't recommend at current state.

Edit*: The community is a living digital reincarnation of cancer. One of the worst online.
