Man! This game looked really cool, but playing just a few hours of it actually blew my mind, and despite my high expectations, I'm very positively surprised.

The setting and overall atmosphere is just gorgeous. Anything from graphics to sound design is spot on and makes it incredibly immersive and intense.

The gameplay is varied enough to continue to be fun and consistent enough for you to get satisfaction from improvement.
The concept of hiring and losing hunters ensures that each game feels important and intense, and makes your successes feel so much better, all the while not being too brutal and frustrating when things don't go as planned.

Progression feels rewarding and satisfying by being vast and relatively quick and all the customization outside of each game is just great overall.

Matchmaking is where I feel like there's definitely room for improvement. Overall, my experiences are predominantly good and seem somewhat consistently fair, but once every third game or so you just get absolutely wrecked by some nerd who's much much higher skill than you and just camping somewhere killing off all the noobs. This also makes playing solo the worst experience I've had in a very long time.
There appears to be some form of SBMM, but from what I understand, players above a certain level can opt out of this, and still end up in your matches even though the skill-gap is massive, and that's just so unbelievably stupid. This alone has had me reconsider if the game is even worth playing despite the overwhelming amount of positive aspects to the game. And on top of this, I hear that once you start climbing the ranks, you'll encounter a great deal of cheaters which honestly sound quite horrible - that reason alone was enough for me to stop playing Warzone for instance.

Still highly recommend it though; if you can accept that once in a while you'll get absolutely railed by someone way better than you who loves feeling powerful and ruins the game for the noobs or someone who's just cheating, then it's an absolutely incredible game!

Good game if you like strategy, simulation and city-building in a Jurassic setting.

I played the first game as well, and this is not a big leap from that one in any regard. It does however feel slightly more polished and has some neat features that makes going back to the first one feel awful.
If you liked the first game, you'll like this too, but don't expect it to knock you out of your seat; it's mostly more of the same but ever so slightly better. If you never played any of them, I'd go for this one rather than the first game, unless you really want more content to play through.

Graphics and sound design is great, although not perfectly optimised (especially with DLSS).
I've crashed a few times despite playing on high-end hardware, but autosaving means it's just a slight inconvenience.

The story is decent but quite weak and should not be the primary reason for playing this.

It's not perfect and has its flaws, but overall I'd recommend it!

Early Access Review
This is early access done right!

I don't write reviews often, but when I do, it's because something is extraordinary, and Valheim is nothing less than that.

I went into this very sceptical. My friend almost had to force me to try it out, because it just looked like another dumb, limited and janky early access survival game. During the first hour or so of playing, I was even considering refunding because I was so opinionated and biased to begin with, that it all seemed to confirm my expectations.
Clearly, I got over this and now, after 50+ hours of playing, I want to give it my honest and fair opinion.

This game is just great.
It has quickly become one of my favourite games in years and it's still in early access! There's so much to it already, that even after 50 hours of game time (admittedly not speedrunning in any way), my friend and I are still not done progressing (probably getting close though to be fair). You get so much value for your money, and I also can't stress enough how stable and refined it is for an early access game, although it needs to be said that there are some slight performance issues when playing multiple people on the same server with big bases and extensive terraforming - not enough to dissuade me from playing though and clearly something the developers are actively working on improving.
Additionally, the AI and overall engine could do with some minor tweaks here and there, as it can become slightly frustrating at times, but again not something that keeps me from enjoying it overall.

While it did take me an hour or two to get hooked, I choose to blame that on my ignorant bias, and won't blame the game for that. However, regardless of that, you get sucked into this incredible world very fast, and because there's so much to do, it quickly becomes a world that you constantly want to explore and just be immersed in. Numerous times I've decided to have a little break after a few hours of playing, and then immediately after 5 minutes start missing the world and decide to lock back in - I'm not even kidding or exaggerating.

I could go on and on about all the details of this game that make it what it is, but ultimately, it's the combination of these that as a whole make a great game that is so fun, immersive and extensive.

Taken into account the fact that this is an early access game, I would personally like to see its overall review score close to 98% - up there with games like Terraria. As a fully fledged game, I would be more conservative, but that's the thing; it's not a fully fledged game yet. I can't wait to see what this game will evolve to become.

Thank you for putting hope back in the game industry. I will naturally recommend this to everyone I speak with for while as it is the only thing on my mind at the moment. Well done!

Most of the recent negative feedback is due to some slight balance changes, that basically only affect really experienced players, and is completely irrelevant to the majority of players, including new ones.

I think it's a really great game, that has a few minor annoyances and/or lack of features, but more than makes up for it in its extremely satisfying gameplay and overall style (graphics, sound, UI, etc.).

At the time of writing this, I have about 50 hours played, and I'm still very much amazed by the satisfaction in the gameplay; the graphics, animations, sound and overall feel when in combat, makes the inevitable repetitiveness exciting every time and it's just so damn satisfying to kill enemies in this game.

It's basically a L4D game mixed with the character progression from Diablo set in the Warhammer universe - just MUCH better than L4D in my opinion.

