Steampunk is one of those settings I love, and Lies of P utilizes it brilliantly in both its environments and enemies. I loved exploring all the game's chapters and never felt like ideas were being recycled lazily.

The weakest point of the game for me is the main bosses, although I still enjoyed all of them. Some bosses can make you feel unfairly punished due to weird telegraphing. However, they are all visually cool and provide the rewarding sense of achievement you're accustomed to if you've played a Souls-like before.

The way you build your character allows for a lot of creativity. Non-unique weapons can be separated into two parts: blade and handle. You can mix and match different weapon blades with different handles, enhancing them to better complement the stats you're investing in. Stats function like a traditional Souls-like—you earn points by defeating enemies and allocate them to attributes such as health or stamina.

For a first entry into the genre, the studio has done an incredible job, and I can't wait for either a sequel or the upcoming DLC to refine the formula further. The developers seem receptive to player feedback on social media, which is a strong positive indicator to me that they'll address this game's flaws in future titles.

This game has extremely fun combat, possibly even the best. You will feel sluggish and incapable at the start but it's easy to learn how to juggle enemies in the air and get higher higher skill rating in each fight. There is a pinch of challenge in the mixture as there are new enemy types & bosses introduced throughout.

Level design in terms of navigation and exploration is good enough but nothing to write home about, but visually there are plenty of unique and interesting spectacles.

My first 60-70 hours going for 100% achievements were a blast and I never felt like I hit a skill ceiling with any of the four characters, but moving on past that was honestly torture. Playing through the game on "Dante Must Die" is made unfun by a mixture of increased enemy health (felt like 2x on every enemy) and a mechanic that allows all enemies to increase their attack and defence by a huge amount on top of the health increase, which will have you in some cases hitting the same single enemy for upwards of 2 minutes without a break, which not only gets boring fast but kills your potential for putting fun combos and kills pacing.

Bloody palace is a great mode for improving your skill and just for smacking enemies or bosses around, as well as providing a great challenge.

The story itself is decent, but dialogue can be unbearably cringe at times. It's obvious that they don't take themselves too seriously in the writer's room and they clearly want it to be silly, but the charm is easily broken when you go too deep into the silliness. This doesn't ruin the game by any means but you will feel physical pain at some lines.

It goes without saying Nero's and Vergil's battle themes are incredible - top tier hype (motivating) music.

1. Game doesn't open, looks for a fix
2. Issue affecting everyone playing on a specific windows 10 version or above, you have to download a hex editor and edit the game's exe to run the game
3. Hex editor doesn't work, look up possible reasons why
4. You have to download an older version of the game's exe with steam's console, replace the up to date one and edit the old one with the hex editor
5. Game gets stuck in 1080p, cant switch to 1440p ingame
6. Find out you have to use different hex values for 1440p
7. Game doesn't open again after using the new hex values
8. Tries again with 1080p hex values, game opens to the menu but crashes when starting a new game

You need a computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, cyber security and astrophysics degree to even open the game. Just play something else

On the surface seems like a dull stealth game where you throw rocks to distract dumb guards and wait for them to patrol - it does have a lot of that. This isn't usually a genre that appeals to me but it managed to keep me engaged all the way through with story, environments, and characters that are all such high quality you won't mind the slow gameplay.

My only real gripe with the game is that the main villain (who doesn't have much screentime) is cartoonishly evil, a stark contrast to the rest of the game which is fairly gritty and realistic aside from some fantasy elements. The villains are more of a driving force in the story rather than the main focus, so this downside doesn't take away from the story imo.

Miyazaki's done it again 😁

10/10 character customization

10/10 weapon variety

The story and lore are cool but hard to follow. They provide more dialogue and character interaction than other FromSoft games, though.

Multiple routes and endings make repeat playthroughs worthwhile, with only a few missions being stupidly hard unless you have the right gear.

Combat is fun but can be a button-mash fest as you spam all weapons constantly against certain types of enemies, without much thought to dodging. The fights that do force you to learn are all fun and rewarding, and there are plenty of them.

Visual effects can be a bit much at times, as your screen can get covered with blue lasers and explosions, leaving you unable to see anything other than the HUD. However, for the majority of the game, all weapon effects look incredible.

Maps are good but are recycled a lot. You'll find that many missions use the same levels you've already done, but this time you're starting at the end and going to the beginning. It doesn't take away from the enjoyment, but it would have been nice to see original levels instead.

One of the best stories I've experienced in a game, although the beginning is tortuously slow-paced, and you're introduced to 20 characters all at once and hear about their life stories while slowly trotting around a snowy mountain doing nothing.

When something is happening, it's always exciting or intriguing (or both). There's a good mix of serious grittiness and charming/funny dialogue throughout. Regardless of how important a character is to the story, there's never a drop in quality.

The gunplay is fun but feels clunky at times due to the way recoil recovery works. You'll feel both like a real gunslinger and a complete bot during your playthrough.

The biggest gripe I have is the slowness of traveling around at the same pace Hector Salamanca would. The game forces you to go slow on long journeys, and you'll notice that when you're on a horse, you have to fight the controls as if you're driving a car and someone else is grabbing the wheel for a laugh and crashing you into a pole.

There's a lot of drawn-out dialogue at the beginning of missions where you're riding a horse to go somewhere, listening to two characters have banter that could easily be in a cutscene, rather than making you spam the sprint button to go at a reasonable speed constantly for unbearably long journeys.

Overall, it's an amazing game; I just wish they'd cut back on the simulator-esque mechanics that feel like they kill the pacing.

Titanfalll 2 has the best story I've ever experienced from an FPS, the relationship between the Player's character and his Titan is one that's fun to witness, made sweeter with occasional dialogue choices that really amplify their personalities. The overall arc is short, but doesn't feel short as the delivery of the story is perfect. The villains don't have a whole lot of depth, but they're not super important individually in the overall narrative and fit their purpose well. There are some allied side characters as well, but again their background and personality aren't integrated into the main story really.

There's two types of combat in the game, on foot and piloting your Titan. You'll spend most of your time on foot and that's the more fun part, but the Titan combat is also fun in it's own right with the different loadouts you can switch between on the fly.

The on-foot gameplay is extremely fast paced and fluid, you never have to stop and all the different movement mechanics of wall running, sliding etc are extremely easy to implement as you're playing both in and out of combat. If you're into fast paced movement in games, or snappy shooters you'll love this.

This game's two sins are that it's short, and that it set itself up for a sequel that we'd all love but are likely never going to get.
