It's enjoyable.
Still buggy, but not the trainwreck it was at launch.
PROS:
- huge sandbox
- a tutorial built right into playing the game (you wake up, you find a ship, you repair it, you keep building up till you get a feel for the game and begin to stretch your wings)
- RNG for locations and ships
- good player support for
CONS:
- save mechanism is limited (exit your ship, save point, some means of timed autosave) - might go an hour without a save
- bugs (screen goes black but still playing and the menus work) - this sucks because you can't save until you get to a save point
- control mechanism can't be properly customized (can't change what forward and back are for Exocraft, doesn't tell you which controls will interfere with each other)
- I can imagine it might get repetitive at some point
- I imagine it might be too grindy for some

Early Access Review
Has become one of my all-time favorite games. Good balance of base building, exploration, and combat. Others may complain but I like the biome-based pseudo-level locking - subsequent biomes are harder without first mastering the one before it. Randome world generation is fun - lots of replay-ability. Solo-play ability to pause the game (yay) and the movements and gameplay are good. Still 2 more biomes to be developed and others only recently were released, along with gameplay / crafting updates every few months keep the game fresh. A true keeper.

I was worried this game would be like Fallout or Far Cry. I held off buying it. When I did play it, it quickly overwhelmed my senses. This game made a virus outbreak in New York feel real. The environment was sensational: cold, dark, uninviting. The controls felt natural and I quickly became a skilled marksman using cover to my advantage. As the story progressed, I was at first confused at all the details. Then those details started coming together to show a story where all the strings meet together in a beautiful weave. Careful level design leaves the player sitting comfortably at high level just as the story comes to a close. Then the game opens up with challenges and new areas. Well done. I am impressed.

I used to play this when it was first released. Been away a while and now, trying to come back I see it requires some software called Arc to be installed to play, another download app. Uninstalling - shame, this game was pretty good. Before Arc I would recommend. Now ... sorry, can't recommend it.

4/5 - not as great as I was led to believe, but still quite good. It has a bit of a learning curve, but at least the keymap is simple. It has a mix of experience/skilltree building vs first person shooter. The mission goals could be better detailed.

Recommended. 4 / 5. Great gameplay mechanics, Reminds me of Borderlands, but more story based and better atmosphere. Only thing that would improve this would be better graphics.

9/10 One of the best FPS ever. At least in multiplayer. Needs bigger maps and more varied weapons and better skill ladders though.

10/10 Wow. So addictively fun. I can't stop playing. I played 20 games so far and still haven't beaten the final mothership on Easy. I haven't even tried Normal difficulty yet!

10/10 Nothing scarier than being alone and not being able to find the other players. One mechanic this got right was spawning creatures wherever you aren't looking. That makes it tense!

1/10 Ugh. I can't stand this game. Suffered playing it for 60 minutes and then threw in the towel. It's so consolized it made me sick. Plays more like a Build-Your-Own-Adventure book than a video game. Yuck. If I could return it I would. Best I can do is uninstall. Luckily I bought it on 75% off sale.