Early Access Review
Finally a game of the Battle Royal concept that is genuinely good.
Everything just feels really polished, smooth and well balanced (for an early access, online multiplayer game). The developers actually seem to listen to the community and act upon request therefrom.
Very few bugs and/or glitches, and a great balance of anything from spawnrates and itemstats to gamepace (through stuff like the decreasing size of playarea and general size of map in relation to the amount of players) and time to get into a new game.
It's satisfying and exciting without ever getting tedeous, and only occasionally a bit frustrating - but that's only because I'm fairly competitive in games likes these, and getting #2 can induce a slight form of frustration, eventhough it is only due to my own competences - or rather lack thereof..

The only major thing I feel like this game needs, is better optimization, and I feel like that is definitely something that will be addressed in future updates as it is still in early access. I have a 1080ti with a similar level to the rest of my PC specs, so I run it on Ultra graphics with an absolute minimum of 60fps, however I rarely reach over 100 and feel like that should be the case for a game like this in 2017 (granted the stuff I mentioned above; I am fully aware of the game still being in early access, and just mention this in case people are wondering if they should get it within the near future).

Also, the price is less than half of AAA titles, which I feel is more than reasonable!

Considering the fact that you have come here and read so far into a random review of the game, I recommend you try it out for a match or two, and if you don't like it, you can always return it within 2 hours(?) via Steam for a full refund.

9.5/10 from me!

Brilliant game! Played since alpha 11 or so, and it's still one of my favourite games. Even though I haven't actually played it in a while, I've put a good amount of hours into it, and ended up with prisons that my high end computer had trouble running (in late alpha; before the major optimizations the game has been blessed with lately).
There is SO much to do, and especially if you have gangs and random events on, you'll never get bored. And at the same time eventhing is really intuitive, and just generally so brilliantly coded - the AI is much more complex and interesting than you'd think. I've been following their Youtube videos back in alpha, to learn about the new features in every update and the developers of the game has just done such an incredible job; for instance, they did a 45 minute long video just explaining their thoughts behind the execution feature.
If you like these kind of simulation-management-building games with the potential of a ton of action, I highly recommend this game!
Another early-access success!
10/10.

Early Access Review
Surprisingly good!
I bought this game with fairly low expectations; All these new early access-survival-crafting-PvP games seem buggy, half-finished and feature-lagging. They were all the same games to me. The graphics are decent but so poorly optimized that even a good mid-high end PC suffers massive FPS drops, the gameplay becomes repetitive and boring after a few hours and combat is more or less off the table as glitches and lag makes it nearly impossible to enjoy.
Even though the game has been out a few years now, I recently began to hear positive things about Rust in particular, and suddenly started seeing friends playing it. So why not give it a go - to at least give the old preconceptions a solid test. Luckily Steam offers a full refund within two weeks of the purchase and as long as you haven't played the game for more than 2 hours, so why the hell not try it out?

Expecting to play it for two hours to then return it, I booted it up, found a somewhat random official server with a decent ping and then began to mess around with the graphics settings for an hour trying to optimize it as much as humanly possible. I then played it... And played... And played... And suddenly 6 hours had gone by - eliminating my chance of a potential refund. Still with a hint of scepticism and a pinch of regret I then decided to find a proper server to start on for real (wasn't to happy about the one I initially found). I then stumbled upon a guy on the Steam forums who sought players for his new modded server. He seemed pretty cool and genuinely quite friendly, so I gave it a go.

Fast forward 2,5 weeks (and 92 hours of game time): I am now an admin on this server that has gone from 2 players to about 50 since I joined - and I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ loving it! The game is fine, and has somewhat busted my negative assumptions about it, but what really keeps me going is the awesome community we have managed to establish.
I log on for the gameplay but I stay for the social aspect.

I only just started playing a few weeks ago - I have no idea how the game was before then, but NOW it runs smoothly on my 3 year old mid-high end PC. Combat works - not too laggy or glitchy. Gameplay is fairly varied and rewarding. The attention to detail is impressive considering the scale of the game. The game is generally quite intuitive (especially crafting and building) yet elaborate. And the developers seem active and occasionally adds some new features and/or bugfixes - even within the short period of time I have played.

I really like it. And granted my low expectations from the start, I'm very pleasantly surprised about how good it actually is. I haven't really tried any other games that shares the same genres as this, but one thing I can say is:

I definitely recommend Rust. 8/10

Early Access Review
I've played this game for at least 100 hours in early access, and I' ve always thought it was absolutely brilliant. Now it's finally been greenlit and added major features like multiplayer and end-game content along with it's Steam release, and that's on top of the countless other amazing feature-rich and gamechanging updates. If you like base-building, strategy, sandbox, management, simulation, survival, crafting, combat, open-world, sci-fi and/or casual games - this game is for you. Man oh man, it's satisfying as hell creating, managing and defending a massive and elaborate factory. It's intuitive yet elaborate and generally just so damn well coded. This game is at the time of writing this review literally THE highest rated game on Steam (above Portal and Portal 2!) - and it deserves it more than any other game in the world right now. 10/10!
