Early Access Review
If you've tried the newer roguelikes and wondered "Why don't they make em like they used to?" then Tiny Rogues is the answer; managing to bring back the classic feel that we really only get from a few games like Enter The Gungeon or Binding of Isaac.

Each run is varied by character selection and a vast array of weapons, equipment and abilities that synergize naturally. It has meta progression but that is not a blocker to completing the game or developing unreasonably powerful builds provided you have the skill

This is an early access game, contrary to popular belief.

The game was made to look pretty at first glance but there is very little substance beyond that. The gameplay loop is mostly: Babysit cultists -> upgrade your Lamb -> Yada yada your way though boring dungeons hoping to get at least a few almost-good items, making it somewhat enjoyable -> return to base before your followers die or rebel due to neglect because they can't do &#%$ on their own.

If you really wanna spice it up you can play a VERY rigged dice game with the tutorial instructor (Note: This seems to vary by player, but in my experience I was not allowed to win profitably if playing for gold until I made progress in the game), or you can relax by the shore and fish for the 2 minutes it takes to catch them all. There are also a few side quests that don't usually require you to do anything you weren't already doing anyway.

Overall, this game is nice to look at but also a very unrewarding collection of unrefined mechanics borrowed from other games. The in-game Roadmap is just a message that promises free updates. Even if you're the type to bash all haters, how do you explain that in a game being sold as a finished product? As an early access title it has potential and if you are into micro managing things or don't mind doing it for just long enough to max your stats and burn through the game, I definitely recommend it. If you want a base builder in which you're always working towards some significant goal, or a roguelike that has you excited for the loot you'll get on your next crusade then I am sorry.

Base Building

At first I was optimistic, thinking that the beginning trudge was leading to something fun but CoTL failed to deliver.

The main objective of the "Base Building" is to construct a daycare to allow your devotees to perform basic functions such as cleaning and pooping in a toilet. After finally getting those basics handled you will find that you still have to manage the poop and occasionally clean up after them. You also have to manage their beds which fall apart once in awhile because why not?

Farming is also a huge fruitless hassle. You have to unlock 2 buildings to make them somewhat self sufficient with it. One to allow basic farming and one to enable harvesting. The payoff? You now only have to worry about refilling the seeds every few days and also cooking...Which followers also can't do for themselves. At all. At any point. You have to enjoy it for the tedium to enjoy it at all.

After you've completed your daily chores and performed your daily sermon and interaction-with-every-individual-follower you can finally hit the dungeons; during which your followers will have begun their rapid descent into sickness and death since their babysitter has been gone for literally 1 day which is also about 10% of their lifespan...

Combat

The combat feels very nice as it's very responsive, but the enemies are very simple and only become difficult when fighting a large number of them. Fighting a large number of enemies is still only minorly challenging because it's hard to see anything through all of the flashing and enemies blending in with the environment. If it weren't for area access limitations, any decent gamer would be able to ignore almost every part of this game and just sprint through it all on the first or second try.

The items are 90% trash. Most of the four and a half weapons aren't fun to use and the upgrades/tarot cards are meh/10. The magic/curse powers are all variations of 6 or so skills. Only a few of those base skills are really worth using but you can theoretically get a decent combo of abilities and cards that will make your massacre of everything in the dungeon more fun.

The bosses all have predictable attack patterns... This is primarily because they only have 1 pattern each.

Conclusion
Considering the 89% positive reviews as of this writing, I am the tasteless one. If you've read this whole thing, I hope I didn't ruin the fun because It isn't BAD it just seems like Cult of The Lamb was made to be more marketable than enjoyable. I hope it's success thus far will support the work required to turn this into the game we were sold.

This was the king of VR until the latest updates. now hit registry is awful and I have to re open the app until it decides to stop lagging. It's the absolute worst when your going sick on a song and start missing blocks you definitely hit. It also seems like the hit scores are lower. I'll focus on striking everything perfectly yet still fail to get SS on songs I used to consistently ace, and this is assuming random lag or hit registry errors don't occur

UPDATE: The latency and scoring are fine now. Hit detection still stinks worse than a dozen rotten eggs dropped in a vat of vinegar

This game has potential, and at the discounted price is definitely worth buying. The skull system adds a level of depth to the gameplay that raises the skill cap as you can get better with timing swaps strategically, and improving with the unique play styles required by each skull.

The items all have satisfyingly significant effects and would likely allow for the occasional overpowered run we all enjoy from other games like gungeon and binding of isaac.

What I don't like as of now are the level designs. it can be difficult to maneuver with certain loadouts, causing you to take nearly unavoidable damage. The same goes for hordes of enemies and certain mini bosses/ heroes. My next complaint is more of a personal preference: Having to fail forward. I just feel like a roguelike game shouldn't use death as a vehicle for progress. ex. having to collect some number of points to buff your stats enough to make progress reasonably easy

Overall, with a few balance and design changes this game may not be the next Iconic roguelike/roguelite but will still shine because of its unique style and flow

The art style and story of the game are great but after a short time everything begins to feel like a chore. the last 2-3 bosses have such an insane amount of health that the fights just drag on. the game as a whole seems to hide the lack of actual difficulty by buffing the health of everything and adding environmental hazards. It's worth buying if you're into the attrition based combat, but I personally think a rogue lite should be about fast paced, skill based combat

I wasn't able to get very far, but here's how my experience went:
Combat was enjoyable, but can get old pretty quickly. I like how the abilities are all stacked without forcing you to reassign/choose only a few. Then upon unlocking the Dominate CAPTAIN ability, I went on a rampage just to find that although you have the ability you don't get to use it on captains until one of the following missions. Then, for me, the game began crashing constantly. no solution worked, and reinstalling a 100 gig game is something I'm not gonna do. The game seems promising storywise, but since I can't actually finish the game, its a no from me.
