The free version allows you to play either against 2 bots, or 2 random people online, or 2 friends.
In this version the board is always the default layout.
If you buy a version of the game or use 1 of 7 unlock scrolls for the day you can play with more people and play expansions.

Pro's:
Free, can play with friends, looks great, if someone leaves a match they are continued by an AI, always lots of people online

Con's:
Continual connection issues with all players in a game, poor implementation of turn timeout, poor karma implementation for disconnecting/leaving a match, the AI doesn't trade on your turn and spams you on theirs, the game log of actions is unreadable
