Save your money.

I know that this game is old and not particularly noteworthy. I'm sure, at the time it was released, it was interesting and possibly somewhat innovative. What wasn't clear back then was that this is a very poor console port.

From memory, the keyboard and mouse input was atrocious and the graphics always rendered in this 'horrid-for-modern-PC' blur that would probably have gone unnoticed were it the era of CRT monitors. But it wasn't.

Several years have passed since I bought, and first played, this game. I had high hopes for it. Zombie survival with base building elements and working within a community; not just some lone ranger Godhero nonsense. Unfortunately, having reinstalled the game, I had to really work to try and enjoy it.

There's so many minor things riddled through the game that make it not worth your money. Not even on sale. Just don't.

Zombie 'hordes' that consist of about 8 zombies, 2 of which which will always find a way to cling to your car. If you reverse and try to drive forward, over the top of a zombie, your car will perform a slow and physics-bending backflip (catapulting you from the driver's side in the process), AI path-finding that doesn't quite find paths and inconsistent crashes that follow no rhyme or reason.

Not to mention the fact that, as a member of a community of survivors, I can get tired, hurt, or even die but still have the option to switch out to another playable survivor so long as I have a suitable level of rapport built up with them. However... no matter who I decide to play as I will invariably be thrust into the fore to "help find a friend in trouble" or "go search for a feral zed" or "help one of our runners in a jam". It doesn't matter how much effort you put in to swat these tasks down - NOBODY ELSE WILL PICK 'EM UP!

The straw that broke the camel's back was being invited to "Walk with me" as the AI froze in place.

I'm sure the game was a combination of a teams' hopes and dreams and that the developers had high hopes for their product, but the more I tried to work through the issues the more I realised that game I was playing is broken. It apparently has a broken sequel with, as of writing, a third broken instalment in the works. The damage is done.

Just save your money.

A quick play through can rapidly turn into a mammoth time-sink.

I bought the original a while back, and realised that there was DLC available which I have also purchased.
The game itself is a basic premise; get from A to B with everyone in your party alive. There are random events that'll make this more difficult and some skill-based elements (shooting, movement, etc.) that will determine the outcomes.

It works well as an addition to traditional game nights. Cast it to your TV and name the characters after those present and if you've been eliminated from your tabletop game, you can have fun calling out for guidance on decisions.

Well worth the price for the hours of replayability, Endless Mode and skull challenges.

Excellent. Good concept, well executed, looks great. The downside? It's just a bit too short. The argument that knocks the downside out of the park: you didn't pay anything.

POSTAL 2 was, and is, an affront to the senses and most absolutely a product of its time.
Tasteless, crass, humour. Ultraviolence by the shedload with enough urine, vomit and blood to make a Brazilian orphanage look like a wonderous haven of happiness, POSTAL 2 was blasted from the beginning as nothing more than offensive for the sake of being offensive. Ignore the critics, though, because it's great fun.

There are some minor technical complaints but I've yet to encounter a single one that's unsolvable without the help of the community. If you missed it back in 2003 then it's well worth the money to support a developer like RWS.

Terrifying isolationalist Hell. Like Doom meets the original GTA; Teleglitch delivers a combination of sci-fi terror with an adrenaline packed dose of run-and-gun action. Aid your survival by crafting new and more brutal weapons on the fly in order to maintain an edge over your enemies and escape the horrors of Medusa 1-C.

As much as I love the Max Payne franchise, and as much as Max Payne 3 does not detract from that love, I can't help but feel like a parent whose thirty-something offspring won't just ♥♥♥♥ off and move out.

I want to love it for what it is but at the same time it's a real nuisance; the gameplay, the story, the music, the Payneful quips and wisecracks are all masterfully done. The cutscenes however... they are not. I've yet to speak to anyone whose played through Max Payne 3 and not been irritated in some fashion by the fact cutscenes are forced upon you with no real means of skipping ahead until the "loading process" has finalised.

For some, a minor issue. For others, a real buzzkill on the replayability factor.

All that aside, though, Max Payne 3 delivers an interesting storyline and setting with satisfying over-the-top, Hong Kong action cinema style gunplay.

Unsure how I managed to overlook Metro 2033 for so long. Bought, played, completed and shelved.

Having picked it back up at the start of 2014 it's still a fun, well presented, post-apocalyptic story set in the wastes of Russia. A suitable comparison might be if the Fallout franchise got together with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise on a train and they had an illegitimate child who then drank heavily from an early age.

There are a few minor issues which hamper the enjoyability; enemies, the mutants more so, do some ridiculous things during combat, clipping and movement problems in some levels as well as the curse of poorly acted Russian accents with dialogue that sometimes puncuates a scene in all the wrong places. Fortunately, nothing planet shattering that ruins the game...

Definitely recommended if you're a fan of the FPS genre.

If your idea of a good drinking game is reciting the alphabet backwards or memorising all 50 states (by chronological order of accepted statehood) then you can leap in a fire and take this thing with you...
